Energy Drink Facts

When you are considering an energy drink or food bar it's important for you to look past the packaging. While an energy drink can be helpful if you're drowsy and have to stay awake for work or studying, and food bars can be convenient if you don't have time for a meal, you should know what you're consuming. Keep reading for some important information on factors your need to consider regarding these energy drinks and food bars.

Many people consume energy drinks to give them endurance for working out or exercise. This of course includes just about anyone including high school athletes, professionals, middle ages men and women. In general the most ideal beverage is water to keep your body hydrated during exercise. Shortly after getting a boost of energy from the sugar, caffeine, herbs or vitamins in these energy drinks you can experience a serious energy crash. If weight loss is your goal but you need the extra energy for your workout, try to find one with no added sugar.

Energy or food bars can be nourishing, or they can be only a tad bit more than sugar-filled candy presented with healthy looking packaging. Nevertheless, in actuality, you can simply eat foods that are similar to a healthy energy bar without spending money on these packaged products. The ideal food bars have nutritionally dense foods, like nuts, seeds and fruits, so if your start eating these foods as snacks then you can save money and also get the same benefits. Healthy trail mixes are a really good snack, as long as they're not packed with chocolate candy or other junk foods that are now typically slipped into trail mixes. The fitting food bars can be healthy, yet you can also seek out the equivalent without spending money on them.

There are some drinks even at the grocery store that say they are energy drinks infused with fruit and water. What you are really seeing is a water with a hint of fruit. You will find these to be much more healthy for you since they do not contain the caffeine and sugar you will find in an energy drink. These are simple to make at home too adding fresh fruit to your water. These are a great alternative to energy drinks without all of the nasty side effects of an energy drink.

As we've seen, it's important to use your better judgment when it comes to energy drinks and food bars. Don't fall for the hyped up advertising or flashy packaging, make sure you know what you are consuming before you cause irreversible damage to your body. It's in your best interest to know what you are buying so that you can avoid eating something that will have the reverse effect on you from what you intended it to especially since there are so many of these products available to you these days.

  6. QUESTION:
help any one i need to do a science fair project on monster energy drink! need facts!on it?

    • ANSWER:
I don't know how successful a google search would be on "monster energy drink", and you probably won't get much from the manufacturer's web site (just a lot of sales/marketing stuff), but you can take a look.

Get a hold of a can and then use the ingredient list to look up the ingredients that you are not sure of one by one (use google or another search engine). This should yield decent information on what goes into the drink.

Then, maybe you could take a more detailed look at some of the ingredients and outline how they effect the body when ingested. Of course, caffiene comes to mind as a major ingredient. But, some drinks have guarana and other more obscure "pick me ups" that would be interesting to learn about. When looking at "effects" on the body, you should highlight both the upswing and the downswing effects (how one feels 5 minutes after ingestion and then 1 hour later, etc.).

Do these ingredients deplete vitamins and minerals? Are there any health benefits? Detriments? What about all of the sugar? Artificial sweeteners? You can see where I am going here.

If your project concludes that energy drinks in general are not so good for us, you might want to research healthier alternatives, and present those, too.

(I even thought of a potential title for your project: Is Monster really a MONSTER?)

I hope that is enough to get your own creative juices flowing. Best of luck to you!

  13. QUESTION:
Why does half an energy drink make me shaky when a pot of coffee doesn't?
I have a remarkably high tolerance for caffeine when consumed in the form of coffee or soda. In fact, I can drink a pot of coffee by myself and then take a nap shortly thereafter. However, whenever I have one of those energy drinks (like Red Bull), I get the worst case of the jitters: my heart races, my hands shake, and I can't stay focused on anything. Why do I have no reaction to coffee, yet such a strong one to an energy drink?

    • ANSWER:
The main active ingredient in most energy drinks is not caffeine, it's taurine. Then they add caffeine and sometime ephedra. You could be allergic to the taurine but chances are, you just haven't built up the tolerance to it you have to caffeine.

  14. QUESTION:
What does the cross mean on Monster energy drink?

(then you look down the package and look for the same * and find)

      *may cause cancer

      Get it?

I used to drink energy drinks a lot, and I know, they're bad for you, but I don't drink that much any more so please just answer my question. I have often wondered what the cross on the back of energy drinks mean in the nutrition facts. Here is a picture... http://dhdcruiser.com/upld/headshot-energy-shot-drink-nutrition-facts-d.png

The cross all the way to the right from Taurine next to 100gm... what is that cross suppose to mean?

    • ANSWER:

  18. QUESTION:
If the FDA hasn't evaluated a drink then can the nutritional facts on it be trusted?
I like to drink sugar-free energy drinks, which usualy say that they havent been evaluated by the FDA. So, would the makers be lying about the low calories and low carbs and suff?
It says that it has two 10 calorie servings, so can i rely on that to be true?

    • ANSWER:
usually the terms "low calorie" and such are based on the fact that they have few calories than their high sugar counterparts. There are strict regulations aboiut what can be considered "low" or "reduced". the nutritional information is required by law to accurate but the facts can be deceiving to the consumer. Low calorie doesn't make it any safer because those drinks are full of caffein and other weird things. As far as the FDA goes the product cannot claim to treat, cure or prevent any disease.

the name of the drink is called Nice Day! Energy. I would like some witty dialogue to fill up can space, and that will entice people to give the drink a try. Any suggestions that i can use? thank you.

    • ANSWER:
How about "Born to be WIRED" written on the can. Maybe include some graphics of live power cable shooting electricity. Yes, Yes, I know its not "witty dialogue" but I doubt anyone is going to stand in a convenience store read some dialogue and then decide to buy the can. A crazy twisted graphic would probably work best! By the way, be sure to include a major dose of caffeine, anything more than 450mg per can would be great!

