Alcoholic Drinks

London, November 30, 2009: Alcohol is often cited as a recession-proof market. While unfavorable currency rates and the global consumer credit crunch contributed to a temporary dip in the volume of sales, consumption has been steadily on the increase in the last several months, albeit in new ways and throwing up new market trends. For instance, English sparkling wines is one of the biggest success stories of 2009, producers and retailers say, enjoying record sales as their appeal has grown on the back of the recession. Further, results posted by major brewers in the last quarter show the global beer market is riding out the tail-end of the financial crisis well with global beer consumption set to rise by 3.5% by 2015.

The interest in premium, and therefore expensive, products has probably never been higher, especially in developing markets where they are seen as aspirational purchases. So while the traditional premium markets such as Europe and the US continue to be stable, volume sales are increasing in developing markets such as Asia, notably China and India, Latin America and Eastern Europe; other new and developing markets include Kenya and Mexico. In the mature markets, while high-end buyers are opting for a value over volume strategy, mid-range consumers are choosing value for money by buying drinks from New Zealand, South Africa and Chile than those from the euro area.

These market trends only go to show that the learning from the global economic downturn is making companies adopt an increasingly clever and ingenious approach to all aspects of business. "Now, more than ever, it is vital companies have direct access to the senior executives who take the final decision on vendor selection and the ultimate sign off on all budgets. But reaching the decision maker is costly, time-consuming and hard to achieve. Now this is where the Drink World Congress assists business by guaranteeing targeted, face-to-face business meetings with people that count," says Sonja Merchant, Director, Drink World Congress.

  3. QUESTION:
    Alcoholic Drinks?
    Ok I am trying to get ideas for what we should drink for my cousin's 25th birthday. Her birthday is January 1st but her and I and some friends are gonna drink on the 31st and the 1st and I was wondering what kinda drinks you all would recommend for us to drink. She drinks Amaretto Sours and I am used to drinking beer but I want her and I to try new alcoholic drinks and I need some info on what drinks you all like or what you think we should try. I just want to get some ideas so we can make them ourselves or go to a bar and have them make them for us but I want her and I to get totally wasted so make sure you leave some good ideas for us to drink. THANKS!!!!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
      Fun things to make yourself are:
      Jungle Juice! Get a bunch of different fruits and chop them up, watermelon, kiwi, grapes, honeydew, almost anyThing will work! Then just add vodka! A good 5th or two of Bacardi or absolute or even everclear will do the job! Let it sit over night in a big cooler. You have a yummy drink and you can eat the fruit. This is great for house parties.

      Blended drinks:
      All you need is different juices or mixes(you can buy sweet and sour or margarita mixes in almost every store) then just get your blender going.You'll need liquor of course, About 2 oz per drink is good then just add about 4 oz of mix and ice. Blend! I recommend a good vodka or tequila to blend up, they are great with almost any mixer.

      At the bar:
      Try an Adios Mother F'er or Tokyo Tea. They are great spin off's of Long Island Iced Teas.
      An even sweeter drink is Liquid Cocain.

      Great Shots:
      Washington Apples
      Jager Bombs
      Red Headed Sluts. . .

  4. QUESTION:
    How many alcoholic drinks do you limit yourself to when you just start dating someone?
    I'm not tiny and I am a bit overweight. I don't want to drink too much. Does it look wrong to have three alcoholic drinks on a second date? Women: do you usually get slightly tipsy from three drinks? I drink super fast & love alcohol, but mainly on dates, to loosen up, but not to get drunk, just for a buzz. Thx.

    • ANSWER:
      It depends.

      If i am driving - no alcohol at all.

      But otherwise, i limit myself to a maximum of 2, and only if the date also has a similar drink.

      btw - a woman who only drinks on dates gives off a wrong signal.
      Seems that she needs a confidence booster all the time - not really someone that would inspire trust for me.

