Alcoholic Energy Drink

How to find an enjoyable, low-carb alcoholic drink is something on the minds of many. The recent popularity of low-carb diets put a new focus on carbohydrates in foods. In an effort to capitalize on this situation, dozens of books have been published touting everything from easy, low carb-recipes to how to find a good low-carb friend and live the low-carb lifestyle.

One area that causes concern for low-carb dieters is pressure and influences arising from social situations. A big part of any social occasion - and many other occasions - for many people is alcoholic beverages.

Do alcoholic drinks have many carbs? What sort of drinks should I avoid? Should I abandon drinking altogether? Is there such a thing as a low-carb alcoholic drink?

Fortunately, little sacrifice must be made for the sake of counting carbohydrates. There are enough options and alternatives to allow you to enjoy good beer and other alcoholic beverages. Of course, as with anything else, you just need to make smart choices that fit into your particular low-carb diet and lifestyle. This article should serve as a general guide with basic information about low-carb alcoholic drinks.

Folks who want to enjoy a nice, cold brew and still maintain a healthy diet have a good friend: low-carb beer. Despite what you might guess from witnessing certain new product launches and advertising campaigns, low-carb beer is nothing new. In fact, all light beers are low-carb; just recently have brewers started so vigorously publicizing that fact.

Many people, even those on weight-loss and low-carb diets, enjoy beer regularly. Beer, like most other beverages, contains no fat. Light beer, in particular, is low in calories and carbohydrates. New low-carb beers, capitalizing on the terminology of the day, have been put to market in response to the new dieting trend, and often contain even less carbohydrates than light beer.

When it comes to dieting and weight loss, the "beer belly" is often mentioned, but no such thing actually exists. Consuming too many calories and not exercising enough will cause excess fat to develop in any part of the body, determined mainly by gender and genetics; for the most part, beer is irrelevant.

Most doctors agree the keys to weight loss are moderate food and beverage intake and regular exercise. Whether you're on a low-carb, low-fat, low-calorie or some other type of diet, beer - especially low-carb beer - can be part of a healthy adult lifestyle.

Beyond beer, there are many more options for enjoyable low-carb alcoholic drinks. Wine is very low in carbohydrates; red wine runs at about two grams, and white wine has a little less than one gram. Straight alcohols are even better. Gin, vodka, brandy, whiskey, tequila, rum, bourbon - all of your favorites! - have no carbs.

Mixed drinks - drinks that contain alcohol and a "mixer" such as soda or juice - are where you'll find some carbs, though. The exact number, of course, will vary depending on what you mix the alcohol with. You should always use diet soda, and try your best to find low-carb alternatives to fruit juices.

Many liqueurs have relatively high amounts of carbohydrates, and should be consumed sparingly if you're watching your carb intake. Irish cream, amaretto, triple sec, cointreau and the like should be enjoyed at a minimum. The carb counts vary greatly. Bailey's Irish cream, for example, has about six grams of carbs; amaretto, one of the highest, has about 17.

As with anything else related to dieting, moderation and common sense are your best friends. Amaretto isn't the devil. It just has a lot of carbs, so make sure you aren't suddenly and accidentally carb-loading after two amaretto sours. You can still enjoy plenty low-carb alcoholic drinks - whether it be a low-carb beer, a nice white wine or a whiskey-diet - without sacrificing your low-carb diet.

If you enjoy it and it doesn't hurt you then .. ok. I saw it and thought it was a bit odd. downer and upper as someone says here. right on.
    It's dehydrating too.
    Caffeine and alcohol.

    Need more water.

    • ANSWER:
As far as I know a good few European countries, including France, have banned red bull because they had some suspicious deaths which they blamed on its combination with vodka. Somebody died of a heart attack I think after drinking the two together and doctors felt it put too much strain on the heart. I don't think they're suggesting that it's going to kill everyone that drinks it but that if you have a heart condition it's possible.

It's pretty nasty anyway, especially that pleasant carpeting effect it has on your teeth.

Is the alcoholic energy drink 'Joose' okay to drink in moderation?

These students were stupid though, they don't know moderation. So what I'd like to know is if this drink is okay when taken slowly. Say perhaps one can of Joose in two hours? How bad would this be? Or even one can of Joose in 3 hours, would this be okay?

    • ANSWER:
A 23.5oz can of 12%abv Joose contains eight units of alcohol, the recommended safety limit PER DAY for an adult male is four units an an adult female three units, what do you think?

  11. QUESTION:
How much caffeine is in the energy - alcoholic drink Tilt?
My friend is obsessed with the drink and can't seem to find the caffenine amount. Apparently it doesn't say on the bottle. I have been searching as well and can't seem to find it. If anyone knows the caffeine amount (and can prove it), please help me (and my friend as well).

    Thanks!
I'm not drinking it; I can't even have caffeine. My friend really wants to know how much is in the drink itself. I am not worried about my health. It is just a question.

