  2. QUESTION:
what are the dangers of taking lorazapam and monster energy drink?
I was told that while taking lorazapam you shouldn't drink monster energy drinks is this true? what are the dangers of mixing the two?

    • ANSWER:
Lorazapam is generally used to treat anxiety. It falls into a class of drugs called benzodiazepines, like valium, xanax and others . The problem with benzos is that it is easy to get addicted to them. Often you have to keep increasing the dosage for the drug to work. I speak from experience, since I have been addicted to a benzo called klonopin for many years. If you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorazepam you will see:

"Long-term effects of benzodiazepines include tolerance, dependence, a benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome and cognitive impairments which may not completely reverse after cessation of treatment; however, for most patients, cognitive impairment is not severe. Withdrawal symptoms can range from anxiety and insomnia to seizures and psychosis. Due to tolerance and dependence, lorazepam is recommended for short-term use, 2–4 weeks only."

While lorazepam and the other benzos tend to relax people, the monster energy drink is mostly caffeine, sugar and other ingredients that are designed to stimulate you. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/601415/monster_energy_drinks_unleashing_an.html?cat=51

So lorazepam is trying to relax you, and the monster drink is stimulating you. The two taken together will probably cancel each out. One drug is trying to calm you down, while the other drug is trying to speed you up.

  8. QUESTION:
what are the dangers of energy drinks?
i love AMP energy....but if i drink it a lot what can happen to me because i know there is a lot of talk about energy drinks being pretty bad

    • ANSWER:
      Severe dehydration.

Energy drinks and other water substitutes that have sugar, caffeine, carbonation and other chemical additives act like diuretics that pull out more water than they contain - as much as 50% more. This results in dehydration.

There are trillions of cells in the body that need vital nutrients to function properly. Water is the delivery system for these nutrients, and salt (combined with the water) removes the toxins from the cells. Without adequate water and salt, the body will turn acidic - the breeding ground for disease.

Dehydration prevents the cells from receiving the nutrients they need. Because there are trillions of cells, we don't notice the change until suddenly a severe health problem such as high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, heart failure and other conditions develop. By then, it's a matter of trying to correct the problem. Medications don't cure, they only hide the symptoms - while the dehydration continues to worsen.

Drinking plain water instead of energy drinks, soft drinks and others will prevent health problems.

  10. QUESTION:
whats the full dangers of 5 hour energy drink?

    • ANSWER:
It is about an overdose of vitamin B6. When too much of this vitamin makes its way into the body, then there are high chances that the user may be hit with nerve toxicity or paralysis. However, this does not happen just out of the blue. One has to drink about 5 bottles of this drink to invite such troubles.
When we come to the question, "Is 5 hour energy safe for you?", we cannot just ignore the importance to tell the users about caffeine. What harm can too much caffeine do to the body? Too much of this substance does not take long to throw the person into fits of involuntary shaking, vomiting, nausea, panic attacks, irregular heart beat and even disorientation. As if these 5 hour energy side effects were not enough, the user may also suffer from diarrhea, headaches, dehydration and in some cases, gastrointestinal pain. So all these side effects may answer your question

  11. QUESTION:
What are the dangers of drinking red bu (energy drinks)?
Does it still cause harm if you drink it in moderation

    • ANSWER:
No, as far as research goes there are no long term effects of drinking energy drinks regularly. It's only a bit dangerous if you drink a lot in one sitting which is generally any more than 1 - 2 cans of any energy drink.

It can be harmful because of how big the energy hit is on the body, it gets too hyped up with sugar and caffeine and then the nerves move too quickly and can get damaged. And of course if you drink too many you will probably be sick and/or pass out which is also very bad.

But if you drink them in moderation and no more than 1 - 2 a day you should be fine, but know your limits and if you think you feel a bit sick even after 1 then don't bother drinking any more.