  5. QUESTION:
    What non alcoholic drinks go good with cigars?
    I can hardly find good drinks to go with cigars.
    As most of you know, that's the second biggest factor for enjoyment.
    However, I am too young to legally drink alcoholic beverages.
    Anyone got any tips for some non-alcoholic beverage that won't ruin my stick?

    • ANSWER:
      There are several non-alcoholic options for you, but it really depends on the kind of cigar you're smoking.

      Just some ideas: Turkish coffee, hot tea, ice tonic water with lime, non-alcoholic wines, light fruit juice (mineral water with a bit of juice squeezed directly from an orange or lemon).

      Like I said, it really does depend on the kind of cigar you're smoking. Sometimes the best is even just ice water, believe it or not. Check out the link I posted as my source. It will help you pair up your cigar and a good non-alcoholic beverage!

      Good luck!

  6. QUESTION:
    Is the consumption of alcoholic drinks legal in cooking or travel shows?
    Is the consumption of alcoholic drinks legal in cooking or travel shows. The Travel Channel and Food Network shows (such as Racheal Ray's a Day) show the hosts drinking. Are they really drinking or are they drinking apple juice and water?]

    I was always under the impression that they are drinking real alcohol because the purpose of them being there is to tell us about the food and drink of certain places.

    It's the same with reality shows correct?

    • ANSWER:
      Why would it be illegal? Provided the show's hosts are old enough to drink, they should be allowed to do so whether they are being filmed or not.

      It's possible that aren't actually drinking though, because often they'll need to do several takes, and if they keep drinking the wine in every take, they might end up to drunk to do the next scene!

  7. QUESTION:
    What alcoholic drinks do British people typically drink?
    I know beer is rather popular in the UK (as here in the US), but any specific brands? And what kinds of liquor and other alcoholic drinks are popular in England?

    • ANSWER:
      New UK drinking habits TrendUK

      What we drink is always of interest to people in the UK. Whether it be alcoholic or otherwise we want to find out about new drinks, respond to new fashions and trends, and try out anything that might be good for us as we attempt to have healthier lifestyles!

      Juicy trend
      Very much in fashion at the moment are smoothies and juices. In any supermarket you can find rows of smoothies and many different kinds of fruit juices to tempt your palate. Bookshops are full of books devoted to ‘super juices’ that will ‘turbo-charge your life in just 14 days’ and ‘the best 50 smoothies’, and juicers dominate the sales of kitchen gadgets.

      Although the trend towards juices and smoothies started in the health conscious 1990s it seems to have reached a saturation point in the last couple of years. This is particularly true of the availability of some of the more exotic juices such as kiwi and passion fruit which now seem to outnumber the bog-standard orange and apple juices.

      How much is too much?
      However, it seems as if the British are getting a bit too carried away with their juices thinking that just by drinking them we are magically answering all our unhealthy lifestyle problems. Figures published in January showed that Britain consumes 2.2 billion litres of juice drinks a year – this is about 36 litres for every man, woman and child!

      Beer less fattening than wine!
      It’s not just fruit juices that are promoted as being a reasonably healthy thing to drink though. For those of us who like a pint or two down the pub there now comes the news that beer is less fattening than wine. Wine is usually a more popular drink for women than beer, perhaps because we think it has fewer calories than beer.

      The facts
      Just 14% of women drink beer in pubs compared to the 36% who drink wine. In the UK wine is fast becoming the choice drink among men and women along with fashionable cocktails. ‘It’s a trend I have noticed on nights out and I think it’s been helped along by ‘Happy Hour’ prices where bottles of wine are £5 or £6 so more affordable.’ Louise, Manchester.

      A new campaign called ‘Beautiful beer’ is trying to change this statistic by setting the record straight about the calorific content of beer in order to woo women drinkers. As a twenty something that likes to socialise, and who is also body conscious, anything to do with dieting, interests me. I don’t like depriving myself of things I like so the possibility that beer is lass fattening than wine is good news!

