Diet is one of the most important components of a diabetes care and maintenance regimen. Using the diabetic food exchange list is an excellent way to ensure a healthy meal each time. It also helps expand your choices when preparing or choosing a menu.
What is the Diabetic Food Exchange List?
The diabetic food exchange list is a system that makes up the structure of your personal diabetes meal plan. It is quite useful especially if you're looking for variety in your diet without sacrificing the necessary elements that are required for your condition. This way, you can take a look at several types of foods available and then decide which ones to use for a particular meal without worrying you might be using the wrong type of food or food combination.
How Does It Work?
In the diabetic food exchange list, foods are grouped into several basic types - fruits, dairy and dairy products, starches, meat and meat substitutes, sugars, et cetera. The exchange list will tell you how much of each food in each group you can eat while maintaining your daily recommended calories because calorie information is included with each food portion.
Each food on the exchange list is called an "exchange" and the system will guide you in determining which foods equal 1 exchange. It's easy to substitute one food for the other because the exchange list will indicate which foods have the same nutrients, carbohydrate and calorie content. If you swap a certain food with another, you get the same nutrients provided you follow the recommended portion control.
The diabetic food exchange list will help you measure food, regardless of which group it belongs to. This means you won't need the assistance of a nutritionist or dietitian every step along the way. Long-term use of the exchange list will train you into knowing how to make good estimates of the ideal serving size of any food that may be available to you at any given moment. Whichever you pick, you will get the same nutrients. Here's an example:
Vegetables
Almost all vegetables may be included in the diabetic food exchange list. One exchange is about half a cup of cooked or raw vegetables which contains carbohydrates and protein. When used with salad dressing, however, add 1 fat exchange.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are an important component of any diabetic diet because they are your body's major source of energy. Approximately half of your daily calorie intake should come from this food group. Any of these foods may be exchanged or swapped, depending on your needs or preference:
1/2 hot dog or hamburger bun or 1 slice of bread
1/3 cup of cooked pasta or a single 5-inch pancake.
3/4 cup cereals (unsweetened) or ½ cup cooked oatmeal or grits
1 tortilla or 6 small saltine crackers or 15 pcs. of fat free corn chips
1/4 bagel or 1/2 pita bread
Fruits
Fruits can be an excellent source of fiber, water and natural sugar. The fruits listed below contain about 60 calories each with nearly zero fat.
1/4 cup water melon or 1/3 small cantaloupe or 1/2 cup berries
1/2 cup orange/grapefruit juice or 1/2 cup of pineapple or apple juice or 1/3 cup grape juice
1/2 banana or 1 small apple
Meats
Meats are an important source of protein. Choose only lean meats and skinless portions for poultry. High-fat meats can increase your cholesterol level.
1 oz. tuna or 1 egg or 2 egg whites
1 oz. ground beef or 1 oz. of low fat cheese or cottage cheese
1 oz. of fish or 1 oz. of dark meat poultry (skinless)
1 oz. lean pork or 1 oz. lean beef
Milk and Milk Products
2/3 cup of fat free yogurt or 3/4 cup of yogurt sourced from 2% milk
1 cup nonfat or skim milk or 1 cup 1% milk (2% milk will also do)
Sweets
The foods listed below are a good source of both carbohydrates and fats but they can also be great for your dessert in case you have the craving.
1/3 cup low fat frozen yogurt or 1/2 cup ice cream
1 2-inch square brownie or 2 small cookies or 1 granola bar

QUESTION:
I drank Dark Dog Energy Drink and my head started to hurt every morning?
I'm 13 years old, I don't have a high blood pressure, I'm not those kids who eat sweets like mad, but I drank a Dark Dog Energy Drink (Lots of caffeine) and my head has been starting to hurt like hell every morning.
I get up and I feel nothing, until I come to my Classrom at about 8 AM the pain starts..
Neither I have Sinusitis, because I don't even sneeze or feel my own scum. I've got to take an Aspirin or Ibuprofen every morning which is bad because they're drugs... and sometimes even that doesn't help too much, it reduces the pain, and at about 7 PM it stops.
I'm constantly drinking Soda or drinks like Pepsi so I doubt it could be because of low percent of water...
What it is?-
ANSWER:
You are at age 13, already becoming addicted to caffeine - the most commonly used drug in our society!! Pepsi, Coke and any other cola drinks and some other sodas also have caffeine in them - sometimes a lot - and TONS of sugar.. so you ARE a kid who "eats sweets like mad" if you drink soda pop. Your headaches are probably the result of a) an "after caffeine crash", and b) perhaps also not enough water: any drink with caffeine in it, will cause you to pee more - so you lose more water than you take in!!My advice: cut out caffiene and sodas completely - go cold turkey. Drink water, juice (but only natural fruit juice, not the other fake ones, which are mostly just flavored sugar-water), and you can start trying herbal teas: peppermint, for example, tastes NICE and perks you up also - a couple of cups of peppermint tea in the morning can really help you stay focused in school.
There is one easy way to tell if you are getting enough water (and again, energy drinks and sodas don't count...): your pee should be almost clear: if it is more than just a bit yellow, you need more water. This will give you much more energy, believe me!!
Finally (for now at least!), make sure you get enough sleep: at your age you need at least a SOLID 8 hours per night - any less and you will not be as alert and full of energy as you could be. Teenagers actually need more sleep than 10 year-olds, because your brain and body are growing and changing so quickly that they need extra sleep time for repair and renewal and growth.
I am sure if you put this advice to work, in a couple of weeks you will be feeling MUCH better!!!

QUESTION:
I think my dog may have eaten some dark chocolate..?
When I came home I found a wrapper from a dark chocolate bar on the floor along with some things my dog had torn up. The last I saw it, there was a chunk (about 1/8 ounce) left in the wrapper.I also found a small pile of vomit with a chunk of raw onion at the top.
Seems like the dog got into the trash while he had the house to himself.Anyway he's acting kinda low on energy compared to his usual hyper self, he's walking with his head down and sitting in a ball by himself. It seems like he doesn't feel to well.. he's still playful and stuff though.
I gave him some dog food but had trouble getting him to drink, though he might not be thirsty. Also it seems like his stomach might be twitching a little bit.. it's going in and out slightly like he has mild hicups.
I was wondering if any of this is synonymous with chocolate poisoning, and if anyone knows how much chocolate it takes for a dog to get sick, if I should take him to a vet, etc.
Thanks.