  16. QUESTION:
    Dangers of Monster energy drink?
I traded a friend a old yu gi oh card that i had under my bed from when I was 10 for a Monster Hitman shot. After I drank it to help me focus in math, he told me it was 1 year old. Later, my mom noticed this weird...swelling or lump on the right side of my neck. It's not painful or anything, in fact, I wouldn't have noticed if she hadn't told me. I may have already had it before but I doubt it. I haven't been bit by a bug or hit there. The only thing I had and still have are these weird whitespots probbally due to my lack of veggies (I puke violently after eating them for some reason). Could it be from the Monster? My mom's taking me to the doctor in a few days to check it out, as she learned that if we wait it could be like my old infection that I got around age 9. I'm almost 17 FYI and a male if that helps. I know kid's under 15 or so shouldn't have ED's. I never have energy drinks either. It's pretty rare for me. I usually stick with some caffeinated soda to help me.

    • ANSWER:
I drink monster daily, and I've drunken month old monster before. I doubt that has anything to do with it, the bump was most likely there before. If not- It may have been an allergic reaction of some sort.
      Best of luck

  17. QUESTION:
    The dangers of Energy drinks?
Hi ive recently taken a likening to the latest energy drink called "Samedi" you may have heard of it. Its very powerful and large in size but apparently energy drinks are really bad for you. Can you guys tell me the affects and dangers they have? Thanks..

PS: Can they make you put on wieght?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

The danger of energy drinks is mostly from the caffeine and sugar content. The effects of too much sugar is obvious--weight gain, lack of nutrition, and tooth decay.

As for the caffeine, the FDA does not have to monitor the amount of caffeine in energy drinks. Some of them contain more caffeine than 20 cans of coke, all in one can! The recommended amount of caffeine for one day is fairly low, about the equivalent of a small cup of coffee. So ingesting all that caffeine is no good.

Effects of caffeine in excess include jitteriness, heart palpitations, and stomach upset. There have been many studies done with caffeine and its effects on the brain. Caffeine is considered a drug and your brain does get physically dependent on it. I know it sounds weird, but people who drink a lot of caffeine actually suffer from physical withdrawals when they stop drinking it.

I really don't like energy drinks because I know how bad they are for you. I do drink coffee and coca-cola but I keep it all to a minimum. When I was younger, I drank tons of caffeine every day and it contributed to chronic digestive issues which I've been hospitalized from and have caused me to suffer for years now.

I don't know, I don't want to sound like I'm lecturing, but I just think it's horrible that the FDA doesn't tell consumers that they don't make sure energy drinks are safe. They should have to put it on the can...

  18. QUESTION:
What are the health dangers of drinking a drink like "5 hour energy"?

    • ANSWER:
If you have high blood pressure or any heart problems, I'd stay away from these. If you are just having one occasionally, it should be okay, but you don't want to overdo it. Of course some people will say not to drink any caffeine at all, but if you are healthy and have it in moderation, you will be fine.

  19. QUESTION:
    Nos Energy Drink danger?
Just recently I hung out with my friends and I tried my first Nos energy drink. I thought it was pretty good and figure that id probably get more. I went on the internet to search for their "site" and when i did that i also came across web pages sayin that Nos Energy drink is bad for people. Is it really that dangerous?. i understand the high amount of caffeine for a little person but im 17 and weigh 180 pounds. so i figure it cant affect me that bad. So is there a limit to how much to drink that stuff. Like would it be bad to go out and have 2 one night or what? What are some of the serious side affects of too much caffiene that could cause "death" (said in a web page about it)

    • ANSWER:
my friend got heart palpitations from it once. i would chill out with some green tea or something more natural dude. yerba mate's also a great energizer, but doesn't string you out like NOS.

      ಠಎಠ

  20. QUESTION:
what are the dangers of drinking energy drinks?

    • ANSWER:
Energy drinks' stimulating properties can boost the heart rate and blood pressure (sometimes to the point of palpitations), dehydrate the body, and, like other stimulants, prevent sleep.