      Which drinks pile on the pounds?

      The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) have released the following figures to support their claims.
      Calories per 100ml
      Beer (4.6% alc): 41 calories
      Wine (12% alc): 77 calories
      Spirits: 250 calories
      Milk: 64 calories
      Orange juice: 42 calories
      Apple juice: 47 calories

      Lifestyle trends

      Whether it be smoothies or beer – or both – drinks are often sold to us as part of a healthy lifestyle we are meant to be aspiring to. However, both have other issues attached. Whether it be relying on smoothies to provide all the nutrients we should be getting from fruit and vegetables, or overindulging in the lifestyle attached to beer drinking which can affect what and how much you eat - think of all the take-aways consumed on Friday and Saturday nights!).

  8. QUESTION:
    What are some alcoholic drinks with little-to-no alcoholic taste?
    Hello there! What are some alcoholic drinks or punches that are relatively strong but don't taste of alcohol or have a very faint alcoholic taste? Preferably recipes that can be made in quantities of three or four drinks and aren't particularly weak the way most girly drinks are (for instance, amaretto sours, malibu and pineapple and other drinks made with weak liqueurs). The stronger, the better! Thank you kindly.

    • ANSWER:
      I've bartended for years. Frozen drinks are perfect for making a strong drink taste, well, not so strong.

      Frozen Daiquiris

      1 cup ice
      1 1/2 oz. rum - light, dark, OR 151 proof

      Pineapple Daiquiri: Omit the triple sec and add (4-6) 1" chunks of peeled pineapple.
      Melon Daiquiri: Omit the triple sec and add 1 oz. melon liqueur and (4-6) 1" chunks of peeled and seeded cantaloupe.
      Peach Daiquiri: Add 1 ripe peach, peeled and pitted.