ANSWER:
Take him in. Worst case scenario they'll pump his stomach and give him fluids via IV. Best case, they'll tell you he's fine.

QUESTION:
Dog has dark red, almost black gums?
My dog has been acting strange, she has been really tired and has a few sores on her legs. I just checked her gums and saw that they are extremely dark. I don't know her normal gum color, though. We spent the weekend at a cabin by the lake, and she did lots of swimming, much more than she usually does. Does exercise have anything to do with the gum color?
She is a black lab, 2 1/2 years old, and she is still eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping normally. Please give me an answer, I'm worried.
Also, she had energy all weekend, but when we were at home Sunday night, she seemed tired.-

QUESTION:
dog stool - solid but black?
My choc lab had very dark, almost black stool this morning. She's eating and drinking fine and her energy level is also normal. Should I be worried. There were no sign of blood in her stool. Does the stool turn dark if the dog has been holding it for a long time (overnight)? Thanks
-
ANSWER:
In simple terms...
BLACK= blood. Blood= problem needing vet attention.
There is one exception that I have found to this rule...fresh liver aka lambs fry. Liver is just full of blood and occaisonally I give half a raw one to my medium sized dog (on consective days to use it up)- when I do it causes black tarry stools just like blood affected ones.If you are not feeding the dog liver then I seriously suggest that you go get the dog looked at as soon as possible. Both human and doggy illnesses can usually be fixed if you get them early enough but left untreated can be fatal.

QUESTION:
How come vets say never to fed a cat food to a dog, as it too high in protein & fat? ?
How come vets always tell you never fed cat food to a dog as it is
Cat food is too high in protein and fat for a dog.
The recommended protein for adult cat is 30%!?How come then that many holistic, organic and natural dog food contain 35%+ protein, some contain 42%protein and other contain 52%protein? Yet are apparently safe to feed, without causing kidney damage? I have numerous vet tell me that high protein leads to kidney failure and i also read plenty of information from people who have fed these dogs, these high protein diet and have gotten damage kidneys? here is just one website-
Here is one of the review
kristinabutler55 (0)
Please be aware that this IS a great food, but is very HARD on the KIDNEYS!! Especially in small breeds. We have a 5 yr old Shih Tzu. He is allergic to EVERYTHING, Innova Evo, Chicken was the best with the least allergens. It did reduce the poop, not that his tootsy rolls were and issue any ways compared to my lab. It does make the coat beautiful. We almost lost our Shih Tzu though. This food and this food alone was the cause of my babies Kidneys nearly shutting down. It was AWFUL! We had to go through Many days and night at the vet and weeks of IV fluid therapy at home and loads of money at a vet to fix this problem. His Kidney is forever damaged. Innova is a great food and I still tell people, just check your fur babies kidney levels periodically to be sure everything is functioning normally. As in everything, this was MY experience, just sharing

I have been using EVO for about 3 months for my 9yrs old 50lbs mix breed. First Chicken formula where she gained so much weight I decided to switch to reduced fat formula. I did see a great improvement in less shedding. I switched foods very slowly and am now on the reduced fat completely. In the last week she has become severely dehydrated and is drinking so much that she urinated in the house twice (hasn't done this in 8 years). She has also suffered from terrible upset bowels. I have her on rice now to calm the stomach but I am going to have to switch foods. Her symptoms are the same as the pom listed in a previous post.minachan282 (0)
When I first got my pom I had him on the red meat formula due to his chicken allergies, shortly thereafter he was inhaling water as though he was severely dehydrated, his stools were foul smelling and dark and he was urinating everywhere. We kept him on this diet for a full week to give it a shot but with no improvement. I think this may be great for working breeds or very active dogs but the protein levels were much too high for my house dog.TeresaG (31)
I recently responded to this food as just Innova, and not EVO ~ so I need to say, while the ingredients are good, please be aware that the ADULT food is 42% crude protein. That is VERY high for most dogs, so if you do not have a Working Dog ~ ie. Hunting Dog, Police Dog, etc. just be careful about the weight if you have a not so active dog.woodside (0)
We started feeding evo to our Toy Manchesters on the advice of a customer who was showing our dogs..at first it looked good,,less poop better haircoat...but in time we had problems with patchy hair coat, and frequent urination...all tests were negative for any mange, thyroid etc...after removing from evo it was a turn around..it is dangerous for small active house dogs..howlingwolf (0)
Fed my Great Dane+Rottweiler mix dog this food for 1 year. During that time, she would eat grass all the time, fart a lot, be hungry all the time, beg a lot, poop a lot and have diahorrea occasionally. My dog is a very high energy dog that plays fetch everyday for an hour and a walk for an hour. She started urinating in the house involuntarily and I took her to the vet. Vet said the protein levels are too high in the blood, kidneys are under a lot of pressure and asked me to stop feeding this food. My rationale: If 42% protein in this food is not for a high energy and athletic dog like mine, then what kind of a dog is this suitable for! Although the ingredients are good, protein levels are too high for any dog and most of it is not digestible. So this food is not good. Reviews from people who fed their dogs this food for more than 8 months have not been good. So please use the brain cells you got and analyse and stay away from this food.

QUESTION:
What should my dogs 'spay' incision look like after a week?
It's dark brown and really scabby looking. It looks pretty gross. I have been keeping an eye on her though, and she acts completely normal, and is playing around with our other dog as ususal. Still eating and drinking and has plenty of energy (husky). Just want to make sure she is ok, as it's Saturday and I can't call the vet til Monday.-
ANSWER:
She is fine. Scabs are a good thing - scabs signify healing.
I kept a close eye on my eldest female's incision because I had never owned a female prior to her since I was a kid - her incision was generally a little brown nearing the end of it all. I wouldn't be concerned unless the incision opens up at all or it starts to puss and bleed.

