Energy Drink Ingredients

Taurine was once regarded to be a not-so-important type of amino acid. The reason is that they can actually be made in our body naturally, therefore the need for it as a supplement is not needed anymore.

But that was the thing of the past. Nowadays, taurine is considered as an essential type of amino acid that is really important in our body. Fact is that taurine poses a lot of benefits towards a healthier life. These key benefits are the following:

  • It protects the kidneys and is important in renal development.
  • It helps to eliminate toxins in the body as well as the elimination of cholesterol in the bile.
  • It is important in the brain and nervous system, prevention of abnormal heartbeats, as well as in the cardiac functions.
  • It protects the heart from damage during a shock or from irregular rhythms.
  • It serves as an antioxidant.
  • It serves as a performance enhancers for athletes
  • It can help in treating seizure disorders because of its known calming effect on the human brain.
  • It also helps to fight microbial infections by being present in the balancing of white blood cell production.

Taurine is also very important in pregnant women. It is important in the brain development of babies inside the womb. As fetus inside, their body cannot create these natural taurine and through that will depend babies' brain development. When they come out of the womb, they feed on the breast milk or with formulated milk which is loaded with taurine.

Researches show that most of the autistic children lacked from taurine either inside their mother's womb or while they are developing babies when they needed it the most.

Other importances of taurine supplementations include the treatment of different health conditions, including: seizure disorders, cardiovascular disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and hepatic disorders. Taurine supplements are also found out to be a cure in insomnia, restlessness, depression, and irritability.

It is very important to know whether or not a person is under taurine deficiency, especially for nursing mothers. Taking supplements that would help enhance the body's production of taurine is the best option.

Taurine deficiency can result to a lot of bad effects to human health. Researches show that low level of taurine is found with patients diagnose with disorders such as anxiety, hypertension, infertility, depression, kidney failure, and obesity. Because of that, it is believed that taurine deficiency has a direct effect with the abovementioned health problems. Taking food supplements that contain taurine is the wisest thing to do to avoid having health problems related to taurine deficiency.

is nos any healthier for you? i probably like it the best, and it has a more juicy taste whereas monster and amp seem more soda like

    • ANSWER:
If you are looking for an alternative to high caffeine and high sugar, why not try XS energy? I am a barista at Starbucks and was looking for some kind of healthier alternative to my caffeine intake, which was about 800mg a day. (the maximum suggested is 400mg. the equivalent of a venti black coffee.)

My friend suggested this to me. And although skeptical because I had to buy it online, I trusted my friend alot, so i gave it a shot, and instantly fell in love with them. XS uses (instead of lots of caffeine, sugar and taurine) a high amount of vitamin B12 which naturally stimulates your brain functioning, giving you energy and helping you focus. It also helps your blood cells in regenerating. They cost about the same as a redbull. And guess what? They are sugar free. And only eight calories. Try finding that in anything else you drink. I can tell you, It's non existent. They taste great, I would never know it was sugar free by just drinking one. I think there are ten flavors, and my personal favorite is the cranberry-grape. I am not a big fan of the citrus. but see for yourself. Here is where I buy them. http://sreedy.qhealthzone.com/ Best of luck to your search in healthier options.

  31. QUESTION:
What is the energy drink ingredient taurine?
So my girlfriend brought me a energy drink during lunch at school that she bought the day before , its a 16 ounce caffien based "rock star" brand, and apparently one of the ingredients is taurine. Never heard of taurine before, nor have i ever had a energy anything before(sept for the occasional light cuppachino, like once a year).
It tasted horrible like a bitter tangy with like two drops of maby strawberry juice for the whole 16 oz, im gassy now, my stomac hurts and i could only drink half of it before i felt like i would blow up.
Any idea whats up with it and why im reacting so bad to it?
HAHA, i just read that tarine is found in bull sperm/urine but energy drinks use tarine from other places, for the vegetariens.

And because it would be gross.
    Thanks for the lol though!

    • ANSWER:
Taurine is derived from an amino acid. It is a natural substance and you eat it all the time as it occurs naturally in food. I highly doubt it's the taurine that's making you ill.

I can't speak about Rock Star specifically, but many "energy" drinks are absolutely LOADED with sugar and caffeine. It is not uncommon to react badly to them especially if you aren't used to them.

They may make some people feel really good temporarily, but most energy drinks really aren't "good" for you.

      Hope you feel better soon!

Starbucks new energy drink....here's the ingredients--safe?
    Taurine 500mg
    L carnitune 250mg
    Panax ginseng root 325mg
    Inositol 100mg
    Guarana 90mg
    B2 170%
    Niacin 170%
    B6 170%
    B12 70%

I have had this (pretty much daily since it debuted) as a
"Double shot iced plus energy". Has anyone else had it?

I think it's delicious but I'm a bit concerned about the ingredients---obviously it's designed to kick you in the butt, but is it safe?

Anyone really familiar with guarana and taurine as well as some of the other more obscure ingredients? I have to say I love this drink and I love the boost it gives me, but I don't want to do anything unsafe.

It does seem to be kind of addictive and I have to assume since it's not too expensive, under 100 cals and fabulous that there must be a downside.

    • ANSWER:
Not sure. It is not available in Canada do to the ingredients. It was not approved by Canada's FDA.

      That ought to say something.

If you cannot pronounce and you do not know what the heck the chemical ingredients are, how can that be safe?

Stick to something else! Get your regular coffee with perhaps an extra shot of espresso for a kick in the butt. Better safe than sorry, right? :) I like Americanos (shots of espresso and hot water) if you like basic coffee it tastes great. Ask for room for milk or cream. Very smooth and gives you a great kick.