      ~~~~~
      Margaritas
      1 1/4 oz. tequila
      1/2 oz. triple sec
      1/2 oz. lime juice
      1/3 cup sweet and sour mix
      -Strain into a salt-rimmed glass.
      -For a frozen margarita, pour all ingredients into a blender and puree. Pour into a salt-rimmed glass.
  9. QUESTION:
    what are some alcoholic drinks that actually taste good?
    I'm trying to find an alcoholic drink that will taste good to me, I'm 22 and have never been able to find anything alcoholic that I really liked the taste of, and whenever I go out with friends I'm usually the only one who's not really drinking (or drunk eventually), which kinda sucks sometimes. Can anyone recommend anything for me? I hate the taste of all carbonated drinks, I don't drink soda of any kind, I don't like the way it makes my mouth feel.
    • ANSWER:
      You may like an 'alcopop' such as Mike's Hard Lemonade or Smirnoff Ice.
  10. QUESTION:
    What alcoholic drinks besides kahlua taste good mixed with milk?
    Okay because i love kahlua and milk right. Well i was wondering if any other alcoholic drinks go well with milk. Do you think wine would? Sounds kind of nasty but i want to know if anyone has tried it. Thanks.
    • ANSWER:
      Bailies!!
      Delicious :P
  11. QUESTION:
    What alcoholic drinks should I bring to a bachelor party?
    I was asked to determine which alcoholic drinks/beverages to bring to a friend's bachelor party. I really don't know what I should bring. Can you please give me some suggestions. It would be reaaaally helpful. Thank you very very very very much.
    • ANSWER:
      You'll want to get good stuff or you will appear to be cheap.
      This means:
      A good bottle of whiskey. Try Bulleit Bourbon.
      A good bottle of gin. Tanqueray is good. So is Bombay Sapphire.
      A good bottle of vodka. Anything expensive. No plastic.
      Maybe some rum. Not as popular as the other three.
      A good tequila. I like Patron.
      Beer:
      You will need several varieties. I would recommend Guinness, Stella Artois, Newcastle, a few local microbrews and then the American crappy beers like Bud, Coors and so on.
      To go with all this liquor you will need the correct mixers, ingredients and glasses.
      For the above things you will need LOTS OF ICE, some tumbler glasses, pint glasses, some tall glasses, 10 lemons or so, 20 limes, make a lot of simple syrup (dissolve a bag of sugar into a a couple cups of sugar), orange juice, cranberry juice, tomato juice, worchestshire sauce, tabasco sauce, celery (those last three are for bloody marys), a couple large bottles of coca cola, olives, vermouth, soda water, tonic water, a bottle of Cointreau, another Triple Sec, vermouth and a few other liqueurs, depending on what drinks you like. I don't know if you guys like margaritas. If you do, I prefer using lime juice, but if not get some mix.
      I'm sure you've thought of it, but a couple boxes of cigars would be great too. I love Padron cigars.
      Good luck, and have fun.
      Some people above have said wine, but I don't think it will fit with a bachelor party. Unless you have some snooty friends, you won't need any. Chances are if you have to ask this question to begin with, you wont need any wine.
  12. QUESTION:
    What are the best alcoholic drinks for allergy?
    I am allergic to cold drinks. Every time I drink a cold beverage with ice in it, my chest gets congested and I cough a lot. Which alcoholic drinks would suit me?
    • ANSWER:
      You are NOT allergic to cold drinks. If you don't like drinks with ice in them I'd have thought the answer was obvious
  13. QUESTION:
    What persuades you to drink non alcoholic drinks at home? Or what would persuade you?
    Given the vast array of alcopops, beers, spirits etc, what makes you buy non alcoholic drinks like Shloer and Appletiser? Obviously it might be because you don't want to be drinking alcohol, but what other reasons is it? What makes such drinks so appealing?
    • ANSWER:
      I don't drink nonalcoholic drinks like that because they taste like crap, and they are full of sugar (or cancerogenous matter, if they are sugar free).They are anything but appealing
      I drink lots of coffee, tea, a cup or so of milk, juice once in a while, and energy drink or Pepsi once in a blue moon. I drink coffee because I need it to survive,herbal tea to relax me, juice because it tastes good, especially when it's hot outside, energy drinks to stay awake, and Pepsi when we're grilling hamburgers because it just tastes right with fresh hamburgers.
  14. QUESTION:
    What are some alcoholic drinks to have a party that u can make yourself?
    I'm having a party in a week and i'am looking for a few alcoholic drinks to have at the party. There are going to be over 50 people so i need s few good drinks to have. Thanks for your help!
    • ANSWER:
      1 oz Parrot Bay coconut rum over ice in tall glass with pineapple juice - a light version of a pina colada. Also, "Pink Mafia" - 1 oz bacardi apple rum, 1 oz cranberry juice and 2 oz pink lemonade over ice.
  15. QUESTION:
    Why do sugary alcoholic drinks make my heart hurt?
    Whenever I drink a sugary alcoholic drink, my heart will start to hurt with in five minutes. My heart starts to beat faster and there is a strong pain. This can last for a few hours depending on how much of the drink I have consumed. It seems to go away after I have peed a few times. Drinks that do this to me are things like Mike's hard lemon aid and Smirnoff. I am fine with drinks like beer and liquor. I am going to go to the doctor soon, but I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as I have. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
    • ANSWER:
      Alcohol is a stimulant as well as a depressant so it will speed up your heart rate. This could be dangerous so I would ask a doctor about it.
  16. QUESTION:
    If an alcoholic drinks 6 beers in 1 hour and a someone who rarely drinks does the same?
    If an alcoholic drinks 6 beers in 1 hour and a someone who rarely drinks does the same. They weigh the same and are both males. They also ate the same food and same amount. Will they have the same BAC level why or why not?
    It is more dangerous for the person who never drinks?
    • ANSWER:
      Assuming both people are of equal weight... the alcoholic will probably have a higher BAC for two reasons. He would have alcohol in his system already. AND his weakened system is not able to metabolize alcohol as fast as a normal healthy body. However...because his tolerance levels are higher he won't show the effects of the alcohol as bad as the novice drinker. It is equally dangerous to both drinkers to overindulge in drinking. The alcoholic for the same reasons mentioned above. His weakened health and already high alcohol levels make him a candidate for stroke and possible heart attack if not alcohol poisoning. The novice drinker may suffer the same fate due to the shock on his body's system.
      Although...I doubt a six pack is enough to pose a threat.
  17. QUESTION:
    Which alcoholic drinks are drunk before a meal and which after?
    In my family, people usually drink a small glass of plum brandy before lunch and a glass of wine after. What about all the other common alcoholic drinks such as whiskey, beer, liqueur, vodka etc? What's the etiquette for them?
    • ANSWER:
      If you want to go with the traditional...if there is a cocktail period before dinner like at a wedding then any kind of cocktail is fine.
      Then there are before dinner aperitifs like sherry or ouzo. There are literally hundreds of different kinds of aperitifs because it's a very common custom all over the world to have them and just about every country has at least one that they call their own.
      An aperitif is normally served with something small like olives, cheese, etc and they are never served on the rocks.
      At formal dinners, wine is usually drunk with the meal. And if you want to get really formal, if you go to the Riedel website, the number of glasses they have for each individual type of drink is mind boggling.
      The traditional after dinner drink is a digestif, also never serves on the rocks...Limoncello is used for this in Italy, but other common digestifs are cognacs, armagnacs, fine whiskeys, fortified wine like port or madeira. Plum wine is served in Japanese restaurants as a digestif.
      These are really only used at very formal dinners though. For non-formal dinners, you just have whatever you want.
  18. QUESTION:
    What are some non-alcoholic drinks that you can serve in a teenage party?
    What are some non-alcoholic drinks that you can serve in a teenage party and how do you make them ? Also how do you make a non-alcoholic pina colada ?
    • ANSWER:
      Go to the store and buy the pre-made mixes that do not contain any alcohol. Blend them up and serve with garnishments and nice glasses. Set the mood like a nightclub setting and the kids will love it. Just be sure to check that the pre-made mix is non-alcohol, some may come with alcohol in them.
  19. QUESTION:
    Why are some alcoholic drinks illegal and others legal?
    Many alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine are legal but why are others, for example, moonshine and home brew illegal? Is it because they are too strong?
    • ANSWER:
      Moonshine is illegal because the makers of it don't pay taxes on it. Homebrew is perfectly legal and I in fact have a stout brewing at home right now.
      If the makers of moonshine got a license and paid taxes it wouldn't be illegal. There are a few brands of moonshine out actually. My brother got one for my dad last Christmas... it even came in a mason jar.
      EDIT:
      Liquor laws are controlled by local/state government in the US and there are some states that limit the alcohol content that can be sold in that state. I think, and admittedly I may be wrong, it is Mississippi prohibits beer from being of 3.5%ABV... Or is it one of the Carolina.