Energy drinks should not be used while exercising as the combination of fluid loss from sweating and the diuretic quality of the caffeine can leave the user severely dehydrated.

Know what you're drinking. Energy drinks are not necessarily bad for you, but they shouldn't be seen as "natural alternatives" either. Some of the claims they make like "improved performance and concentration" can be misleading. If you think of them as highly-caffeinated drinks, you'll have a more accurate picture of what they are and how they affect you. You wouldn't use Mountain Dew as a sports drink. And a drink like Red Bull and vodka is more like strong coffee and whisky than anything else.

  21. QUESTION:

  24. QUESTION:
is it safe to drink energy drinks with adhd?
is it dangers for a teen of 14yo old to drink energy drinks because my parents keep telling me that my heart will explode if i drink an energy drink? thanks for your help

    • ANSWER:
Too much caffeine can be harmful to anyone with adhd or not, especially if large amounts are consumed in a short amount of time. Caffeine is a stimulant and can actually increase your heart-rate,by how much is depending on how much you are ingesting. Some energy drinks actually have warnings on the back of the can or bottle, letting you know not to drink more than what is recommended.

Energy drinks especially do not mix well with exercise because the caffeine can actually make you more dehydrated. You're better off drinking Gatorade, even though it has a lot of sugar in it.

  25. QUESTION:
    Dangers of Energy Drinks?
I used to be a heavy energy drink consumer. I drank it all, Monster, Red Bull, Full Throttle and Rockstar. Every energy drink I had ever drank, I never had any bad effects. I'm 16 and 170LBS., so I thought I could handle them very well, and I did. But one school day I picked up two NOS bottled energy drinks. I drank one in 1st Period, and I started to feel very abnormal, increased heart rate, cold sweats, shakiness, and light- headiness. I didn't think anything of it, I thought I was having anxiety, so I ignored it and drank the other NOS at lunch three hours later. The symptoms got worse. Then I had P.E. and I ran one mile in that class. So the symptoms got worse again, because of all of the physical exertion. I think panic also played a big part in it. What I don't understand is why I could drink every other energy drink and feel completely normal, but when I drink 1 NOS I got all of those symptoms out of nowhere. I've heard that NOS was the worst energy drink to have, but then again so is Red Bull, and one night I drank eight Red Bulls in three hours, and only had a stomach ache the next day. What I want to know is why NOS did this to me and no other energy drink did, and as l long as I stay away from NOS, if I could drink them every now and again.

    • ANSWER:
You were just dehydrated. The caffeine will cause an elevated heart rate but you just are not always as aware of it, especially if you don't have any other symptoms. Since caffeine dehydrates us more the energy drinks just compounded the problem. As far as the shakiness goes that is related to the sugars in the energy drink. Did you have much too eat before that too?

Before consuming any energy drink have 2 glasses (16 ounces of water first). We feel tired when we are not properly hydrated. If after 15 minutes you feel that you don't need an energy drink, then you didn't as you were just dehydrated. If you still feel tired than have one along with another glass of water. Remember that since the caffeine in energy drinks dehydrate us we need to replenish that water quickly or we can have ill effects. The more dehydrated we are the worse those effects are. I always recommend 1 ounce of water for every 5mg of caffeine. Energy drinks typically have 80 - 84 mg of caffeine per 8 ounce serving.

  26. QUESTION:
Is the caffeine in guarana listed in the caffeine information on energy drinks?
I'm doing some research on the dangers of energy drinks. I came across a fact that guarana, often found in energy drinks, is very high in caffeine. Apparently, guarana seeds contain more caffeine than coffee beans. Monster and Rockstar both have 160mg of caffeine per can. Just wondering, does that number include the caffeine found in guarana?

    • ANSWER:
yes. guarana is a substance that has high levels of caffeine, but it is included in the caffeine content of the drink. I think guarana is about 20 percent caffeine, so 100 mg of guarana yields maybe 20 mg of caffeine.

