Energy Drink Reviews

wired-b12-rush

When it comes to the energy drink market, no one really cares about being healthy with vitamin C. No one cares about building strong bones with D. Nobody even cares about vitamin A anda well whatever A does. The golden vitamin is that of the B variant. I don't know why this vitamin ranks between A and C, or why categories 6 and 12 matter the most. I just know that when a sustained energy boost is your craving, vitamins B6 and B12 deliver. Chaser 5 Hour seems to be the first to commercially harness this state of affairs, and Wired X B12 Rush is the first energy drink I've ever seen to travel down this road.

Taste

It's just another face in the crowd. First up, citrus. Second up, energy blend bitterness. Third up, fake sugar cover up. I do not see this taste as one meant to offer a singularly pleasurable experience. Rather, I see it as a taste that works functionally as a vessel to deliver a powerful energy blend under your taste bud radar.

Ingredients

The top of the can reads, aMAXIMUM CAFFEINE.a Woah there, cowboy, hold your horses. We're only talking 100mg of caffeine total. The top of the can also reads, aMAXIMUM B VITAMINS.a All of this caps-lock label screaming had me whispering aEXTREEEEEMEa under my breath when I first plucked it out of the vending cooler. The drink offers up 3,000% of your B12 DV and 500% of your B6 DV. As far as energy drinks (not shots) are concerned, those figures are impressive.

Energy

Most of the B shots out there, in my experience, seem to kindly present an optional energy boost to you on a silver tray. They seem to say, ahey there good buddy, I've got some energy for you, You don't to have to take it, it's ok, I just wanted to let you know that you're swell and if you're feeling down, I'm here for youa. This drink takes the silver platter of energy and mashes it into your face. The monologue of this drink would better spoken by Gunnery Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket. Down this drink and you're going to get a classic B-vitamin boost, and you have absolutely no say in the matter. I don't why it does this better than shots, it just does.

Verdict

This has become a local go-to drink for me because of its reliable energy boost. Really these days, isn't that what matters? Sure taste is nice but you have a busy life to live. If an energy drink fails me when I really need it, it can threaten my ability to have a successful and productive day. My only question now is what happened to B-Vitamins 1-5 and 7-11. Poor little guys are always getting left out. Reviewed by Dusty Smith

  8. QUESTION:
What do you think about energy drinks?
I am not a big cofee drinker, but I love energy drinks. I've heard mixed reviews about the energy drink craze, but I'd like to get some more imput.

    • ANSWER:
      Hey Biglo68

Energy drinks are good for some and bad for others. It all depends on what your body can take. We are all structured different to with stand certain things that we take in and so we should be careful in selecting what foods and drinks we all like to eat. To answer your question overall I think energy drinks are bad for the simple reason that they are packed with so much sugar and the ones that aren't packed with sugar have a sugar substitute which is just like drinking fake sugar. Handing picking the best energy drink is difficult however can be benefical if you know which ones to drink. Alot of people drink the popular ones and those are the ones that aren't good for us. There are over 500 energy drinks out in the market and over 70million are sold everyday. Out of those 500 I am sure you can find one that suits what your looking for. I personally like to drink Crave Energy Drink, it is different from the other ones because it doesn't come in a can, it comes in a packet and so you can mix it with just about anything. The recommendation is that you mix it with a 16oz bottle of water. You can google Crave Energy Drink and see what you come up with and I have also included a link below.

      Hope this helps

  9. QUESTION:
I would like to know if that 5 Hour energy drink works? and are there any side effects? Is it safe to use?
5 Hour Energy is that new energy shot that came out recently. It worked for me but I seen a review of some people that it didnt' go so well for. I just wanted to know at a whole, if its safe and what the side effects are.

    • ANSWER:
It's mostly made up of B vitamins which are water soluable and are absorbed into your body quickly.

If you can get past the taste, they do work pretty well by increasing the energy levels (with the Vitamin B), and there is a slight crash.

Start with 1/2 a bottle at first if you're worried about the affects. Likely, most of the affects are probably 'in your head'.

Anything that increases you energy levels artificially is proabably not the best for your body.