  20. QUESTION:
    i know that alcoholic drinks like rum and brandy can be used in baking cakes.but can other liquor like spirit and irish cream be used in baking cakes (and other things)? if yes could you please show me where i can get such recipes.
    • ANSWER:
      I've used cream de cacao, kalhua, brandy, rum...all kinds of things in different dishes - kinda just adding them as the idea allows.
      Here...I found these for you...you do kinda have to pick out the dessert or baked ones...
  21. QUESTION:
    What alcoholic drinks and other products are made from maple syrup?
  22. QUESTION:
    What are some alcoholic drinks you recommend?
    1. What are some alcoholic drinks that don't taste like alochol that i can get at a bar? Approx how many of these "girly" drinks will it take for me to get drunk?
    2. What are some drinks that are hard liquor and how many shots would i need to take to get drunk? ( its my first time and i'm 5' 1" and 100 pounds.
    Thanks!
    • ANSWER:
      Go with a vodka martini like a cosmopolitan or a peach martini if all that fails vodka and pineapple juice are great and all bars have that. Also ask the bar tender what their specialty drink is or what the that bar is know for making. Shots I stay away from shots they aren't worth it over priced and well you don't stop at one and when they finally hit your system its not a good time. As for how many since you are petite I say you stick with two drinks once you finished your second drink wait about an hour maybe more if you feel OK then have another. Also have plenty of water not to sober up but to help prevent a hang over drink 8oz of watter for every alcoholic drink you have. oh and don't drink and drive I know too many people with a DUI it sucks it ain't fun and it stays on your record for a real real long time it's so not worth it .
  23. QUESTION:
    Why are alcoholic drinks so expensive in restaurants?
    My friend and I went to TGIFridays last night and our drinks were .19 a piece! I had a mudslide and my friend had a frozen strawberry daiquiri. The drinks were not very big and there were no prices on the drink menu. We were shocked when we got the bill. A few years ago, I used to go to TGIFridays all the time and the same size mudslide was , and it wasn't during happy hour. Why are alcoholic drinks so expensive now?
    • ANSWER:
      I have been a restaurant GM for 13 years.
      The other answer on here is partially correct, however, the bigger culprit for higher beverage prices is the food cost.
      Typically, restaurants that offer alcohol earn a higher profit from their beverage sales than their food sales. So with food prices going up so much(flour has tripled in price) that gets reflected in the beverage cost instead of the food cost. Why is this? Why are there no prices on the beverage menu?
      Because the original allure of any restaurant is the food, in it impossible to be forever changing menu prices to reflect the increased food costs, whereas it is much easier to NOT list alcohol prices and just change them within their sales system....and not have to change the entire menu(more money).
      So to keep your food affordable, you pay more for drinks.
      Hope this helps!
  24. QUESTION:
    What are some sweet alcoholic drinks and how to say them in Italian?
    I'm going to Italy and I need to know some sweet alcoholic drinks that they drink in Italy
    how do you say strawberry daquiri in Italian? Do they serve it? What is appropriate to ask for?
    I don't drink wine, I'm just going clubbing with friends
    • ANSWER:
      When I think of Italy, I think of Amaretto and Limoncello.
      I'm not sure what the names of the drinks will be in Italian, but Amaretto tastes like almonds, and Limoncello is sweet and lemony without any bitterness. Depending on your tastes, I'm sure a bartender will be able to make you something fabulous with either of those liqueurs.
  25. QUESTION:
    How many alcoholic drinks does it take you to black out?
    I was wondering how many alcoholic drinks does it take you personally to black out (i.e. how good are you at drinking). I usually black out after about 14 to 17 drinks, but occasionally I will remember everything for 20+ drinks. I know everyone has a different tolerance for booze, I was just curious how the booze tolerance correlates to your susceptibility to blacking out. I can usually drink about 25 drinks in a night, but most of the time I don't remember the last 10 or so drinks.
    • ANSWER:
      It depends on your age. I know people that are 20-30 that can get 30 or more drinks in before passing out. However, when I am drinking with people that are 10-15 years old, they cant drink so much. Must have something to do with the amount of schooling completed.
    What are some alcoholic drinks I can consume that aren't so high in the calories?