QUESTION:
First time dog owner worried about sick dog.?
His nose is very dry and he has diahrea. He will not eat his dog food, I got him to eat a little bit of roast beef then hid the rest in his normal dog food and he still refused to eat it. I haven't seen him drink anything either. Normally he is a very hyper dog, his is a 1 yr old Jack Russel, Foxterrier, and Poodle mix he has energy for days and does not quit running. I let him out of his crate to take him on his walk and he usually goes crazy running around. He was outside rather late last night and it was close to 30 degrees. He doesnt seem to have any energy, while on his walk he seemed to have trouble urinating and usually marks anything he can due to being an unfixed male. He only urinated one time and it was dark yellow and only pooped one time and it seemed to be all water. He hasnt had any change of diet and was fine yesterday.I am a first time dog owner and am just concerned about my dog please help me out.

QUESTION:
Very Active Dog..Food Adding?
Hi, i have a 4 year old intact male reg cattle dog. He is VERY fit and VERY VERY active. I do fly ball and agility with him. As well as working on the ranch i live on, so daily he works 2500+ head of cattle and 400+ sheep. I do utility level obedience training with him. I jog with him every morning, and in the after noon I bring him down to the lake where he goes swimming for 2-3 hours, playing fetch and Frisbee, as well as jumping off the dock. And 4 times a week we go to the local dog park and he plays with all the dogs there. I do go horseback riding daily and he follows along on the trail rides, or on the quad or dirt bike which ever i take. However, he still has energy even after all that. The past week on the way down to the lake, i have let him run beside the vehicle (off leash), normally about 25-30kms. And let him choose the speed. He loves it. He could do it for hours, however, i have only let him do it on and off for 1 and a half hours- two hours. He could still go for a while but at a slower pace 10-15 kms, or a steady jog/lope. I normally only do this when it gets cooler before dark. How can i tell when he is tired enough that i should make him stop? Each go around on the lake trails is about 15 mins, then its by the docking shore, where i let him play in the water and cool off and drink etc for about 15 mins then we go with the truck again. This dog will not stop, he loves working and being physically active. Rawhides are finished in 15mins-1 hour, even the great dane sized bones. I give him treats in a jar/toys but he really isnt food motivated (he doesnt even eat steak or other treats, never mind dog treats lol)As you can see Rocky is VERY active. Which means he needs and eats alot of food. I feed Orijen and mix all the flavors together normally 2 bags puppy flavors to 1 bag adult formulas. He eats 4 level cups in the morning with 1 table spoon wet cat food(kitten formula) with a small scoop of dry cat food. At night he eats 3or4 level cups of food with a table spoon of wet cat food and a small amount of left overs, mainly things like peas, carrots, left over gravy etc. He gets 2 raw hides a day. And he gets a bully stick (bull **parts**) twice a day. With branding season the working dogs often get a bunch of prairie oysters, sometimes baked, sometimes raw. And with the local Mennonites getting rid of the "unwanted" egg layer hens, we often get 10-20 of them at a time and give him one every few days. Every Friday Rocky gets ONE raw egg mixed into his normal ration to help coat and for extra vitamins. As treats though out the day i give him 20-30 baby carrots cut up. I put 1ml of K9 Natu-Joint in his morning meal. I give him K9 Blu Lite on the days that its very hot and he is working hard. I give him ONE K9 Restart Bar if he is working hard as well. Everyday he gets a spoon of K9 vit. supplements. The vet said it wouldn't do him any harm. However he still remains a little under weight. (Feel and slightly see his ribs. and feel his spine. however he is one solid brick. Literally.)
-
ANSWER:
His meal plan sounds fine to me, and your vet seems to be ok with it.Honestly, your dog is super active and always on the go. Just like humans, if we excersize constantly, we're going to stay lean and fit, very slim.
You could add more to his food if you wanted, but I personally don't think it's necessary. These dogs are suppose to be slim and lean. You're doing fine.Best wishes!

ANSWER:
One thing I would say is that any dog / person that exercises to this extreme amount will actually have more energy because their whole metabolism goes up, and therefore it is a self perpetuating situation. As a dance teacher who used to dance endless hours a week I know that feeling. You literally live on adrenalin and just don't stop. However, exercise to that extreme isn't always so good for the body and quite honestly I really do think he is getting enough. As the doctor always tells me "you dancers keep your muscles in tone but don't do your joints any good at all"...... "yes doc"....!!!! lol...
I would also like to say to any potential cattle dog or border collie owners who just do not realise what these dogs are capable of or need then this is a prime example of a dog of this nature fulfilling his daily needs.
I think you are doing an excellent job with him (obviously) but maybe you should think about his joints just a little more now, and leave the exercise as you already have it.

She an 8 year old mini schnouzer and she went into heat about a week and a half ago and it wasn't right. She bled mroe then normal a dark dark blood. since she has had barely any energy and won't eat she is losing weight. I don't have a lot of money so I want to try to refrain from going to the vet. does anyone know whats wrong with her? i can't lose this dog i already asked this but have added info. she has been drinking plenty when i bring water to her and she is no longer bleeding. she just has no energy and won't eat?-
ANSWER:
A neighbor of mine had a terrier mix who would get really ill like this whenever she went into heat. She stopped eating, would mope around, would run a fever, and the problem lasted until about a week after her heat cycle ended. In the end she had to get spayed and the problem instantly stopped. It truly had something to do with her heat cycle.

