      Homemade Sports Drink
      Sports drinks like Gatorade (tm) can be very useful for longer runs and races. Unfortunately, they are also very expensive. I've found a couple of ways of making sports drinks that are effective and cheap. The ideas for the recipe, like most good running ideas, first came to me from The Dead Runners' Society.

      Gatorade (tm) has worked hard to come up with what they feel is a good balance of carbohydrates and electrolytes for extended physical activity. Most researchers agree that the optimal concentration of carbohydrates in a sports drink is about 6%. This concentration actually allows the water to be absorbed more quickly in the body than plain water alone. I don't think we need to use sports drinks. I don't use them unless I'm doing a run that going to be over 90 minutes long. However, for long runs, the water, electrolytes, and carbohyrdates help a lot.

      Gatorade has a formulation that gives the following for an 8oz serving:
      14grams Carbohydrate (5.9%)
      110 mg Sodium
      30mg Potassium
      52 calories

      Assuming that is a pretty good formula, we can get close by using one of the following recipes:

      Recipe #1
      10 tbs. sugar (5/8 cups or 120 grams)
      .75 tsp Morton Lite salt (4.2 grams)
      1 package of unsweetened Coolade mix for flavor
      Water to make 2 liters

      The recipe will give a total of 124 grams of solute which in 2 liters water gives a total of 6.2% concentration. For an 8 oz serving this gives:
      14.2 grams carbohydrate (6%)
      53 calories
      103 mg Sodium
      121 mg Potassium

      You'll notice that the amount of potassium is quite a bit higher than Gatorade, but the rest is pretty close. If you wanted to reduce the potassium, another option would be to use 1/2 tsp. each of regular salt and the Morton Lite Salt. This would change it to:
      104mg sodium
      40mg potassium

      Recipe #2
      If you wanted to reduce the amount of potassium, or simply didn't want to buy some Morton Lite Salt, here is another option.

      1/2 cup orange juice
      9 tbs. Sugar
      3/8 tsp Salt
      Water to 2 liters

      This gives, per an 8 oz serving:
      14.4 grams carb (6.1%)
      104 mg sodium
      28.4 mg Potassium

      I believe that you could substitute 2 tbs. of lemon juice for the orange juice and it would come out the same (or at least close).

      Remember, the exact proportions aren't as important as just using it for your long runs.

      Keep refrigerated.

      Your Own Powdered Sports Drink
      I like to take along sports drink powder and mix it up with water from a water fountain, etc. when out on my long walks, after drinking my first sports bottle of plain water.
      • 9 tablespoons table sugar
      • 3/8 teaspoon table salt
      • 1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid or other drink mix.
      Mix dry.
      Portion 1/3 of the mixture into each of three ziplock bags.
      To reconstitute, add contents of 1 bag to a 20-oz. sports bottle. Fill halfway with water, mix, and fill with water, mix again.

    What are some ways I can increase my energy?
    I drink sugar free drink mixes, and diet arizona ice tea, alot of cheese, pastas and breads. I do include vegetables and rice mixed in with meals.

    What kind of exercises and dietary changes can i make to have more energy?

    Blue dolphin E bad experience?
    Ive been taking E for almost three years, and the other nite i took a triple stacked blue dolphin, and i had my first bad E experience. At first i was way too pumped i ran into the park during a thunder storm nd was about to fite a statue cause i thought it was a person then i drank an arizona energy drink my heart started racing nd i started getting panicky nd this went on thru out the nite i couldnt even fall asleep i didnt rlly like blue dolphins....does ne one hav a similar story?

      Yes, just this past Saturday I took 2 yellow e pills and had this antsy, heart racing, hot and cold at the same time mixed with the feeling as if my skin were on fire experience. It was hell and I couldn't wait for it to be over. I took it around 2:30 in the afternoon and couldn't sleep until 7AM the next day. I tossed my cookies about three times the whole day/night and felt overall sick the entire time. Never again.