      Good luck!

  10. QUESTION:
I would like to know if that 5 Hour energy drink works? and are there any side effects? Is it safe to use?

    Energy drink gone bad?
Ok, I tried a RED LINE energy drink for the first time. I took it like a big shot.
WTF. After about half an hour I had a burst of energy, but not the same as a red bull or monster. This stuff is crazy. And, like a moron, i didnt read the label. Your only supposed to drink half, then and half later.
Now, 12 hrs later still awake and amping, I looked it up online. This drink has such bad reviews!
My question is, Does anyone know when this drink will stop working!?! I would appreciate a time frame. Thanks Much.

    • ANSWER:
You probably already found this out but this drink is horribly bad for you! Most people it is supposed to wear off by 6 hours, if you only drink half the can. Since you forgot to read the label, you would double this to about 12. For people that is doesn't, they are the ones that get sick. If you start having chills, rapid heart rate, or convulsions, go to the emergency room. Things that might helps you are eating. Especially carbs. Try having a sandwich, maybe peanut butter and jelly. The bread and the protein are whats going to absorb into your blood stream. I would suggest just eating and waiting out. And try not to drink this stuff again. It's loaded with taurine and amino acids that trip your brain up. Hope this helps!

What's the best energy drink for focusing?
I need to stay focused on this project I'm doing and work diligently. However, I'm very distracted right now and I need something to help. I've heard good reviews of 5-Hour Energy for focus and such, since it's mostly B vitamins and some caffeine rather than other energy drinks which contain craploads of caffeine and sugar and get you all jittery until you crash hard. I do have somewhat of a tolerance for caffeine (having used it every day for about two years). My brother also has ADHD medicine but I really don't wanna snort one of his pills just to do this project. Any help? Thanks!

  19. QUESTION:
Redline energy drink- its 11:30 am will I be able to sleep before 2am?
I drink about 3 large cups of coffee when I am at work (about 4 days a week) and eat energy pills every so often to help my workouts. If I drink half a Redline at 11:30am do you think I will be fine by 2am? I've heard reviews where people can't sleep all night, but I can usually go to sleep on uppers but sometimes can't so I can't decide.
Basically my question is::: If you aren't as sensitive to caffeine like some people, will you be able to handle it better? Has anyone who drinks a lot of coffee or caffeine seen that these Redlines were still pretty potent for them?

    • ANSWER:
I drink about 3 to 4 large POTS of coffee per day. Drink it 24/7 and rarely have had sleep problems until lately. They are due to some medications the doctor says I need, but are interfering with other lifestyle problems.

If you are not really sensitive to caffeine go ahead. But you would get better results from proper dietary habits on the energy levels.

I cannot post websites as that is "solicitation" according to the Yahoo Answers Gurus.

I tasted a soda a while back called Young Energy. I thought it was tasty, but I am having *no luck* finding this stuff. 27. QUESTION:
Question about the drink Red Bull?
I love this drink. I drink it because it taste great. I don't drink it a lot. Maybe 2 cans a week. Not a lot at all. Right? Anyway....

I have heard many mixed reviews about this drink. People say to drink this before a test because it helps you concentrate. Then i hear people say don't do that because it makes you hyper.

Then i hear to take it before you work out. Then i hear DO NOT do that.

People say this is not a energy drink. So what is it?

So I'm pretty confused about this drink. I guess my question is... What are the benefits of drinking Red Bull?

    • ANSWER:
Benefits? Sugar, absurd amount of caffeine, great way to part with your money.

Gatorade is still the drink of choice for athletes (some of the most active people in society) -- you don't see them switching to these energy drinks (maybe to hawk, but not to drink), that should tell you something.

BTW, take a peppermint before taking a test, as peppermint actually does help clear the mind.

  30. QUESTION:
Are Diet Energy Drinks bad for you?
I want the Facts, not your personal opinion or popular reviews. Different websites say different answers.
I only drink the Diet Energy Drinks. I know they aren't the best thing for you, since they basically are diet soda. I have been having 1 Diet Energy Drink everyday for about the past 3 and 1/2 months.
I drink the Sugar-Free RockStars, and the Sugar-Free Amp Energy's. They have no Calories, Fat or Carbs, plus they taste good and I highly enjoy them.