Identify three playstation1 games that I can't remember? A funny alien one, and a creepy one.?
Okay the first one was about aliens, you were an alien and there were many just like you and you were trying to save them from being made into pop, or an energy drink or something. And you could walk around and fart on other aliens and they'd slap you and stuff? (Haha, funny game..) And then there was the other one where you were a kid, and it started out with a cutscene of you and your dog, and your dog got taken away or something. And you go after him and end up in this dark world, and there are creatures in the shadows and stuff and you have some invention you use to kill them or zap them or suck them up or something. And the last one you're a zombie guy that was revived or something and you leave your crypt and your trying to get somewhere and there are other zombies running around that attack you?lol thanks for the help.. QUESTION:
What could be happening to my dog?
I just want to start off by saying that "Scooter" is at the Vet, but Im not going to know anything until the morning. So yesterday my 4 yr old Jack Russel "Scooter" was acting different. Usually he is full of energy but yesterday he was acting so sluggish and he didn't want to do much. I assumed he was still a little sore from when he injured his leg a few days before so I just thought Id wait until tomorrow to see what hes like.
Today I woke up and he wasn't on the couch where he usually sleeps; he was sleeping on a blanket on the floor. So again I thought that his leg was still sore and he didn't want to jump up on the couch. So I picked him up and put him on the couch. That's when things started getting weird. His eyes started to become unfocused and I couldn't do anything to get his attention. He was just staring. Finally after 30 seconds of saying his name and petting him; he looked at me.
So I picked up the phone and started talking to the Vet and while I was put on hold Scooter did something even more scary. He went to get a drink of water and along the way he falls over, lays flat and does the whole staring thing. It took over a minute to get him to focus. I then told the vet what was happening and he told me to get to the clinic asap.
Along the 20 minute drive Scooter had 2 more "staring" episodes. It got to the point where he couldn't even walk and his stomach started to bloat.
After he was examined the Vet told me that his red blood cell count was so low that he was wondering how he was even alive, he has internal bleeding and that he thinks he might have gotten into rat poisoning. But the thing is that I dont have anything like that around my house and when I take him for walks I always see what hes doing.Has anybody had this happen to their pet, or know of anything like this? I just hate being in the dark, and the vet will only tell me whats going on when HE phones.
So any insight will be helpful!
Im pretty sure there was nothing he could get into. The only thing Im thinking is that someone put something in my yard, but I cant think of anyone who would do that. (Maybe a random sadistic person?) I literally combed my yard and asked my neighbors if they had anything bad he could have eaten. No one did..
As I said before. There was nothing he could have gotten into. I checked everything, everywhere. Of course there is a chance he could have gotten into SOMETHING, but I havent found anything, and Scooter isnt the type of dog to wander...
Thank you for all your answers. Sadly Scooter passed away last night. An autopsy was done this morning and it was determined that he died from a blunt force which ruptured 2 arteries. Now I have the task of finding out what could have done that.-
ANSWER:
Yes - I have lost 2 dogs over the years to secondary poisoning - i.e. eating poisoned mice. It only takes a couple mice to kill a Siberian and the mice can travel over a mile after eating poison. If it's a slow bleed, you have a chance to save the dog (but it's expensive) - Tiandra had a slow bleed and was too lethargic to walk but we did save Ti. But her daughter, Heller, died instantly when a major organ bled out.
At that point I had no idea either dog was eating "kills" - yes, they had brought me dead mice, birds, etc. but Pride was the only one that ever ate "prey" (the neighbor's chickens that Heller would bait into the dog yard - some 300 ft back on MY property).
Some 20 years later, a 3 yr old EmCee, also collapsed and died on the way to the vets. Unfortunately in the country, especially when you have a wooded area and an unused pasture, field mice are a major problem and although I don't bait, I can;t stop neighbors' from putting out poison.
My Cairn Terrier often kills mice in the yards and sheds but to my knowledge, I have never seen him try to eat one. But when I had my late Schipperke x-rayed, she showed mice bones in her stomach (that was not what killed her though)

QUESTION:
These are the symptoms, what's wrong with me?
1. Excessive tiredness. (Even though I sleep very well for 6-8 hours a night) And when I say tiredness, I mean to the point I am falling asleep at work, on the bus etc. I mean exhausted!!!2. No energy (as a result from being so tired). Along with this comes a total lack of concentration, can't focus, trembling hands.
3. Really dark wee, like very concentrated. (I drink around 3-4 litres of water a day and it's not normally this colour at all, usually it's very light) And fairly light poo (sorry to be gross!)
5. (This might not make sense, but I will try!) When I wee, just as I have finished and I go to pull my pants up, I need to wee again. And a trickle will come out. This process repeats until I ignore the urge to wee and just pull my pants up and have done!
6. Headaches
7. Lack of appetite. No hunger, not interested in food. I eat because I know I have to, not because my body wants it... If that makes sense.
8. Itchy little lumps on the back of my thighs. Tons of them.
Tiredness is the main problem, it's killing me.
Ok, a little info about me.
I'm fairly healthy, have a BMI of 24.5. I don't drink fizzy drinks, tea, coffee or alcohol. Diet is good EXCEPT I have a ridiculously sweet tooth, and I will have a biscuit or two at least every day. I don't do as much exercise as I should, but I have to walk a mile to work every day, and I walk my dog. I'm 20 years old.
I am on acne meds along with the contraceptive pill. No vitamins or anything because I can't have iron, zinc, selenium or magnesium with the acne meds. (Been on them about 14-15 months)
My dad has coeliacs disease (gluten free diet), my mom is lactose intolerant and I have irritable bowel syndrome. (Not been tested for coeliacs)
Reason I ask is because I don't want to go to my doctor as I am trying to get into the RAF and I don't want anything on my medical records. However, if it could be something serious I won't risk my health and I will go to the docs, but only if it could be something serious.
Any ideas of what is wrong with me???
-
ANSWER:
dark urine light stool signals jaundice to me...you MUST get checked out.
In any case, you have to have a medical to get into the forces, i'm pretty sure that applies in every country, including the uk. And lying about your health is a bad idea, if found out - you will be considered unreliable. Probably a court martial offence.

QUESTION:
High fat content/Gaining weight/Up food intake.?
Literally.)
you cant see them to badly honestly.
And i just add a little bit of cat food to his Dog food. For added fats/protein/vitamins.-

