Energy drinks have become increasingly popular, especially with teens and young adults, and more than 500 new energy drinks have launched worldwide last year. But experts are questioning whether people are harming their health by drinking them.
Most energy drinks are just marketing ploys, according to Mark Kantor, professor of family and consumer sciences and nutrition at the University of Maryland, who specializes in consumer education. “I'm not aware of any scientific data that they do what they say they're going to do," He said "They don't give you more energy." For the most part, they are nothing much more than a can full of caffeine and a lot of sugar.
Although herbal ingredients such as taurine and guarana, as well as vitamins and minerals are often added to make these energy drinks sound healthy, the amounts of natural ingredients found in them are usually so small, they make little difference.
Nutritionists warn that these drinks contain excessively high amounts of caffeine and sugar, which can hook kids on an unhealthy jolt-and-crash cycle. The caffeine comes from multiple sources, making it hard to tell how much the drinks contain.
The caffeine in energy drinks can give a temporary or false feeling of energy for a short period of time as it raises the blood pressure, but then the body goes through a dramatic drop in energy an hour or so later as the caffein and sugar leave the bloodstream, causing sluggishness, mood changes, and a burned out feeling.
Not only do energy drinks usually fail to offer a special boost, but their high caffeine and sugar content can cause extreme dehydration, and are considered by medical experts to be dangerous for the young and physically active. Caffeine will worsen insulin sensitivity, which is one of the major causes of diabetes and chronic illness. Other studies have shown that caffeine leads to heart problems. In addition to the caffeine overload, it's important to stay away from drinks spiked with sugars that raise your insulin levels, contributing to a host of modern diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
Energy drinks should not be used as thirst quenchers or as replenishing liquids when exercising. Energy drinks are not a suitable form of usable energy for the body, which needs good carbohydrates to perform well. When used before sports activities they actually hinder an athlete's performance by dehydrating the body faster and forcing the muscles to work harder. They slow the body's ability to absorb water, which is the last thing an athlete needs.
A few of the potential health risks and long term health challenges associated with energy drinks such as Red Bull include depression, heart health, diabetes, nervous system, poor sleeping habits, synthetic chemicals, effects of carbonation, additive behaviors, premature aging.
Energy drinks are even more dangerous when combined with alcohol, which is actually a very popular mixed drink with young people, but doctors warn that mixing such large doses of caffeine with alcohol is dangerous, especially for the heart.
Also, since alcohol already dehydrates a person, when it's mixed with energy drinks "double dehydration" can occur. The more dehydrated you are, the higher the blood level of alcohol, and the higher the danger. And the caffeine doesn't make a person less drunk, it just makes them feel more awake, which often falsely leads the person to think they are able to drive. And if that isn’t bad enough, energy drinks enhance hangovers because caffeine, like alcohol, is a diuretic and dehydrates the body.
Several countries, such as France and Denmark, have already banned the sales of energy drinks like Red Bull, following the deaths of several people who mixed the energy drink with alcohol.
On Vital Votes, nutrition coach Josh Rubin from San Marcos, California explains, "These drinks are a scam to get people to keep coming back. Americans are so ti 00004000 red that they actually need this stuff to live. When you eat sugar, gluten, etc. your body releases opiates. Then when you stop drinking this crap, you body craves it and you need more.”
Symptoms of caffeine overdose include nervousness, insomnia, heart palpitations, tremors, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, chest pain, and neurological symptoms. If an addicted person stops drinking caffeine, it is possible to suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as headache, fatigue, depressed mood and difficulty concentrating.
Many of us would love to have an increased energy boost occasionally, but it is important to realize that energy drinks are not the best way get that. It is far wiser to address the underlying reasons why you do not have as much energy as you would like. To increase your energy you need to live a healthy lifestyle including getting sleep, exercise and healthy food to fuel you body.

