      Otherwise, i suggest you try some energy shots if you want it for the hit, 2 of them are Jolt Endurance and 5 hour energy. If you want it as a drink with the hit, like a Red Bull, some you may not know but are highly available in USA are Rockstar, Amped, Jolt Cola etc. but some exotic ones (the ones you want) are Battery, Blue Storm, Nerd, Crunk and No fear.       coke, pepsi, etc are dark sodas= bad, bad, bad too much sugar (carmalized sugar gives it dark coloring) mountain dew is next (but it's sorta clear you say) still bad. A 12 oz can of dew has the equivalent of eating over a cup (10oz) of plain sugar. if you drink two 24 packs in a week, you have consumed a 5 pound bag of sugar. it takes the human liver three days to produce enough enzyme to break down a garin of sugar to remove it from the body. while we are on the topic of sugar, real pure sugar is soft and brown and moist like (organic), the white kind (which is used in 99.9% of all things) is so refined and bleached it is like a sweet version of crystal meth. it becomes a rock essentially. it is then that it takes the liver so much time to remove it from the body. And while it is being broken down and removed, the excess sugars and carbs we consume are stored for later use and removal, thus we become tired, sluggish, diabetic, and overweight.

      light sodas like sprite and 7up, ginger ale, etc are still bad (too much sugar again) but are better for you than the dark sodas.

      diet soda? well, these contain artificial sweeteners that slowly cause various ilnesses. we have all heard that equal, sweet -n- low, etc help cause cancer, but most diet sodas contain aspartame. this ingredient is the main chemical used in enbalming fluid (sweetens and preserves). it can cause symptoms of MS. what about splenda? well, splenda was created in the 1970's with sucralose and was originally created as a pesticide. why would the FDA allow something like this? the FDA, the Goverment, the USDA and the corporate businesses, all have their hands in each others cookie jars so to speak. you know, you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours. it's all about the money. you've heard of the golden rule before right? well he who has the gold makes the rule. if they can get money out of it, they will sell you anything and tell you it is safe. I admit that I still drink sodas, but what can you do???

      You may try other weaker energy drinks. Actually I recommend ones that contain minerals, vitamins and amino acids. They rehydrate your body very well, give a lot energy but won't make you a monster. I tried many drinks like gatorade and poweraid, but those don't work well with me. I've heard of this new product Ziigzag I think, I'm not sure if they're still giving out free samples..But it tastes great, gives you lots of energy and hydrates you, no monster I promise:)..       Powerade is semi-good for you... the healthiest by far of any energy drink, so my brother told me... he's 24 and studies this type of stuff..... cuz i love powerade and he said it's semi good for you, def. gives you energy!!! i take a few sips before school, and i'm good to go!!     I noticed that a lot of the energy drinks that I consume will make me fall down into a bigger slump than I was before. I'm looking for a good energy drink brand and flavor that tastes enjoyable, and has a minimized or no crash effect once I drink it. I know the Five-Hour Energy thing probably works, but the supply of that is limited to only certain retailors. I want an actual energy drink that gives me a good boost and no crash.       since monster has alot of sugar in it, its not a good idea to drink it for about a couple weeks...i had my tongue pierced when i was 15, then had to have it redone again for my 19 birthday. both times, they told me that if i wanted to drink/eat anything with sugar, i had to rinse with mouthwash right afterwards. as long as you always rinse afterwards, you should be good. lol i got tired of rinsing so much, i lived on sugar free jello for a week or two.

      Edit- These are the two energy drinks I know of that are vegan for sure. They also have the distinction of being free of artificial sweeteners or added sugars like sucrose and corn syrup.

      Sobe and Nestea make energy drinks that don't contain any colorings or by-products from animals( to my knowlege) but they are potentionally bad for you because the Nestea contains aspartame and the Sobe contains 3 or four types of sugar.

      In addition to drinking energy drinks you can always opt for green tea, emergen-c or mate.

But I am wondering what makes an energy drink different from soda they are both flavored carbonated beverages? Do energy drinks have to have a minimum level of caffeine or other chemicals? What would the legal classification be (I know some health groups advocate age limits for energy drink purchases)? So what exactly is an energy drink that makes it different from other caffeinated carbonated drinks?

      Well that would be hard to do because you will not notice a significant difference and there is a lot of outside things that could affect results of that. I would compare the ingredients, especially the smaller ones, how much of what is used, the caffeine content, the sugar content, things like that.