QUESTION:
What is wrong with me!?
Please read all of this [or at least most of it!]! If you don't read all of it [or most of it, at least skim through it], don't answer the question! And please forgive me if I repeat myself sometimes. I WAS LIKE THIS BEFORE CAFFEINE [except for the part where I talk about it] I don't drink coffee or soda, or eat any sugary foods like candy.AAAAHHHH!!! I think I've lost my mind! Or just misplaced it!
I get really irritable/agitated sometimes. I'll be like "get away from me" or something along the lines of that, even when people aren't even really talking to me... I know how I want to die. I've planned out several different scenarios. I've planned out suicide before... I never followed through with the plans, though. One night I planned out how my life is going to go [most of this will never happen]: Okay, so I finish high school. I go to college to become a doctor. I fail college, get a job at McDonald's. I use heroin. Later I become the manager at McDonald's, even though I use heroin. I get married, have kids. The kids commit suicide because I'm such a freak. My husband leaves me for someone smart, pretty, and has a good personality, and because the kids died because of me. Then I go on a violent rampage, go to the mall and shoot lots of people. Then a cop shoots me and I die. That's it. I'm addicted to caffeine. Okay, so sometimes I get really depressed. My mom buys Crystal Light [you know, the stuff that you mix with your water, and then it tastes good?]. She buys this kind with caffeine in it. So, when I get really depressed, I just eat the stuff out of the little packets. There are 80 mg of caffeine in each packet. I usually have 3 or 4. Except one time my mom got this kind that had MORE caffeine in it. About 120 mg per packet [60 mg per 1/2 packet, which is what it says on the thing.] I ate 4, thinking, Oh well, it's only 240 mg... But it was really 480. [because one serving is 1/2 a packet, and it says this many mg per serving, and I forget that a serving is only 1/2]. When I had that much, my pulse was about 110, and I was just sitting, I almost passed out [my hands were numb, and everything was turning dark]... it was really weird... I've written these stories about this guy named Bipolar Schizophrenic Psychopath Bob that also has ADHD. He murders lots of people, eats peoples' brains, ate his dog that ate his cat, and in the last story, he commits suicide. I'm so hyper most of the time! It's really annoying! I talk way too much. I can't stop. I start talking, and then it's really hard to stop. I talk way too fast. One time, I said about 140 words in one minute [a little more than 2 words per second]. I don't usually talk that fast. About half that fast, maybe a little faster than half. I have so much energy. Then I start to get really annoying. I just act really stupid. I say stupid things... Really annoying... People think I'm really weird. I guess I am...I like blood... Well, not really. I just get really hyper sometimes. REALLY hyper. Then sometimes I start talking in this weird voice. I want to move. I have so much energy sometimes. I feel like I could run 2 miles! [doesn't seem like a lot, I know...] I don't want to, no wait, can't stay still. I need to move. I feel like this a lot. Not all of the time, but a lot... I think about death a lot. A LOT. And dying or suicide... Both. And violence... I get kind of violent sometimes. I feel like I need to hurt someone/something. I stabbed Mickey McJones a few times in the back. [I'm a backstabber! lol... jk] Mickey is my little eraser and I drew a face and clothes on him. I made him a whole family. A mom, dad, twin brother, brother's girlfriend, sister, sister's husband, crazy uncle, best friend, and a psychiatrist. Yes, I even made him a psychiatrist. Mickey hates his sister. He's really jealous of her. He thinks I like her more, but I really don't. He shot his sister. She almost died... But she's okay now.
I'm 13. I have lots of friends, and I play soccer. I have been for almost 9 years. There's really no reason I should be this way, though. I have a great family, a nice house...-

QUESTION:
Do you think this story is going well?
The room is dark, silent with only the glimmer of light from somewhere in front
of me.The light is blinding compared the the surroundings, it brings no detail
to anything.Just a beam in a million miles of darkness. There is a feeling of
cold against me, not icy but like a winter nights wind. My feet are not on the
ground, they dangle, free like a a star in the sky, allowed to move where they
want , but cant. From behind me I can now hear movement, and shuffling and
small, shallow breaths, they seem out of place in the darkness. I feel around
me, the touch of metal, cool on my skin, shocks me, where am i? My eyes are
fixed on the light, all my others senses seem lost and only my eyes can feel,
can sense. A hand touches my shoulder, and my heart begins to races, for a
reason i do not know, and the breathing gets nearer to my ear.Breathing heavily, i open my eyes ,sit up and look. I can see, i can touch and smell and hear.I
am in my bed, my home, my room. It was a nightmare. I calm myself down, and pull
the covers back to get out of my bed. I turn the light on and walk to the
bathroom to wash my face from the sweat that had accumulated when i was asleep.
The light is still bright to my eyes as i walk towards the kitchen to pore
myself a drink, hands shaking. I rub my eyes as i carry lifelessly, the glass
into the living room. I slump onto the sofa and stretch out, place the glass on
the the book case and trade it for the TV remote. As usual , there is nothing on
the TV at four in the morning except boring tele shopping programs, children
programs and the news. So i flick from channel until i get bored and finally
decide to leave it on the news ,so i can connect with the world. Football,
politics, a soldier killed in Afghanistan, and a murder in London (big surprise
there). So i just lay, having the TV as a background noise so i do not feel
totally alone in the empty room. I take a sip of water from my glass, which i
had to get the energy to actual get up and pick the glass up. My life is pretty
normal i typical i guess, with a boring routine to go with it. I go to sixth
form every weekday and on weekends i kick back and relax, barley having time to
myself. I like to watch films and read books at any chance i get, i love to get
lost in the story, live a life i do not have, do things i wouldn't ever do and
to be someone who i am not. But that is all a fantasy, another world which i
wouldn't be apart of.I am a part of this world, this time and i live here and
now. As i lay, i dream, i imagine ,and slowly i begging to hear nothing but
silence, and then nothing, nothing but sweet dreams and wishes.I'm woken by a door opening, it is my mother, who has come down to have her normal seven O' clock shower. This is my wake up call. I rise from the sofa, which has left me a
bit achy and i brush my hair, I also use the mirror to check myself , do i look
ok , ok yep, all clear i don't look too bad i guess. My blonde hair is now all
smoothed down , and is no longer looking like a shaggy dog is sitting on my
head.-

You'll have to read carefully because I changed spellings, punctuation, etc.