  29. QUESTION:
Is Starbucks doubleshot energy drink bad for you?
I already know the calorie facts and what it says on the can, but monsters are a health hazard so I don't know if this is the same. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
There are two versions of Doubleshot, so to give you an answer we'd need to know which you're drinking.

The "Energy+Coffee" version is a coffee-flavored, explicitly coffee-powered version of a standard energy drink, and isn't any better for you than a Monster.

The "Coffee" version only uses coffee drink ingredients (coffee, milk, sugar) and coloring and preservative agents. It probably isn't quite as good for you as a freshly made coffee drink (which isn't the best thing for you to begin with - too much sugar), but it's no worse for you than a can of Coca-Cola.

Black coffee is better than either - zero calories and possibly good for you (the jury is still out).

Everything in moderation is ideal. Those ingredients are all water-soluble, so you should drink plenty of water and stay fully hydrated. Even then, at one a day you might risk overdoing those vitamins which can lead to adverse effects (water-soluble nutrients have a much lower risk for overdose than fat-soluble ones). Also, taking such a product everyday for concentration and energy can cause you to become dependent to the point where you may need this product just to have a normal amount of energy. Changing up your usage of the product can alleviate some of these effects.

The nutritional facts on the 5 hour energy bottle says that it has vitamin b12 in it and I take 2500mcg b12 supplements. Is it safe to take both? Is there a set overdose of mcg of vitamin b12?

    • ANSWER:
I don't think you need both. An Original 5-Hour Energy Shot has 2000% of your Recommended Daily Allowance of vitamin B6 and 8333% of your Recommended Daily Allowance of vitamin B12. While those doses are "well within safe limits. The RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) is minimum daily amounts set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine." I don't see why you'd want to add to that.

I would say skip the B12 supplements on the days you take a 5-Hour Energy, and talk to your doctor if you have more concerns.

  41. QUESTION:
    Overall best energy drink?
Okay so i am a fan of energy drinks (obviously) but i want to know some stuff. Opinions are fine, but the best answer will go to the one with hard facts.

I like most energy drinks but what i want is one that has been proven to and can help me to stay concentrated, has no HFCS, not too much caffiene (i dont enjoy ODing in grams of caff.), and at least tastes sorta okay.

I dont mind taurine, vitamin B's, and idk wat the deal is w/ guanara [optional i guess], i dont need milk thistle because i dont drink alcohol LOL. The kick isnt my biggest issue but if it doesnt do anything at all... then its basically just soda.

Personally i like RB for this stuff but its not as good tasting (kinda watery) and i cant friggen afford it lol :P

    anything helps thanks.
okay im not that concerned with caffiene. i was just kidding about grams. it doesnt really affect me, i just know its not great for u.

    great info thnx :)

    more suggestions appreciated

    • ANSWER:
If you can get a shot of B-12 that helps like crazy plus it puts you in a good mood for a couple of days vs. the groggy let down crash of energy drinks. I used to take b supplements it helps concentration but your body will only absorb as much as it needs. Can't really od by ingesting. Another thing is to exercise to get beta endorphins flowing that gives you crazy energy. If only they had a pill.

  42. QUESTION:
Anyone know a good energy drink comparison website?
I really want to start drinking energy drinks, but I know most of them are filled with sugar and caffeine.

I also don't want to buy something that I have to invest money in...

I guess, I just want a good website that can compare some famous energy drinks and shows some nutritional facts on each one.

I like bevnet... but there isn't a side by side comparison of the drinks... is there anything else out there like it?

Well, hopefully I wasn't too specific and hopefully there is something out there!

Also, any suggestions on a "healthy" energy drink? I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but an energy drink that isn't as bad as the other ones would be preferred.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Here's a website that you can check out:
      http://www.squidoo.com/energydrinks-us-can

It has reviews on some various energy drinks, a table that compares the nutrition facts of them, and links to where you can buy them (both online and in the store).

As for a healthy energy drink: XS energy drink is a really good one. It was designed for athletes, and has 0 sugar, 0 carbs, and 8 calories. It actually is one of the top energy drinks sold in the US... believe it or not.

You've probably never heard of it because it is only offered through independent distributors.

Here's the link from the site listed about to where to buy them:

    • ANSWER:
According to Energy Fiend, "A 16 ounce can of Monster contains 160 milligrams of caffeine." A 16 ounce of Dunkin Donuts coffee averages 175 milligrams of caffeine where as a 16 ounce cup of drip Folgers coffee is 170.

  45. QUESTION:
Which energy drink is the most harmful/effective/tasty?
I drink Amp and Sobe Adrenaline Rush, and those seem to be the most delicious, in my opinion. However Amp works best.

Other drinks like Rockstar and Monster aren't as effective and don't taste like anything more than LOTS of sugar.

I recently tried No Fear, but i'm not sure if it works or not due to the fact that it's overwhelming taste of Hobo Ass prevented me from finishing it.

  50. QUESTION:
Energy drinks - Have you relapsed in AA/NA/CA recovery if you regularly drink them?
I find this to be a controversial topic in the 12-step recovery community. Some say No because its not a traditional drug or because they do not cause the same harm as narcotics or alcohol. Some say Yes because its a mind-altering substance and in fact tell their sponsees that to drink them means picking up a white (newcomers) chip. Then there are others who are middle of road who feel its not a relaspe but something to be mindful of. I welcome all advise and opinons

    • ANSWER:
It's splitting hairs. How about coffee? Sugar? Cigarettes? These are AA staples.

And what about psych meds? Bill Wilson took medication for his depression; Wilson even experimented with LSD trying to re-create his white light experience, thinking others could use it for the same thing.

Did you join AA to quit energy drinks? No? Then tell the person to quit taking YOUR inventory, and worry about himself.