    I'm going to start drinking only water?
    I'm used to drinking about 2 cans of pop a day, juices, energy drinks and whatever else, with absolutely no water. I'm going to try to start not having anything but water. I want to shed a couple pounds, and i'm always sick and somebody said if i start cleansing my body with water it will help. Today I had an Arizona Sweet tea.If i drink Tea sometimes along with the water is it going to make it worse?

      Yes, water is the best of beverages to flush out your system and help to keep you healthy. Arizona Ice Tea has lots of sugar so it is no different than soda or pop. Cutting out your sugary drinks will help you lose weight. You can also drink unsweetened tea and green tea. Do NOT use artificial sweeteners. That is just substituting one vice for another. You can use Stevia, a natural sweetener.

    What kinds of food do Food Stamps or EBT cover in Arizona.?
    Im just wondering cause i just got my EBT card today and im not sure whats covered. I was told energy drinks and soda at gas stations are covered but im not sure. What else is covered, every bit of information is helpful. Thanks

      Food items only - energy drinks are NOT covered. Look at an items label - if it has a nutrition label it is eligible if it is supplemental it is not. Sodas are. The problem with gas stations is that most do not accept the ebt card. Stores must apply and be approved to accept ebt so it is normally larger chains and grocery stores. Look for a sign showing they accept snap, ebt.. or ask.
      You can not purchase cleaning supplies, hot foods, foods designed to eat at the location, paper products, medications, pet supplies or pet food - only things designed for preparation and consumption at your home for you and your family.

    How to drive for a long distance?
    Can anyone answer my question? I see my mom's boyfriend driving for so long and he never sleeps. It makes me wonder because he is 59. He just sits there with his foot on gas. I'm wondering if I'm able if I can drive that long from Northern California to Phoenix, Arizona. It takes 11 - 12 hours. I want to go there to visit a friend but I don't want to take stops except for using the restroom and gas. Anyone knows? I don't drink energy drinks or coffee.

      Even long-haul truck drivers get tired of driving after a while.

      Try to stop every three of four hours. Get out of the car, walk around, use the rest room even if you don't really need it, Get a cold drink (I recommend water). When walking back to the car, take a quick look at the tires and lights to be sure everything is safe.

      When you're on the road use cruise control if you have it. Make sure your air conditioning works, and keep the inside of the car fairly cool. Some people like loud music. Music puts me to sleep. I prefer listening to any kind of talk radio. Listening to voices and trying to follow the conversation helps me stay awake. Another good thing is books on tape or CD. Same thing as talk radio...

      If you're going to drive at night, slow down. You can't see as far at night, and you never know what's waiting for you around the next bend in the road. Keep the windshield and the headlights clean so you'll get the best possible view of the roadway.

    How do you stay hydrated for a long period of time?
    In about 2 weeks I am going to a huge rock festival. I live in Arizona and it is supposed to be 100-116 degrees so it is going to be hot. It is an all day (12PM-11PM) show and it is outside. How can I keep myself hydrated for a long time? Please don't just say "drink water." That is common f'ing sense. In case you were wondering what festival it is the "Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Tour"

      There isnt really anything else you can do besides drinking water and apparently you dont want to hear that. Maybe try eating saltier foods, sodium retains water. But drinking water and keeping your body flushed with fluids keeps your body hydrated.

    Dollar store products worth it or not.?
    Dollar tree sells items like energy drinks, arizona green tea, even books for 1$ while Target and Wal Mart do for at least 2-4 times that much. Are they usually the exact same item or do they have problems. And are they worth the risk.

      Most of the stuff is krap, but some of it is necessary like you can get a paint brush or paint roller for a dollar when it will cost you like 10 at home depot, so basically it's like this- we need people to shop at stores that sell things cheaply that way they keep the bigger stores prices in check. If you can get something cheaper somewhere else then it forces others stores to lower their prices when they can not compete and that is good for the consumer so always look for a better deal no matter what.

    Can I sell legal drugs in energy/Kool-Aid drinks?
    I was wondering if it was legal to sell Kratom or Saliva to people in the forum of a drink? If it is, what form can I sell these in? What would be the best legal high to sell to people? I thought Kratom was best because you can get addicted to it.