ANSWER:
hello there, it depends on how much you weigh, how much you drink, and how old you are, how good your kidneys are, how much water you drink and urinate. to be safe, i would wait for at least 12-24 hours to clear your caffeine out of your system. for many people, a lot of caffeine from coffee is still fine, while other people experience a huge effect of caffeine.best of luck

QUESTION:
Does any one have a good way to gain energy besides drinking caffeine or energy drinks.?
I wake up between 630-7:00 am and have the hardest time getting up. I take my son to school, go to work, pick him up, take him to practice, make dinner, finish homework and then do the things I NEED to do. i dont get to bed until 12:30-1 am sometimes. Im lucky if Im in bed by midnight. This life style has really taken a toll on how I look. I dont dress up anymore to get a little extra sleep in the morning but then I feel underdressed all the time. How do you mothers do it day in and dayout and look beautiful?
Any sugestions on how I get a morning boost instead of hittingt snooze?-
ANSWER:
Include more iron in your diet by eating leafy green vegetable such as spinache and red meat. Make sure you drinking at least 2 litres of water, this will make a really diffrence. Try to spend at least 30 mins each day outside, take your son to the park and enjoy the fresh air aswell as the sunshine which will produce vitamin D in your body. I would also recomend trying a floatation tank, an hour in one of these is the equivelkent of four hours sleep and will give your body a chance to heal and your mind to rest and re focus.

Amount of caffeine in energy drinks?
I've been searching for hours for that information, yet I cannot find it. I just want a simple plain table with the amount of caffeine these drinks have. Drinks like monster, burn or red bull. Coffee is about 70-100mg per cup. Coke is about 34 per can, just FYI.That's interesting, simple, should be in the internet, I mean, it's not just for porn and cats, right?... right?
Thank you.

QUESTION:
Having some issues with caffeine. When I drink coffee or energy drinks, i get very dizzy. Any ideas anyone?
It also makes my heart speed up at times. I drink regular soda all day long and it really does not affect me. Just with coffee and energy drinks. I am assuming they have more caffeine in them. I am also extremely tired all the time. Could the caffeine make me tired as well? Why does it make me dizzy? It just makes me feel horrible all of a sudden. I am 28 years old and have been drinking caffeine for as long as i remember. Any ideas anyone?-
ANSWER:
The following are excerpts from:CAFFEINE ALLERGY:
Past Disorder or Present Epidemic?
by Ruth Whalen, Medical Laboratory Technician"In allergic persons, each cup of coffee, cola, tea, every piece of chocolate, and any ingested caffeine products, intensifies toxic psychosis. Half-life increases. Subsequent doses, including minute amounts, act as a bolus. Cells are poisoned, including neurons."
"Toxicity is known to cause excitement, agitation, restlessness, shifting states of consciousness, and toxic psychosis, mimicking amphetamine psychosis. Allergic individuals may be erroneously diagnosed, medicated, and lost in a dark disturbed world, until death."
"CAFFEINE TOXICITY may also masquerade as schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. In 1925, Powers described nervousness, visual problems, and DIZZINESS, in patients he discovered suffered from caffeine toxicity."
"It's highly probable, that millions of consumers developed an allergy to caffeine, especially since availability and production increased rapidly mid- twentieth century. In which case, natural insights, and physical and mental health, have been sacrificed to chronic toxicity, resulting in organic brain, silently posing as ADD, ADHD, anxiety, BPD, depression, OCD, panic, and schizophrenia. Physical ailments resemble amphetamine poisoning, and include drug eruptions, masquerading as "rosacea.'"

QUESTION:
Why is it that I can't have coffee, soft drinks, or energy drinks because of the caffeine but I can have tea?
I can't have coffee, soft drinks with caffeine (like Mountain Dew and Coke), or energy drinks even in small doses because I have a bladder condition resulting from a caffeine overload when I was a little kid, but I can consume tea and chocolate in large amounts without adverse effects.
Is all caffeine the same? Does a large amount of tea and chocolate still not add up to even a very small dose of coffee?
adam_bomb: To stay away from caffeine is doctor's orders.-
ANSWER:
As someone else pointed out, yes Tea is natural... but so is coffee. So being natural has nothing to do with it. Chocolate has an almost negligible amount of caffeine, therefore it's not even worth comparing to the others you've mentioned. The tea, however, stacks up pretty close to most soft drinks. The caffeine content of tea is going to depend on the kind of tea (black being highest and white being lowest of the caffeinated teas) and the steeping time. Caffeine may not be the real issue here, it could very well be sugar or acid conent. Again, depending on the kind of tea you're talking about... The drinks you mention that you can't have are all pretty high in acidity. How do you know that you can't have those things but can have tea? Is this doctors orders or personal experience?