    I tend to drink ones like midori or malibu and pineapple or midori splices or paradiso's, ruski's and sometimes cruisers and I know they are all really fattening. I don't particuarly like wine and I hate beer although I can drink goon and champagne is ok sometimes. Can anyone recommend any alcoholic drinks that are similar to the ones I drink that aren't as bad? And would an option such as diet coke and vodka not be as bad?
    Thanks
    • ANSWER:
      1. Cider - 14 calories per 100 milliliters
      It's green, smells like apples, and every bar sells it along with beer, so you will blend in.
      2. Too bad you hate whine. White wine has about 40 calories per milliliter, the lowest among alcoholic drinks.
      3. Then comes red whine, from 50 to 70 calories per milliliter, depending on the brand.
      I usually stick with cider in bar, clubs and so on, which serves beer, to blend.
      In social gatherings, stick with dry champagne, even if it's low mark, it has the less calories than anything else, and is fun to drink because of the gas.
      Ruski has syrups in, which makes them too high in calories.
  37. QUESTION:
    So I am trying to organise the most number of different cocktails I can, with a maximum of five different alcoholic drinks.
    • ANSWER:
      The standard "speed rack" which most bartenders pour from is....
      Vodka
      Gin
      Rum
      Tequila
      Triple Sec
      Southern Comfort
      Whiskey
      Scotch
      Sweet & Dry Vermouth.....If you have martini or manhattan drinkers
      Sloe Gin
      Kahlua
      Chambord or Razzmatazz (Much cheaper)
      This will get you far and accommodate a lot of guests. You should have back up vodka...you will use it the most. These are the mixers you should have...
      Orange Juice
      Pineapple Juice
      Cranberry Juice
      Sour Mix
      Marguarita Mix
      Coca Cola
      7up or Sprite
      These are the standard garnishes...
      Orange slices
      Lemon slices
      Lime slices
      Cherries
      Green Olives
      I know this is more then five but, if you are throwing a party assign bottles for guests to bring!
  40. QUESTION:
    Can I serve mixed alcoholic drinks/cocktails the day after making them?
    I'm planning on serving mixed alcoholic drinks at a party I'm hosting, but I will be unable to mix them as I go - can I premake them and store them in bottles/jugs over night?
    • ANSWER:
      It would certainly depend on the cocktails your making and most probably won't work. You certainly can't do it with any drink that contains any carbonated ingredient or cream and certainly not martinis. Why not stick with some basics, like screw drivers and bloody marys. You can pour the OJ into a pitcher and mix up a batch of bloody mary mix without the vodka the night before and let your guests add their own vodka. You could also purchase prepared mixes, like pina colada, margarita's etc. Have a friend act as bartender to mix the prepared mix, alcohol and ice in a blender or just put your ice in an ice bucket, put out the rest of the ingredients and allow your guests to prepare their own cocktails.
      My suggestions will not work, if you are having a lot of people, in which case I'd stick to wine and high balls e.g. rum & coke, rye and ginger ale or 7-up, scotch & soda or water and alcohol on the rocks. Again, leave the ice in an ice bucket and allow your guest to prepare their own drinks, Chances are someone will decide to act as bartender.
  44. QUESTION:
    Why is there real alcoholic drinks now that we have non-alcoholic ones that taste the exact same?
    We have near-bear and almost-coolers, etc etc, and there's a general concensus that drinking alcohol is bad, so why haven't they eradicated alcoholic drinks and completely replaced them with fake ones?
    I'm talking about why hasn't alcohol been made illegal because getting drunk is bad. If alcohol was purely meant to 'give you a buzz', they'd only have it in one kind of drink and they wouldn't flavour it. Getting drunk doesn't matter, it's the whole reason I proposed that alcoholic drinks should be replaced with non-alcoholic ones (as in drinks that taste the same and contain 0 alcohol).
Any ideas of unusual non alcoholic drinks to look out for or non alcoholic drinks which can be made from the usual ingredients of an English pub, may help to keep me sane. Any suggestions? Things to consider is I don't have a huge amount of money to spend and I also am not a expert at these things so the simpler the better. Thanks.
    • ANSWER:
      I suggest getting a weak liquor like Kahlua, Amaretto, and Midori. Kahlua with milk is really good... or you can make a mudslide.
      My favorite cocktail which does not have the taste of alcohol in it is the Grasshopper. The problem is you'll probably need to order the ingredients online, as supermarkets probably won't have Creme de Menthe and Creme de Cacao.