QUESTION:
Do I have a problem mentally?
Ok so, So I will tell a bit about myself. 15 year old male, I dont do drugs, dont drink, or smoke, nothing of that kind in fact. I do workout..and I get really stressed about that...its like...something I feel like I need to do to be accepted, I HAVE been suicidal and depressed, but after about a year and a half..my depression has been going away the past month...I guess because school is out, less stress maybe? . Anyway, I am a security freak, I absolutely CANNOT go to sleep, unless I check ALL the doors..lock em...try to open them..same with windows...sometimes I check my closets...bathroom, behind the shower curtain, (no curtains in my room, only blinds) I ALWAYS feel watched, and I mean ALWAYS..outside..inside.....except for the shower...the bathroom is the one place I feel safe I guess. I live in a 2 story house..but I hate it. I only like small apartments, because there are less windows..and doors, so I only have to "watch out" for one entrance, get it? And every month..I get these.."episodes"..I guess you could call them, I will sit up in my night in this house....bout 4-5 months ago..I could literally see hordes of zombies..just like in the game...run up my stairs...but after that..is like they werent there...and anyone who played the game...knows the distinct way they run, and that they travel in "packs". Of course I know they arent real..but at the time ..I didnt know..like..in the moment..I never call for help either..I will wander the house..making noise..so my mom wakes up..and I dont feel alone. Another time...in a different place...apartment..4 rooms...doors TIGHTLY locked, impossible, literally impossible, for a outsider to get in, LET me mention that I have a dog..a small one..that barks like hell is on earth, whenever a family member comes home..and she is 3..so she knows better, therefore..when a stranger comes in..she will NOT stop barking for at least 5 minutes..and she CAN and WILL wake up me. But I was watching Freddy vs Jason..and I stopped..fell asleep on the couch in the livin room, I wake up about 1 hour later..in MY room. with the doors closed...blinds pulled..so it was dark...during the day..about 4 in the afternoon..I was like..WEIRD..Because I KNOW I never left the living room...I was too lazy..and if I got up ..I would lose my desire to sleep, I go to wash my face...I see freddy kreuger..starring at me from the other side of the hallway...I kinda stare back..then keep walking..its weird..cuz usually I would freak the fu** out...but alright. So .yea...mostly about it..lately..I just sit on the xbox until 2 in the morning..so when I go to sleep, I CANNOT stay up and .."guard"..wheter I want to or not..due to lack of energy. I dont know why Im acting this way...this month..is happened about 3 nights in a row...and occasionally once a week...been 2 weeks since those 3 days....but I've been like this for years...always have to check doors..windows..I dont trust people, sometimes I am reluctant to leave my BEST FRIEND, whom I would die for, in my room, alone. I feel like I always have to watch my back..and like something is always watching me. Uhm..so Yea...I guess that sums it up....Do you think I am mentally ill or anything? Also I dont want to ask a doctor..because my mom said that it goes in my medical record...just like my therapy....so I dont want a "black mark" ...you know what I mean? Thanks for reading and/or commenting.-

QUESTION:
DS: I need your help, my APBT is very sick….?
Hello Dog Section, my 1-year-old APBT is very sick and I need your opinions, experience or any information or suggestions you may have to offer. I do apologize for the length but felt some of details were necessary. One of my babies, Notorious, is a one year old, APBT. He is UTD with his vaccinations, including his annual booster last month. His health has been excellent for the last year, although, after his rabies vaccination, I felt he had less energy and slept more.
Over the past two weeks, he had gas and bad breath even though I brush his teeth. I called the vet and spoke with a vet tech (big mistake), explained reason for my call, but was assured he just needed a cleaning, so I scheduled one. As for the gas, since all my dogs had it, I attributed it to the dog food.
When he woke-up last Wednesday morning, he had some light colored, mucus discharge in his eyes. Decided I would watch it and if it got worse, I would take him to the vet the next day. Thursday morning, the mucus in his eyes is now light green, but he also had it draining from his nose, was gagging, throwing up, would not eat and pawing at his muzzle.
That same day I took him to the vet and after he checked him, he said Notorious had an upper respiratory infection. His lungs were full of fluid and this throat was irritated and full of gunk. He gave him two injections and medication for me to take home and administer every eight hours: 500mg of Amoxicillin, 110mg of Keycotuss and AllButerol once a day in a vaporizer.
Over the weekend, the mucus in the eyes started clearing up and was now a light gray/brown. The nose had almost cleared completely. However, I could still hear his chest and he gagged once or twice, but his appetite was back. BTW, he never stopped drinking water.
Early Monday morning, he had a loose stool but not enough for me to worry. I took him to work, by noon he was throwing up again and his stool was now liquid, dark brown in color, with a reddish tint through it, which I am hoping is not blood. I spoke to the vet; he said the previous medications were not strong enough. Back to the vet and 0 later, in addition to taking blood to do a CBC (results in morning), a scraping of his behind and stool was taken. He also administered three injections, 1-B12, 1-antibodic and 1 Dex..., changed his meds to Ditrem and Sucralfate and his diet to K9 I/D canned dog food.
Notorious is also losing weight at a rate of 1lb a day and as soon as I can get a sample, his stool will be tested.
My question is does anyone have any ideal what could possibly be wrong. I am hoping for the best but I want to prepare for the worst when he calls tomorrow with the results. Have any of you experienced any thing of this nature? If so, what is it and what would cause it.
Thank you in advance.
-
ANSWER:
I'm not too sure that the gas from his rear end would irritate his eyes as the vet tech above suggested!!!If I read your question correctly - nor did he have any surgery where the intubation would have caused problems.
We have a dog in our kennel who has had a maroon color loose stool for a couple of weeks. We have had a full biochemistry done on his blood with no problems showing. We had a stool sample analyzed, again no problems found so we are at the same stage really.
He had not been on any medication at all before this problem but has since had antibiotics and an aggressive worming program to rule out any intestinal parasites (although he is regularly wormed...) but no change.
I wish you luck in finding a solution to your problem but sadly, cannot offer any possible cause because we're still searching for a cause for our own dog.