What are the long term effects? What damage have I already done to my body? I'm an 18 year old Male.

    • ANSWER:
Energy drinks are popular beverages promoted as energy enhancers. They are usually carbonated and contain caffeine or other stimulants, such as ginseng and tea extracts. People may consume energy drinks for improved athletic performance, weight reduction or for energy to stay up for work or recreational activities late into the night. Routine or excessive energy drink consumption poses numerous risks. While diet energy drinks contain less calories and sugar than regular varieties, they pose similar risks.
      Function
People may reach for diet energy drinks for numerous reasons. Increased energy is perhaps the most obvious. In addition, dieters may opt for energy drinks in place of high-calorie foods or beverages while restricting calories, to manage appetite or for a metabolism boost. Athletes may drink energy drinks prior to exercise in hopes of heightened athletic performance.

      Emotional Risks
Energy drinks may negatively impact a person's moods and emotional health. According to Mayo Clinic physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist, Edward R. Laskowski, M.D., energy drinks may cause irritability, restlessness and nervousness.

Since people vary in caffeine sensitivity, some individuals may experience intense emotional effects shortly after consuming energy drinks and more significant "crash" effects once the stimulants wear off. Those with psychological disorders, such as anxiety and depression, may stand at heightened risk for these effects.
      Physical Risks
Depending upon the ingredients and how much volume a person consumes, energy drinks may cause adverse physical symptoms. According to Dr. Laskowski, energy drinks are known to cause rapid heartbeat and blood pressure increases. People may experience irregular heart rhythms, which are sometimes dangerous.

Though research findings are mixed, Dr. Laskowski suggests that caffeine and other ingredients in energy drinks may trigger dehydration during physical activity. In severe cases, excessive energy drink consumption has been linked with seizures, chest pain, heart attacks and sudden death.
      Alcohol Hazards
Combining energy drinks with alcohol has become a growing trend in America. According to the Marin Institute, 31 percent of youth ages 12 to 17 and 34 percent of young adults ages 18 to 24 report routine energy drink consumption. For this reason, many alcoholic beverage companies are targeting this age group in promotion of energy drinks combined with alcohol.

Youth and young adults hoping to keep their calorie intake low while drinking alcohol may opt for sugar-free energy drinks combined with alcohol. Regular and diet energy drinks combined with alcohol pose multiple dangers. Though people may believe that it's harder to get drunk while drinking stimulants, what actually happens is their assessment of their intoxication is reduced. As a result, risk for injuries, drinking while intoxicated and life-threatening accidents may increase.

According to Dr. Laskowski, alcohol also compounds the negative side effects of energy drinks, such as irritability and heart problems.
      Cognitive and Sleep Problems
Caffeine and other stimulants contained in energy drinks may negatively affect a person's ability to think clearly or focus on important tasks. According to the National Sleep Foundation or NSF, the effects of caffeine are temporary and do not restore restfulness attained from adequate sleep. In addition, people who consume energy drinks or other caffeinated beverages regularly are more likely to struggle with insomnia.

While moderate, occasional consumption of energy drinks is generally considered safe, precautions should be taken. Energy drinks vary substantially in content of caffeine, additional stimulants and other ingredients.

Dr. Laskowski recommends water and/or sports drinks as the optimum energy enhancer during workouts. Overweight individuals may fare better by increasing physical activity and adhering to a nutrient-rich diet than from over-consumption of diet energy drinks.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends healthy sleep habits and naps when necessary as optimum means of energy enhancement.

  31. QUESTION:
Have you ever heard of this drink?
Today, I reviewed the Jack Herer 420 Hemp Infusion energy drink. The store nearby had it and I was interested. It comes in an 8.4oz can, and actually has Hemp seed extract in it. I found it a bit odd and very uncommon, and wondered if anyone else has tried it. I reviewed it on my website, Canned Reviews. I myself, thought it was pretty good.