QUESTION:
Is the caffeine in guarana listed in the caffeine information on energy drinks?
I'm doing some research on the dangers of energy drinks. I came across a fact that guarana, often found in energy drinks, is very high in caffeine. Apparently, guarana seeds contain more caffeine than coffee beans. Monster and Rockstar both have 160mg of caffeine per can. Just wondering, does that number include the caffeine found in guarana?-
ANSWER:
yes. guarana is a substance that has high levels of caffeine, but it is included in the caffeine content of the drink. I think guarana is about 20 percent caffeine, so 100 mg of guarana yields maybe 20 mg of caffeine.

QUESTION:
Why don't energy drinks or caffeine pills affect me?
I can drink an energy drink, any kind, and size, and it doesn't do anything for me. I still feel just as tired and sleepy as before. I drink coffee, sodas, or take caffeine pills in small or large amounts, and it doesn't do anything! What's the matter?-
ANSWER:
My personal experience is that the more caffeine you have in your system already the less effective caffeine stimulants are.For example if I drink coffee regularly after time it has no effect unless I start taking double the quantity.
Alternatively if I don't drink coffee for a prolonged period – and allow the caffeine levels in my body go down – then if I return to it again I really feel the stimulation.
So my advice – since forever increasing your dosage isn't safe – is try not taking any coffee, soda or caffeine pills for a long time (at least 6 months) and then if you go back to them you'll feel the boost again.
However at first going cold turkey like this probably won't be easy.

QUESTION:
How do I measure caffeine in energy drinks.?
its for a science project
i need to compare it to see if the commercial are correct like in 5 hour energy, if they say they're do everything they say they will
i mean like actual measurement not just looking at the can...-
ANSWER:
You need to carry out a chemical analysis of the soft drink. The analytical method most commonly used is a separation technique, HPLC (High Pressure Liquid Chromatography). HPLC involves pumping a sample of the drink through a column containing a solid stationary phase. The interaction of the constituents of the drink with the pumping liquid (the mobile phase) and the stationary phase causes the constituents of the drink to be pumped through the column at different rates and effectively to be separated. The caffeine can then be measured using a detector. This detector usually consists of a source of UV light and a UV detector so as the caffeine passes through the detector it absorbs UV light and hence the concentration can be measured.
HPLC is a very useful technique. It is used for the detection and measurement of drugs in urine. Both performance enhancing and recreational drugs can be measured in this way.
Reference (1) below is about HPLC. Reference (2) is a method specific to the determination of caffeine in soft drinks.

QUESTION:
I'm trying to not rely on caffeine or energy drinks to stay awake. Help!?
I thought quitting coffee in October would be enough, but obviously not. How can I kick my tea and energy drink habit to the curb but still finish projects without getting tired?I tried multivitamins, sleeping earlier, supplements, you name it. I think my body is so used to the high doses of caffeine it won't respond without it.
Any testimonials or advice? Thanks!

ANSWER:
True story. I had been drinking 4 cups a day. When I had exams, it was over 8 cups. I started shaking sometimes and I tried to cut back but I started having withdrawals. The only thing that helped me was eating better. I started eating a lot more fish and taking the fish oil at night. It helped me to get to sleep after I was jazzed up. I now use exercise to boost my energy when I need it. Something as simple as jumping and doing sit-ups for a half an hour. There's a diet and exercise plan on the site in the Source box below. I only used part of it (I have my own weights for the lifting) but it does help a lot.
The link for the fish oil benefit is http://www.collectivewizdom.com/FishOil

QUESTION:
How Come Energy Drinks dont Work on me?
Whenever I drink caffeine or an energy drink it doesn't affect me. I don't get hyper or crash if i have an energy drink or caffeine. For example my friend wanted me to drink a 5 hour energy drink because he had one and said it was like bombs going off in his head. I buy the drink and drink the whole thing. After 1 hour nothing happens to me. I don't feel hyper, excited or like "bombs going off in my head."-

Because they don't work for anybody. You are just one of the few that doesn't "pretend" to get hyper after drinking them.