QUESTION:
Is this a good opening to a novel? hows the writing? any tips? Thanks so much I really appreciate this!....;,?
Chapter 1--The Eye of the BirdThe gentle evening clouds began forming on the western front, as a cold breeze flew past the man sitting on the edge of the forest. The man was particularly bundled up with his snowcap covering his eyes, a scarf his neck, and a thick blanket covering all of his neck down. The man was no fan of the winter, but he felt that dealing with the cold was a necessity to being out with nature, and the cold wasn’t too bad when all bundled up, except for the expoliates that laid naked to the wind. The man’s nose was bright red, and sensing, actually sensing nothing, the man pulled a hand from underneath the blanket to check to see if his nose was still there.
Peter Faust was the man who sat on the edge of the forest, and he stared out into the forest for hours, looking at all the wondrous trees and animals the forest had to offer. The leaves have all disappeared and snow has yet to fall this season, allowing Peter to gaze farther into the woods then he has ever been able too, yet he could see no end. The forest stretched as far as his imagination.
“Honey, are you ready to come inside? It’s getting dark.”
Peter turned around and saw his wife Rachel standing just outside their backdoor. She looked uncomfortable in the wind, waiting impatiently for a response from him, but Peter just stared back at his wife with a stupid glare. Eventually giving up Rachel walked back inside slamming the door behind her.
So many troubles have befallen Peter over the months, problems Peter can’t comprehend, but knows they are there. Previously Peter worked at a nearby university as a very renowned Professor of Philosophy. His co-workers revered him and the students crammed into his class to hear him speak. He had such fascinating ideas, in which he expressed them fluently with unbelievable clarity that made everyone of his students feel as if they just become enlightened after one of his classes. He eventually published a very popular book The Transcendentalist .
However, just over a year ago Peter got diagnosed with schizophrenia and some various other dementia problems that destroyed Peter’s ability to think. He used to be a philosopher, sitting for others, pondering the wonders of the world, now his mind is so drunk on drugs, making it impossible for him to have a continuous and complex thought processes. By the time he reached the end of a sentence, he already forgot what the beginning of the sentence was. And this made Peter terribly frustrated because he still remembers what it was like to run through ideas at a furious pace, exploring the thrill of new possibilities, but now his mind is paralyzed. He’s like a sick dog staring out the window, just wanting to play in the meadow.
In any other situation, his mind cannot even elevate itself to thinking what he wants to do tomorrow, but whenever he’s sitting and staring into the forest, a little blip on energy flickers in his mind. It’s like when somebody’s heart fails and the heart rate monitor has a straight continuous line with one drawn out beeeeep, but when some energy was applied to the heart, the continuous line breaks a little. This energy in terms to Peter was the forest. There was something that lured him that made him remember what it was like to wonder. Maybe it was the tall, endless tree that never ceased to occupy Peter’s attention because he jumped from tree to tree, staring at each one’s beauty and magnitude. Or maybe it was the countless animals he could see flying and jumping from tree to tree, or even the countless animals that he couldn’t see but made their presence known by their hoots and their hollers. Whatever it was there was something very powerful in this forest, so powerful that it created a spark in Peter’s dead brain.
Back when Peter had his health, he didn’t make so much as a glance to the woods behind his house, but now Peter would give anything to explore those woods. He can’t though due to his confinement to his wheelchair. To the end of the patio was as far as he could go, for the wheels would get stuck in the grass, and he dared not make Rachel angry by calling out to her for help. Nevertheless, he still wished he could just touch one of those trees.
Being too occupied staring into the forest, Peter failed to notice a raven circling him from above. Eventually it caught his eye, and he tilted his head back staring up into the epicenter of the bird’s perfect circular flight. A hundred feet up, Faust could barely make out the type of bird, but he knew it was a raven when it let out a horrifying screech. Curious, yet slightly unnverved at the evident interest the bird took in him, Peter began wheeling his chair backwards, which the bird took into account in its flight, never quitting its circular flight around Peter. Stunned by this, Peter watched the bird go around and around as if it was a fan blade twirling in an endless circle. Then for no reason it was off, flying headstrong into the forest.

ANSWER:
The first thing I look at when I write anything is the first sentence. The bulk of this sample is about Peter, not the forest, so the first sentence seems a bit out of place. I know you hint at the importance of the forest, and if the forest is a major theme/setting/symbol in the novel, then a first sentence that focuses on the forest may be appropriate. If the book focuses more on the man, though, I'd open with thoughts about Peter instead of the world around him.
Here you open with the wind, then discuss the weather front, then the man, the the forest. It makes Peter seem completely unimportant in the scope of the nature he's confronted with. Maybe that's what you're after? Those are my thoughts. It's really hard to judge a work by a few opening paragraphs, so all I could do is focus on the all important opening sentence.

QUESTION:
Parvo question?!?
Ok so my dog has parvo (verified by vet, I'm doing home care), and it's his 6th day, almost 7th. He seems to have more energy. He walks up to sniff around, and then sits back down. If I sit with him and then leave his side, he jumps up on the gate and cries a little bit. He drinks water on his own, and is able to keep it down, along with his medicine. He wags his tale, and even in his sleep while he is dreaming. Now a majority of the time instead of always laying he sits up a lot instead of laying. He pee's like every hour or 2 (still giving pedialite). His poop is now thicker. It was Dark Brownish/bloody the 3rd and 4th days. Yesterday it changed, It is now dark brown with no blood what soever in it (I examined it lol). The only prob I have is that when I feed him (he eats it himself), he throws up. And this is the ONLY time he throws up. Is that bad? I'm giving him a tbsp of canned I/d food mixed with little pieces of boiled chicken and potatoes. How can I get him to hold it down?
Oh ok...mine was from the shelter too! He came down with symptoms only 2 days after I got him! But I'm just concerned because he is so skinny! But I was told he can live over a week on just pediatlite.
Yes I do love my dog very much...I really hope he makes it through this.
Yes he is on anti-biotics...and about an hr or 2 later he threw it up, so I didn't want to give him more. And the I/D food is the food the vet gave me for him, its prescription food.
Thank u guys for ur answers...it really did help out. And thank you for kikeenono....it took ALOT. My body is taking a toll on me because I have barely been able sleep or eat because I sit by him all day and night to make sure he is ok.
Yes he is on Reglan for the vomiting. I probably will call tomorrow...they are closed right now. And I'll maybe just try giving him the I/D food without the chicken and potatoes next time. But the first time I offered it he didn't want to eat it, then I came back with the chicken and potatoes mixed in and then he ate it.
Grace I think u were right, but this time he actually ate it plain, before he wouldn't accept it without at least the chicken in it. I gave it to him and its been about 2 hrs and he hasn't thrown up! All the other times it came up between 10min-1 hr so to me its an improvement. At least if he throws up this time the nutrients have time to absorb and give him some energy...-
ANSWER:
Call your vet, it may be the antibiotics, or it may be the chicken or potato. I/d is supposed to be easy on the stomach, but it may even be that. Is he on any medication to treat vomiting currently? So long as his energy is up, you can withhold food until you speak to your vet tomorrow). You don't want him vomiting, for it will lead to dehydration (the pedialyte helps, but won't if it gets too bad)