You could start with slogans that the manufactures use to advertise their drinks, ie:

They give you wings, they let you party like a rock star etc but what else can they give you: nervousness, irritability, anxiety, tremulousness, muscle twitching insomnia, headaches, or even kill you.

You could finish with something like, so indeed they can give you wings in more ways than one. (as in the wings of an angel, if you should die)

  33. QUESTION:
the dangers of the new monster energy drinks with nitrous oxide?
I tried one of the new monsters with nitrous oxide in it last night...usually energy drinks get me really wired, so my boyfriend bought it and i decided to drink it to get really hyper cuz it seemed high powered. but then i started feeling really weird.

light headed, dizzy, it was difficult to breath and occasionally my heart beat would cause dull sharp pains. i came home and i had a 101 temperature.

i also have cardio-myopathy, a heart condition. and the fever is gone today, but i find it difficult to breath, and alot of pressure on my chest.

is this because of the energy drink?

    • ANSWER:
With your condition, you should NEVER drink or eat ANYTHING that will make your heart work overtime. Anything that has caffeine, or tons of sugar, or even things like sleeping pills that lower your heart rate and blood pressure, you should not take...ever...period. Nitrous Oxide is a sedative by the way (slows your heart rate) and it is basically "laughing gas". So there is a sedative in the drink, and tons of caffeine too: you practically just drank a speed ball! When uppers and downers are consumed together, it can make your heart work overtime and cause palpatations since one ingredient is slowing it down and the other ingredient is speeding it up. You could cause some serious harm to yourself by doing this, and if you do it enough, it could cause permanent damage or shock to your system. Honestly, no one should drink this; not just you. Stay away from that stuff and take care of your body.

    • ANSWER:
Energy drinks may cause seizures in those who suffer from certain forms of epilepsy due to the "crash" following the energy high that occurs after consumption.[3] France has banned the popular energy drink Red Bull after the death of eighteen-year-old athlete Ross Cooney, who died after he played a basketball game shortly after consuming four cans of the drink.[4] The French Scientific Committee (J.D. Birkel) concluded that Red Bull has excessive amounts of caffeine.[4] Denmark has also banned that particular drink. Britain also investigated the drink, but issued a warning against its use only by pregnant women.[4]

My younger brother turned 16 this past week. For a while now he has been drinking so called energy drinks on the odd occassion when he has money. For his birthday though he got a fair amount of money and has used some of it to stock up on 4-packs of energy drinks like mother, rockstar, wicked (not sure if they are only Australian brands). The past 2 days he's had 2 cans each day even though the max daily intake is one can. I don't even think he should be drinking 1 can. Especially when he has also recently taken up going to the gym for hours at a time doing weights and other exercises. That in itself I think is potentially harmful because I think he is overdoing it. Given that he's going through puberty and his body is at a sensitive time and going through many changes I think he should be careful in how he treats it.

Several friends and family members have tried to explain the dangers of energy drinks (and overdoing exercise). But my brother says that he had two cans yesterday and survived so he can have two cans today. Plus he's at the stage where he thinks he knows everything and is right about everything. So I thought if I have proof...

What kind of harm can energy drinks cause, especially in teenagers. CAn it have an accumulatove effect so that one drink now and again won't cause harm but one drink every day can add up?
Sources would be appreciated too so my brother doesn't just think I'm making it up...
I forgot to add an important piece of information, sorry. On the occasions when he has had 2 cans that day he has been observed by myself and others as acting though he is high on a sugar rush (or just plain high or drunk). He'll start talking louder and faster and rambling on making not much sense , he'll start being silly/stupid and also do stuff that really are not all that appropriate in public like going to friends and family members places of work and shouting hi repeatedly and loudly to them from across the store and then try and shove his can of energy drink in their face gong, again loudly, "want some?!"