QUESTION:
How safe do you think energy drinks are?
The levels of caffeine in energy drinks are exorbitant, and since caffeine is technically classified as a soft drug, it is possible that one truly can become dependent on the drink to get them through the day. Even when taken in moderation, energy drinks only offer a short-lived rush, and after this buzz many people crash and burn. It all makes me a little uneasy. What are your thoughts?-
ANSWER:
They're decent if you absolutely need some energy (hard physical labor, driving for hours on end, that sort of thing). They have mad amounts of high fructose corn syrup, and they're actually pretty fattening in that right. They're also more acidic than soda and are terrible for your oral health (think eroding your enamel bad). They're, at best, a last ditch effort for energy. Caffeine pills wouldn't be as bad in the long run.

QUESTION:
what is the procedure in determining caffeine content in energy drinks?-
ANSWER:
Caffeine has a Molecular Formula C8H 10N4O2 and a
Molecular weight 194.19. It has a chemical name 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.Properties : soft, white crystal or powder. Non smell. Taste is slightly bitter.
Melting point : 235-238cIonization Constant@pKa : 0.6; 14.0
Solubility
Chloroform : easily solubleWater, Ethanol : partially soluble
Ether anhydride : hardly soluble
Using its solubility properties, caffeine is suitably analyzed and quantified in energy drinks by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
What is HPLC anyway?
High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is a chemistry based tool for quantifying and analyzing mixtures of chemical compounds.
High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a form of column chromatography used frequently in biochemistry and analytical chemistry. It is also sometimes referred to as high-pressure liquid chromatography. HPLC is used to separate components of a mixture by using a variety of chemical interactions between the substance being analyzed (analyte) and the chromatography column. The basic operating principle of HPLC is to force the analyte through a column of the stationary phase (usually a tube packed with small spherical particles with a certain surface chemistry) by pumping a liquid (mobile phase) at high pressure through the column. The sample to be analyzed is introduced in small volume to the stream of mobile phase and is retarded by specific chemical or physical interactions with the stationary phase as it traverses the length of the column. The amount of retardation depends on the nature of the analyte, stationary phase and mobile phase composition. The time at which a specific analyte elutes (comes out of the end of the column) is called the retention time and is considered a reasonably unique identifying characteristic of a given analyte. The use of pressure increases the linear velocity (speed) giving the components less time to diffuse within the column, leading to improved resolution in the resulting chromatogram. Common solvents used include any miscible combinations of water or various organic liquids (the most common are methanol and acetonitrile). Water may contain buffers or salts to assist in the separation of the analyte components, or compounds such as Trifluoroacetic acid which acts as an ion pairing agent.

QUESTION:
Sober drinking? What's up with these energy drinks and hard liquor?
I work in a booze store. I get scared by peop;e who by cases of energy drinks and gallons of booze. They come in stumbling, but are very hyper. I see a trend in many people that is very scarey. They get absolutly drunk enough to not be coordinated, yet, they are so hyped up on energy drinks, fake health drinks, caffeine, and drink all over our roads. Not that this lifestyle has anything to do with it, but most of them have sickening peircings and permainent tatoos. Also, a recent scientigfic study showed a connection between new comebacks of many old viruses in a group of people who got multiple tatoos and many peircings. All those needles and holes in a body only ads to a great risk of getting infections, viruses, and more illness. Anyone agree? Are a lot of sober drinkers like time bombs in our world? Why do they comsume so much booze and think they can function normally using caffeinated energy drinks? They think very for "right now" and care less about tommorow. People are sick!-
ANSWER:
not sure if this is a question, or just a passing of judgment on your part. but lots of different types of people drink, i worked in a bar where construction workers would go in for their lunch breaks and get sloshed, then go back to work, so basically it's not a certain group of people that have no regard for other people and the dangers that they are imposing on themselves and others. and yes some people are sick, but not just certain groups of people, they're individually sick not based on lifestyle choices regarding appearances. but in response to your energy drinks and liquor question, that can be dangerous. it's mixing an upper with a downer and sometimes your body can't handle the combo. but i don't know about tattoos and piercing causing a resurgence of old viruses and illness. maybe if they're dirty places, but most places use sterile equipment, and new needles and such.