QUESTION:
A short story..I think?
i whipped it up in about a half hour i was just bored on the computer, i didn't even bother to spell check. I'm up for criticism. i didn't start this knowing where it would go i was thinking up the next word as i typed it. so lemme know....She is "beauty", Inspiring things lately manifested deeply behind hate and fear. The type of woman you would hope dearly to glimpse on the hottest day of your month-long peril through a treacherous Sahara. Even if this is a mirage, I dare not move. Fearing the slightest disturbance of air would fright this wonder to flee. Out of breath panting i outreach..not thin air i grasp but a lush of delicate hair streams through my rough whithered hands. Soft spoken with a melodic voice that would leave any voice over actress in the dust. "Everything..everything you will ever need." the sky loosely wrenching rolling, lawling like a overjoyed tired out old dog. mountains dancing like the waves of some high sea, in your average day to day pirate ship story. "Today, is the day you find true love." again on this mirage, opening my mouth for words when all that spills out is choked up smoke. wishing i could say more, turning she didn't look back. Walking away she faded into what nobody can understand. to the impossible but not beyond reach. The sky now had begun convulsing like a drunk writhing in pain to hack up his microwave late-dinner. but now with the joy of the moment faded completely the ground stood still, the light of the blazing sun was no more. It was replaced with a vivid light shone dark red. the smell of fresh plastic. To my knees i fell. No strength left to carry on. I managed every ounce of energy my body kept in reserves for future well use. i looked at this wondrous sky, and let out the scream of my life. I could not hear myself only the sharp ring as if a high powered grenade had burst just out of lethal range. louder and louder. My trembling hands and broken joints, all tearing at my own body. then out from some warp of indefinite time and infinite space appeaared something so amazing i could not make up my mind if i was terrified or overjoyed. this creature of a man with a pig-snout bulls horns framing a face so twisted and gnarled it made me more naucious then this quivering sky. the best of hair which had to reach the mid back length on this thing. so huge it looked like three bulls and an assortment of 4 to 5 wild animals massed together. eyes reminiscent of a wolf, but rather they had feline quality and shimmer. the torso of a man legs of a black jaguar but stood vertically like a would-be human. no tail that was in sight. he wore what seemed to be clothes but they seemed to hover an inch above his skin rather then touch. i could not make out what the clothes looked like they seemed to be translucent and yet solid. Black. slowly walking toward me i realized i had hesitated to examine this thing too long, scratching all the nails from fingertips i clawed to my feet and began to run. running, the hardest i believe i have ever ran before. i wished i was in a movie and able to summon unearthly spped and make it all the way back to my lonely home. where i could go back to being alone. after what seemed to be thirty seconds i dared a look back, astonished the man-beast had brought himself to all fours sprinting like a cheetah he was a mere lunge from taking me. with a growl so horrible i would have surely needed another pair of boxers come the aftermath. he lunged and caught my right leg. i felt the cold rush of blood and the shock of a fresh wound. now on the ground the beast held me there. he began licking the wound with a tongue as long as a cow but thin and rough like an aged man.screaming i tried to kick which seemed only to anger the man and he left the wound to bleed on it's own. at my face this thing was looking me in the eye not six inches from my face. looking into me with those cat eyes, he had a stench about him the reminded me of a fresh batch of laundry mixed with the post-digested smell of mashed tacos. he said my name aloud. i dared not answer back. he began screaming. "Let go!" over and over "LET GO! LET GO!" fear as tight as a bears maw gripped me. i tried to wriggle free to no avail. "Let go!" his voice so deep and hateful. it now began to rise into harmony with another sound. something i could not identify. high pitched then soft then loud. i felt my whole body moving and bouncing. Closing my eyes hoping all of this would soon be over. i heard the noise of a shopping bag from a nice designer style clothes retail store. opening my eyes i was now awake in my room. bed spreads tossed and the mattress revealed by my apparent struggling, i was on the left edge of the bed in a cold sweat. Chloey had a hold of both my shoulders straddling me trying to bring back to reality. i struggled to grasp what had just happened. i looked around for the beast, the bag, the desert, anything to make sence of this. then i thought of the beautiful woman in the
something happened, i think it cut off the end of the story, is there a character limit for this section??
i'm going to try to find a different way to post it up here.-

You really need to break this up into readable paragraphs.I don't understand what it's about.

QUESTION:
5 month old puppy has diarrhea?
Last night I brought home a 5 month old american pit bull terrier from a private owners. I live about an hour and 10 minutes away from the owners house and I think she is a little nervous and lonely because her mother and sister are no longer with her. She has adjusted quite well, is a large ball of energy and loves people and other animals but this morning she started to have diarrhea. I think she may have suddenly changed new food because of the switch of homes and also I accidentally fed her approx. 5-10 treats throughout the course of a day that I found out were for adult dogs. After speaking with a vet on the phone she said that if the diarrhea is still there on monday that I should bring her in, I just want to know if there is anything else I can do to help calm her down and hopefully end the diarrhea as soon as possible, especially if I helped cause it with the treats. By the way, she threw up on the car ride home but not again since (I assume because it was dark out and she got car sick on the ride) Anyway any advice would be great...again everything seems normal, she's still eating and I'm making sure that whenever she evacuates that she drinks plenty of water to stay hydrated I'm just worried something might be wrong.
P.S. I also have been feeding her food with corn in it, and was told that can sometimes wreak havoc on a dogs intestines...I plan on purchasing a better food but I would like for her stomach problems to go away before properly transitioning her to another food brand.-
ANSWER:
Try mixing in some boiled white rice (or putting a slice of sweet potato) in her food (about 1/4 of the amount of her total meal intake). Starches help bind stool and prevent the runs. That always helps my pit mix and foster dogs who get diarrhea. But don't overdo it because you could end up with a constipated puppy.Steer clear of treats until the diarrhea has subsided for a few days. When the diarrhea stops, get hard treats that are corn free. I prefer Nutro (Natural Choice) treats because dogs love them (without causing diarrhea) and they help keep teeth clean.
I would also suggest switching her to Natural Balance food if you can. It's great for dogs with sensitive systems.
But she should definitely see your vet to rule out any pre-existing conditions that might have gone unnoticed or undiagnosed by her previous vet (it's always wise to take a new dog to the vet within the first week after adoption).