    • ANSWER:
I don't drink the popular enrgy drinks that are on the market because of all the sugar and caffeine that are contained in them. I would imagine though if you drank a bunch of them, you would have the "jitters" from all the sugar. These type of drinks are really bad for you.

If you are concerned about your health, you may want to consider an alternative. I drink an energy drink that works in 10-15 minutes after drinking it, lasts for several hours, no "jitter" buzz or "crashing", and are much less expensive than most other energy drinks.

  20. QUESTION:
Is sparks (the alcoholic energy drink) vegan?
there are three different types, one orange, regular - one blue, light - and one black, extra strong.. Now does anyone know if they're produced without any animal ingredients (in the final product or used under the production)?

    • ANSWER:
It contains Taurine! Almost 100% of all Taurine is produced from slaughterhouse offal! In other words it's not even going to be vegetarian.

Unless a product specifically states that their Taurine is derived using bacterial synthesis from vegan sources it is NOT going to be veggie friendly. Beware of companies that state our Taurine is synthetic or synthesized. Under current legal guidelines animal derived Taurine can qualify as synthetic if it is produced by enzymatic action on other animal amides such as L-Carnitine.

There are NO "energy" drinks that are vegan or vegetarian! Due to the *much* higher cost of producing vegan Taurine it is only used in specialty pet foods and some medicines!

Give me whatever you've had and if it mixed together pretty well.
yea i knew a lot of people would be mentioning jagermeister, but never knew about vodka being so good with them. Thanks...how about whiskey? it doesn't sound like it would work at all but im just curious to see if anyone tried it

    • ANSWER:
Try some of these, and of course it doesn't have to be redbull or name brand booze. I always actually use sparks instead of redbull since it tastes about the same and will add more alchol into the equation ;)

      S.O.B.
No, it's not what you think. Your mother won't get offended with this one. It's Stoli Orange and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. Ask the guys at Freeskier Magazine about this one. An orange wedge for garnish.

      Bazooka Bull
It'll blow your mind out of the canon! It's Bacardi Limon and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. Tastes like a Bazooka Joe Bubble Gum.

      Blaster
It started in Europe and made its way to Denver. Presentation is important with this. A pint glass with a can of Red Bull on top with it's tab open so that the can will rest on the glass and pour on its own while the bartender pours the Jagermeister into a shot glass. Drop the shot of Jager into the glass of Red Bull and chug. Also known in Breckenridge as a "Bullmeister".

      Dirty Little Bastard
Created by some bartenders in Montana, this one consists of a pint glass filled with ice and a shot of Bacardi 151, fill with Red Bull and a float of Jagermeister. Drink it through a straw till it's gone. Keep your hands on the glass, not the person sitting next to you.

      Depth Charger
There is some controversy over this one. Whatever they call it, it's much like the Blaster only you substitute Stoli Vanilla and Grand Marnier for the Jager. Remember, presentation is important. Create fun!

      Chambull
Simple! Champagne (the real stuff made in France!) mixed with Red Bull. Bring on the bubbles. Champagne glass with a cherry on the bottom.

      Kiss-A-Bull
A little flava added to the bull. A shot of apple, grape, cherry, watermelon, or peach Pucker and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. A cherry garnish is a nice touch.

      Tish & Terry
Created by the bartenders who discovered it in Portland, Oregon. Finlandia cranberry vodka and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. Lime wedge garnish.

      Bull Royale
Ladies and Gentlemen alike enjoy this one. A shot of Crown Royal and a half-shot of Amaretto Di Sarrono with Red Bull. Served in a highball on the rocks. Cherry garnish.

      Bullgarita
A south of the border favorite. Red Bull with Jose Cuervo tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Salted or unsalted. Served in a hurricane glass on the rocks. Lime wheel garnish.

      Ronin Bull
Created by a sushi grill and bar in Boulder. Raspberry fused sake, Stoli vodka and Red Bull. Served in a highball on the rocks. Awesome!

  23. QUESTION:
Alcoholic Drink mixed with Energy Drink and Baby Formula?
I've heard of people drinking a mix of alcohol, baby formula, and energy drinks... What does this do? Why do they add the baby formula???

    • ANSWER:
It does nothing other than promote their need for acceptance via their bizarre alcoholic kink.

I suppose the formula is more nutritional than mixing it with Coca-Cola.

  24. QUESTION:
Can anybody please tell me any non-alcoholic drinks that can be made from Monster Energy drink?
    It would be much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:

  25. QUESTION:
Are alcoholic energy drinks the equivalent of beer in terms of alcohol volume?
Are alcoholic energy drinks the equivalent of beer in terms of alcohol volume?
For instance, if i have one Sparks or Tilt - would it be like drinking a beer or do they have more alcohol in them? Sparks has 7.0 - 8 alcohol volume and Tilt has 6.6 - 8.0 alcohol volume.