    • ANSWER:
I did a search on "what are the dangers of energy drinks" in google and I found a few sites for you to show your brother.

In one of the articles it clearly states that energy drinks can cause heart problems.
      " Dangers of Energy Drinks"

Red Bull may give you wings, but apparently, it also increases your risk of several health problems including heart attack and stroke, according to an Australian study. The proliferation of booster beverages such as Red Bull, Rock Star and Monster on the market has health professionals and organizations calling for more warning labels about the dangers of energy drinks.

  38. QUESTION:
What happens when you drink too many Monster energy shots?
I went to a party tonight and had 4 energy shots all within 30 minutes. I felt sick all night. I went to the bathroom a lot because I thought I was going to puke. I'm home now and I'm still shaking and can't sleep. Is my health in danger? If so, what do I need to do? I'm scared...

    • ANSWER:
It mostly depends on your age. If you're under 12, you might want to go for a check up. If you're over 13, the symptoms should go away in a day or two (maybe even shorter). Remember that that doesn't mean you shouldn't still go to the doctor's for a quick check up. If it's benen over a day and you still can't sleep, I recommend that you do check with the doctors, but since there are no immediate symptoms, I think you'll be okay. I don't recommend you drink anymore for a while. Your body is not used to the elevated caffeine levels. This can cause hypertension and elevated blood pressure. Check with somebody to make sure you don't have any special conditions.

Energy drinks are loaded with caffeine and many other herbs and chemicals. Red Bull was banned in France due to a fatality.

    • ANSWER:
because the things that they put in energy drinks (like caffeine and guarana) are stimulants (increases heart rate) and alcohol is a depressant (decreases heart rate) if you increase and decrease your heart rate too rapidly, it can lead to heart issues.

  45. QUESTION:
What's all this hype and danger talk about Energy Drinks?
I was watching the news and out of nowhere they started talking about how energy drinks will cause serious health problems and will give you heart attacks. I drink energy drinks here and their, mainly cause I've cut down alot. But, in the day, I used to drink three or four daily, and experienced no health problems besides rapid beating heart sometimes (which is normal cause of the caffeine content) and pretty much just a stimulated mind state. Other than that, no other health problems.

So, are energy drinks really as bad as the media is making them out to be? Can energy drinks be safely consumed if used only here and their? And also, has their been any recorded deaths caused by drinking energy drinks?

    • ANSWER:
They've been linked to deaths in Europe & banned in France

If they say that for all the things they don't want you doing and you do one, to discover it in fact will not kill you, you'll never heed their caution again which could be dangerous.

No your heart will not explode, as for any other dangers regarding having adhd, idk.

Yes. My husband had drank a monster and some mt dew last year and we ended up in the ER with his heart racing at 237 beats a minute. They had him hooked up to the crash cart and gave him drugs to slow his heart rate and was prepared to have to shock his heart back into rhythm. They can be very dangerous and I know drinking anything else with caffeine in it makes it worse. Please be careful.

  50. QUESTION:
    Energy drinks linked with weightloss?
Ive started drinking a litre of diet kick (tescos version of redbull) and found ive started losing weight because of it. does anyone know of any dangers of drinking it or risks associated with it? x
PS, of course Im not just drinking it and not eating that would be stupid! I eat 3 balanced meals a day and exercise for at least an hour

    • ANSWER:
After my last baby I went into 'lose baby weight mode' (as you do!) and drank 'V' everyday, just a couple of cans and also walked with my baby. I have no doubt the V helped, especially with the energy levels, perhaps the extra energy helped me move more therefore helped lose the weight. I also took Fatblaster and the weight started to come off so fast I actually got a little scared! It slowed tho and was all good.
But I do think the energy drinks help a little. If anything all that caffeine will increase your metabolism. But eat right too :)

PS there was a story on tv about a guy who drank 8 cans of red bull in 1 day...it nearly killed him!!!! MODERATION Is the key :)