QUESTION:
What are some effects caffeine (pills, energy drinks, ect...) can have on the body?
I'm not really of the hard core energy drink or pill group, but I'm trying to write a short piece about a girl and her best friend. In short he's a recovering drug addict after nearly dying of an overdose, she's taking caffeine pills and drinking energy drinks like a fiend to try and keep up with her responsibilities and school work. He think that she should stop, but she insists that they're not drugs and that she'll be fine. She continues this habit until she starts having long lasting affect that she cant ignore, she permanently damages her heart or dies. Or something of that nature..It was going pretty well until I hit a snag. Is that even possible? I've researched some, but what I read was fairly fuzzy and unclear.
What are some of the short term and long term effects of caffeine abuse?
what are some problems caffeine can have on the heart? Other organs or organ systems?
How long do you normally have to abuse caffeine to get permanent damage?
can excessive caffeine use lead to certain heart conditions? Problems with the brain?
What are some symptoms to caffeine overdose?
What are some symptoms of caffeine withdrawal? Also, if you could give me extra information beyond my questions that could make my piece more realistic would greatly appreciated.

ANSWER:
I know people who practically LIVE on caffeine with no known side effects (my 50 year old husband being one of them). I am sure caffeine supplements are about the same as it is just caffeine, although in more concentrated amounts. I have a problem sleeping if I drink caffeine late in the evenings and will even wake up wide eyed after a couple of hours of dead sleep. Years ago, when I worked third shifts, I would drink so much that my eyeballs would be jerking in my head and my heart would race up and down. I would be "wired" for several hours so I had a hard time going to sleep when I got home. The only side effect I had was when I found a lump in my breast several years ago and was told that they were cysts and were most likely caused by caffeine consumption, so I weaned myself off of the OD on caffeine and the cysts went away. I tried to go "cold turkey" from caffeine and ended up with severe headaches so I just slowly weaned myself down from several coffees, several soft drinks and ice teas a day to just two or three.
The only problem I can see your character having is severe stress from not sleeping/resting well. On a side note, I know from experience that the feelings of severe sleep deprivation, if it will help. Mine was "fuzzy head" feeling even to the point of a buzzing in your head. My face will get numb, I cannot concentrate. I stutter when I talk, shaky and nervous and I have even had hallucinations from it. Dry eyes, dry mouth (probably from the caffeine).
Yes caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant which means it will cause heart palpitations, dry mouth, nervousness and other effects.

QUESTION:
Whats in Energy Drinks and How are they Different than pure Caffeine?
I always get the jitters from energy drinks but not from coffee. It could be the increased dose vs that from coffee but I doubt that. What do you think? What is in energy drinks that make them different than pure Caffeine?-
ANSWER:
Energy drinks, compared with caffeine alone, is a combination of sugars, water, taurine, etc.
Energy drinks also contain caffeine to heighten the alertness of a person for quite a while. Caffeine, as in the case of coffee, is enough to keep you awake for approx. 4 hours without sugar.
-
-
QUESTION:
Is the caffeine in coffee and energy drinks different from that in soda?-
ANSWER:
Actually, while caffeine is caffeine, the source may be different. Coffee produces it's own naturally, of course, while the caffeine in some teas and energy drinks is introduced into them -- but not from caffeine extracted from coffee. From Wikipedia:"Other, less commonly used, sources of caffeine include the yerba mate and guaraná plants, which are sometimes used in the preparation of teas and energy drinks. Caffeine is also a common ingredient of soft drinks such as cola, originally prepared from kola nuts."
How much caffeine is in it? Again, from Wikipedia:
"Equivalents: One 200 milligram caffeine pill / One and a half pounds of milk chocolate / Two 8 fluid ounce containers of regular coffee / Three standard Excedrin pills / Three 8 fluid ounce cups of Red Bull energy drink / Four 8 fluid ounce cups of Vault energy drink / Two and a half 10 oz. bottles of Bawls caffeinated drink / Five 1 fluid ounce shots of espresso from robusta beans / Five 8 fluid ounce cups of black tea / Five 8 fluid ounce cups of Mountain Dew / Five 12 fluid ounce cans of typical soda pop (variable) / Eight and a half 8 fluid ounce cups of Coca-Cola Classic / Ten 8 fluid ounce cups of green tea / Fifty 8 fluid ounce cups of decaffeinated coffee"
Drink up!!!