    • ANSWER:
typical beers run around 5% unless out west where they have 3.5% so be careful with the extra energy

  26. QUESTION:
How can you people allow the alcoholic beverage energy drink to exist on your shelves for adults and not kids?
Have you learned nothing about what the "drug" alcohol, just like crystal meth or heroin or cocaine or pills that contain these habit forming drugs have been doing to our society, or family, our friends and our relationships? The point is this. You don't allow everyone to have and hold guns, yet you think that there are certain individuals responsible enough to have them, hold them, and use them. Where are you going to draw the line between what is acceptible and what is not? When can I get drunk on an energy drink, and how long do I have to wait before I'm allowed to get "smashed in a blind stuper while running around the block with my neighbors wife from the new alcoholic energy drink?" It's very simple. Deadly drugs are here and killing people and destroying the world that you know because you are allowing it by choice. You want it, demand it, and you are even willing to kill anyone to make sure that "the drugs" are here to stay. Go out and have another cigarette.Have a nice day.

    • ANSWER:
Not much of a question there Mr. Castro, I mean Fidel, or Communist. I thought my 9th Grade English teacher had something up her butt but that pails in comparison to whats wedged up yours. Fortunately for the alcohol companies there are people out there willing to purchase those beverages. Any person over the age of 18 can own a gun (w/ certain restrictions on felons and types of guns), so to say we only allow certain people to is absurd. I personally don't drink and I don't own guns but in the United States we are given the liberty to destroy our lives or better ourselves, it's called free will. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If alcohol makes you happy then drink up. If you want the government to restrict everything you do, move to Cuba.

For the posts after this one, the asker is referring to drinks such as B to the E by Budweiser. Here are two websites, one from the beer drinkers point of view and the latter from the asker's point of view (probably exactly where he got his idea from).

  27. QUESTION:
Are caffeinated alcoholic energy drinks REALLY all that dangerous enough to warrant being banned?
And even if they ARE dangerous, how are they more dangerous than types of caffeinated/alcoholic/energy drinks that are NOT banned?

    • ANSWER:
No. It's a terrible combination and the cans contain far too much alcohol for a single serving, but a bottle of vodka is just as dangerous in a stupid person's hands. Plus people will just wander over to the "energy" drink aisle and mix them. Legislating morality doesn't work and banning stupidity is futile. As much as I think 4L is crap and junk and nonsense and stupid, banning it won't help.

As for "more dangerous" Four Loko has more caffeine than others (although they're removing some/all) and quite a bit of alcohol. If they legislate X% alcohol and Xmg of caffeine, somebody will just create something just under the limit.

  28. QUESTION:
Was it dumb to ban alcoholic energy drinks?
I mean you can still go to a bar and get any liquor mixed with a regular energy drink that's more potent that Four Loko.

    • ANSWER:
i know right? downing a bottle of vodka is a thousand times worse but they don't ban vodka in collages or from being sold in stores. And if you take straight liquor and use an energy drink as a mixer (which is popular now) you get a combo much stronger than any Four Loko premixed drink. yet no one bans bars using regular energy drinks as mixers. That will be next watch. the funny thing is an energy drinks effects are highly overrated. whenever something is new and powerful they try to ban it.

  29. QUESTION:
What is a good non-alcoholic punch drink that includes mountain dew or an energy drink?
its for a new years eve party; and there can be NO alcohol.

    • ANSWER:
I like one that uses Spite. Ice Cream and Strawberries. Sprite isn't an energy drink though, so you could substitute Mountain Dew or Red Bull I guess.

If a few people are dumb enough to drink more than 1 or 2 and die from them so what, people die every day in car accidents

  34. QUESTION:
are sparks alcoholic energy drinks dangerous?
does anyone know if sparks alcoholic energy drinks are dangerous? has anyone ever been harmed by them? thanks for whatever input/sources that you guys have for me!

    • ANSWER:
Several dozen college students around here (I'm ina town with 3 big Universities) have ended up in the ER from them. Alcohol is a depressant. It slows your system down. Energy drinks speed it up. Also, energy drinks are NOT regulated by the FDA, so they can put just about anything in them. Mixing the two is stupid, your system is trying to speed up and slow down all while elimiating alcohol, caffeine and God knows what else.

To the best of my knowledge, only 2 guys died from mixing RedBull and Vodka - at least around here. Just don't be stupid. If you feel funny, STOP drinking them!! :p And they're certainly not ment to be a "binge" drink.

is there an energy drink that is also alcoholic out there. Is sparks?? is there any low carb ones?
I heard that there is energy drinks out there that ARE ALCOHOLIC...any one know about them and if they are good??

    • ANSWER:
If you want a low carb one you want to lose weight, or not raise your blood sugar.

Energy drinks have very dangerous amounts of caffeine. But in addition to that, that amount of caffeine will put your metabolism so slow that you will never lose weight. And caffeine raises your blood sugar. so in answer to your question I would say...

Just have a weak cup of coffee or tea instead.

As with anything else these days, a few morons make a bad decision and then the "nanny state" feels it needs to step in and protect us. Makes me want to puke. If you don't know your limits and how much you can handle, you shouldn't be drinking anyway.