QUESTION:
Is There A Legal Limit Of Caffeine In Energy Drinks?
Today I purchased an energy drink which contains 53 mg of caffeine / 100 ml. The can was a 355 ml can meaning that there was an astonishing approx 185 mg of caffeine in one can. The most amount of caffeine I've ever seen in a can is 32 mg / 100 ml and that is in Red Bull and Relentless. Can anyone shed any light on whether this is actually legal or not? And if there is an upper limit of caffeine / liquid ratio?
-
ANSWER:
Legal, yes. Healthy, no.
Take 5 hour energy for example:
Taurine, Caffeine mainly, but 8333% of your daily allowance of B12, 1600% of B6 as well.
And that's in a 2oz bottle...
The amino acids in the 2oz bottle contain a suspected 60-100mg of caffeine. That being said, you may as well get a syringe and shoot morphine for about the same effect.

QUESTION:
Is being immune to energy drinks and caffeine an issue?
Growing up I hated pepsi, coke, and mountain dew and adored root beer which essentially meant I rarely if ever had any caffeine (other than chocolate =P). I would even get milk-based frappuchinos when I ventured into a starbucks. Senior year of high school I took two caffeine pills (not sure what brand/kind) and got sick, lol. Also in senior year I developed migraines and my doctor told me that a quick helper was caffeine, so I switched from root beer to Dr. Pepper about a handful of times a month when I felt a migraine coming on. I still don't drink any other type of caffeine and never any energy drinks. However, this past semester for finals I finally tried a 5-hr energy drink and coffee and I felt nothing. My bf is a lot bigger than me and always gets hyped up from the same-size drinks. What's up with that? I mean I don't really care that it has no effect but is it a vitamin issue or something wrong with me? I am quite sure that I have not developed a tolerance to caffeine and as it made me sick in HS I know that it does something to me, but why so slight? Sheesh, I'm tiny and drank a large coffee from mcdonalds today and fell asleep five min after downing it, whereas my bf, a foot taller than me, drank his coffee from mickey d's and is STILL talking non-stop, lol.
Any ideas?-
ANSWER:
you might want to rethink your statement about not having caffeine as some root beers do contain caffeine.
Barqs is one of them.
Also, your doctor is an idiot as caffeine is one of those things that can set off migraines and is typically not reccommended for migraine sufferers.
One cup of coffee or 1 regular strength 45 hour energy drink(they have the same amount of caffeine) is not enough to "feel' anything.
You really don't feel a huge change in yourself when drinking 1 coffee.
It takes about 20 minutes for caffeine to effect you and lots of people drink coffee before going to bed as it doesn't bother them. Some drink it before going to bed because they will wake up wide awake.
Rather than you being unsensitive to caffeine, it sounds more like your boyfriend is super sensitive to caffeine.

QUESTION:
Can energy drinks/high caffeine beverages cause shoulder pain?
I used to drink a lot of energy drinks, but I kicked them cold turkey ages ago after I had bad shoulder pain one night and wondered if there was a link.I had a Starbucks energy drink today at 4:00 PM (I thought it was just a coffee beverage in a can) and by 7:00 PM my shoulder started aching. It's 9:10 PM and it is still causing a lot of discomfort.
I am wondering if energy drinks, or anything high in caffeine, can cause this? My doctor thinks I may also have costochondritis if that means anything.
I'm also pretty out of shape (5 foot 8 inches, 200 pounds) but am currently losing weight.
Also I rarely ever drink anything that is high in caffeine or sugar as part of my weight loss plan. Could I have built up an intolerance or something from not drinking anything like it for a long time?-

QUESTION:
Can you concentrate the caffeine in an energy drink by boiling it?
My friends and I always get Tab energy drinks for our sleepovers, it's become sort of a tradition. But being our adventurous selves, we wanted to try something else, something stronger.. I looked up all the strongest drinks, like Cocaine and WiredX294, but none are available here in Canada
I live in the middle of nowhere, all I have access to is Tab, Red Bull, Full Throttle and Rockstar... So we were wondering, is it possible to boil Tab or Red Bull until some of the water evaporates to make it more concentrated? Most importantly, will the caffeine disappear when boiled, like alcohol does for example?-
ANSWER:
I'm not sure if that would work...but drinking energy drinks all the time is not good.

QUESTION:
Is there a drink that tastes like an energy drink but with no caffeine?
My body hates caffeine, if I drink it, that night I won't be able to fall asleep until really late at night, and if I drink enough (Even half of a can) I get headaches. However, I LOVE the taste of them. Anyone know of any drinks that taste similar to monster, rockstar, etc., but have no caffeine, or very low amounts of it? I should add that sugar's fine, the more the better in my opinion.-
ANSWER:
I am not sure what you mean by taste like an energy drink. There are a lot of different ones out thereXS Energy has 3 caffeine free versions. Other reasons why you might want to try them are. They are healthy energy drinks. They taste better than anything else on the market. They also have a 100% guarnatee.
Even the regular XS drinks are healthy and taste great. 0 sugar, 0 carbs, 8 calories, low sodium, and for your choice 0 caffeine. 13 total varieties gives us the most. With all of the benefits mentioned it is no wonder why we are the 2nd largest selling behind Red Bull and the fastest growing.
Ask me for them.

QUESTION:
in energy drinks, what gives the energy, the kilojules or caffeine?
for example, if the caffeine content is the same, does a sugarfree energy drink with less kilojoules have less energy than an enregy drink that isnt sugarfree??
or do they have the same energy because the caffeine is the same??-
ANSWER:
so im guessing Kilojules...are Calories...calories really have nothing to do with energy...its just a form of measuring how much your food/beverage intake a day is.what gives you energy is:
Vitamins.....a,b,c
Caffeine(not really its a drug that trix your brain)
Ginseng
Taurine
CarnitineBTW BECAREFUL dont drink energy drinks all the time!
and if you do drink lots of water with them!
to much Vitamin C causes you to get Kidney Stones...ITS NOT FUN! so drink as much water as you can when you drink energy drinks.

QUESTION:
Why do iget dizzy with a headache , after drinking a high caffeine energy drink?
It is high in caffeine and B vitamins. I know that caffeine in high doses gives me headaches and makes me feel a little fever-ish , but why can other people's bodies tolerate this more than mine, what's the difference?I mean , my sister can drink 2 energy drinks in a row and not have any side affects, but if i drink 2 , in the same day ( not in a row) i get a migraine for the rest of the day and have to lay down .
I rarely have these drinks , maybe once a month , but i would love to know why caffeine does this to me .
I don't have diabetes , but i do have an underactive thyroid , maybe that has something to do with it . oh yeah i forgot about the high sugar levels hehe, but i have the same affects when i drink green tea in high doses , like 8 cups per day , it has zero sugar , and some caffeine.
I thought it was dehydration , but i drink a lot of water throughtout the day , 4 litres on average-
ANSWER:
like the other person said, it's not caffene but rather the sugar in the drink. Your sugar level goes high. The reason your sister's sugar level doesn't go high like yours is because your more insulin resistant and your sister isn't.

QUESTION:
2 questions regarding Energy Drinks?
1. Which has more caffeine Energy Drinks or Coffee ???2. Do you have to be 18 to buy Energy Drinks?
I live in the UK and got asked I.D when buying Relentless, but then went to corner shop and bought, they didnt ask for I.D or anything
Thanks !!!!
-
ANSWER:
No energy drinks do not have more caffeine than coffee. They have 80mg - 84mg per serving. Coffee starts at 85mg and up.Energy drinks are not designed for kids. That is all many people know. So some stores and some tellers will not sell to kids. However, the makers normally refer to kids 12 and under with those statements. Teens are OK but I do fell better if parents know myself.
Ask the teller or store about it. Some may be doing it on their own and some may be doing it because some parents may have approached them and asked them to not sell to kids.

QUESTION:
We want to make an experiment with energy drinks. Can you help?
So, we are two 15 year old girls, we've always been interested in how human body works. So, kids in our school, and friends from other schools drink energy drinks all the time, and when we tell them all the bad things about them, they just say: yeah right.
So, this gave us idea, to test energy drinks on ourselves, write down everything, and basically, do a research paper on it.
I do lots of sports, I eat very healthy, and I'm a sucker for a healthy lifestyle, I'm also 100% straight edge. My friend lives in the country (I used to live there too, but I moved to the city a year ago), she eats healthy too, and she does lots of work outside, so basically, we're both very healthy. (wow, i used the word healthy a lot.)
Our point is to drink a certain amount of high caffeine energy drinks (like Red Bull, Battery, Euphoria or DYNAMI:T blue), but leave our other eating and living habits the same. We test, how do energy drinks affect our everyday life, and ofcourse, blood pressure, and emotions, etc etc. After the experiment we'll just slowly ecrease the amount of caffeine we use, then stop it and live happily ever after!
Ofcourse we'll consult our doctors before the test, and during (to prevent serious health issues)
So my questions are:
How long should the experiment last. A month? more?
Can we maybe write a project or something, to get money for the experiment, or should we do it with our own budget?
How much should we drink a day (how many mg/100ml)?
What should we write down every day (blood pressure, feelings, sleep, something more)?
What will we risk with? Can our growth stop (even know, I'm 169cm and she's 177cm, and its normal), and what other things can go wrong? We're teenagers, and I know large amounts of energy drinks can really mess us up.Or shouldn't we do it at all? We know alot about energy drinks, and what they have in them, and we will do lots of research before the experiment too, and if our doctor says it's enough, we'll just leave it there, and quit.
And no, we dont want to wait until we're adults, they usually do stuff like that. Our point is to see the effects on TEENAGERS. Adults body works completely different.
Thank you!-
ANSWER:
Make it a research project and not a personal one.
Begin by writing down all the things in the drinks , and finding out why they are there.
sugar-energy
color?
flavor
caffeine
salts
vitamins
minerals
protein
preservatives
You could include a section on observations after you know what is there and how it effects the body. Yes there are changes in heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, feelings, after feelings and etc.Adult bodies are not that different from teenage.

QUESTION:
Caffeine amount in energy drinks the "total" amount?
I was drinking a rockstar zero carb the other day
http://www.rockstar69.com/productIngredients.php?pdt=3
and i saw that a serving (half the can) has 120mg caffeine. Does that include the caffeine from green tea and yerba mate or is it extra?-
ANSWER:
That is the total of all the ingredients in the can. That's the law. They submit the total mixture/recipe to a lab and they break it down and the label goes on the can.
It's always the "total" in all labeled products.Let me add "per serving" is legal also.
You can have a 12 ounce can with 150mg's of caffeine
and a single serving can be marked
"single serving=6oz. 75mg. caffeine etc etc.
It's just to downplay how much is in there.
But it's legal.

QUESTION:
Taurine is found in many energy drinks. Is it a stimulant like caffeine? What foods have taurine in them?
does anyone know what is a good suggested daily amount of taurine? The web has much conflicting info on taurine, but if anyone knows answers to my questions, I appreciate it.-
ANSWER:
There is currently no suggested daily amount to be taken of Taurine by the FDA. The probable reason for this is because there is not enough research on this drug to prove of any known advantages to our health. But that is not to say that there are not 'suggested advantages'. The main statement I have heard of the benefits of inducing Taurine, is that related to height issues. Many claim that a daily dose of Taurine 'may', may being the key word, help your body to grow much more than it would without the drug in your system. But there is no information to prove this statement true. I have a bottleof Taurine with me right now, and on there is no information on the bottle regarding benefits; all it says is 'amino acid supplement'. So Taurine may have some sort of dealing with muscle growth. But this I do not know. I wish I could tell you more, but little is known about Taurine as it is.

QUESTION:
What is a good slogan against energy drinks?
Energy drinks are pretty bad for your teeth. They create a low pH in the mouth (acidic), and they can have tons of sugar. Over time and with regular usage cavities can form. Also, the amount of caffeine in the drinks can lead to dependence (like any caffeinated product). I'm looking for a catchy slogan to use in a campaign to increase awareness of the effects energy drinks can have on teeth.-
ANSWER:
Here are some articles that discuss the details of slogan writing. Why certain slogans work and why some don't. You will find these helpful in writing a new slogan.A Look at Slogans - http://www.small-business-software.net/look-at-slogans.htm