Here is the link to my review:

    http://cannedreviews.blogspot.com/2008/04/jack-herer-420-hemp-energy-infusion.html

I guess this is a European drink because in the ingredients, it lists "Flavour" instead of "Flavor.
    Oh, right, or Canadian.

    That makes sense, right.

Is it safe to drink the Zantrex 3 power crystals drink mix while taking the Zantrex 3 fat burner pill?
I haven't done this I'm just curious because my friend wants both and i've read reviews on the pill and it raises energy levels which in turn raises heart rate and I'm concerned.

    • ANSWER:
It is safer and healthier to drink water.

If you buy the pills, just throw them in the garbage. Do NOT flush them down the toilet, as they pollute our drinking water.

If you are dying to waste money, give it to a charity.

If you want to damage your body, eat ice cream, don't take fake meds.

  40. QUESTION:
    5-Hour Energy for Minors.?
Hello all, this a question about the popular drink called 5-Hour Energy. It is mostly reviewed as safe, from what I've read. Anyhow, I've gotten some because, all though young, I need a lot of energy to get through a day at times because of strenuous activities I undertake. My question is this:

Is 5-Hour Energy safe for minors to consume? I'm mostly curious about myself, I am 14 and wondering if I should or should not take any.

    Thank you all.

    • ANSWER:
It's not recommended for children under the age of 12 (says so right on the bottle and on the Website). So technically, I guess you're safe. However, 5-Hour Energy, and any energy supplement for that matter were never intended for children like yourself. You should be focusing on taking care of yourself, eating right, getting PLENTY of rest, and giving your body what it needs to grow and develop in a healthy way, not by relying on energy supplements.

Talk to your parents/a teacher/guidance counselor/doctor about what you can do to get more rest and take better care of yourself so you don't feel like you need energy supplements.

  41. QUESTION:
Does anyone know where I can get Chai High?
Chai high is one of the new Java Monster energy drinks. I didn't think that they were out yet, but I've seen a review of it on someone's blog. I had a sample and absolutely loved it, but now I don't even know if it's out yet! I asked Monster and they said that I should start seeing it in more stores soon - but I haven't seen it in ANY store!

    • ANSWER:
Monster (along with many other products) is brought into stores by a vendor. In the case of most chains, the corporate office has to authorize any new items before they can be brought into the stores. Chai Hai is relatively new and in my area, it's only been authorized in one grocery chain so far. The chain doesn't extend too far beyond our county so it would be of little use to you.

Your best bet is to try to find it in independantly owned grocery and convenience stores because Monster doesn't require a pre-authorization to bring it in there.. just approval from the managers/ owners.

Give it a little more time and more stores will start to carry it soon. There's 5 other new flavors of monster that came out at the same time!

  43. QUESTION:
Blehh I just drank a 5 Hour Energy and now I feel sick?
I was at Blitz with my sister and mom at Wal Mart and they were handing out free 5 Hour Energy samples to keep you awake and at the store, so I took one and I drank it (In a short review of 5 Hour Energy: Tastes like shit, Only lasts for about 10 minutes, Has a terrible crash, Fuck 5HE, I'm sticking to Monster: Hitman), and after the Energy went away, I started feeling shakey and on-edge, but then eventually my stomach started to hurt, and now it feels all twisted, has anyone had a similar experience?

    • ANSWER:
For me all energy drinks twist my stomach a bit when I drink them (I got used to it, doesn't really hurt) and then I have a rush to go to poop. This doesn't sound exactly the same but similar. Maybe if it's a stronger drink it has such effect on people who may tolerate weaker drinks.

  46. QUESTION:
Is it safe to take 5 hour energy drinks before a intense concert?
Im going to a concert next month then will have a very intense pit. The pit is the reason im going and i want to be able to stay in as much as possible. I was considering taking a 5 hour energy before so that i have more energy. Im curious as to whether or not this will work for what i want, and if its safe to take the shot then do intense physical activity for at least a couple hours, and help would be greatly appreciated. I would check review sites but for all i know the company it self can sway those.

    • ANSWER:
It’s safe, yeah. Especially since mosh pits involve lots of adrenaline (and fun) that keep you going past the point you normally would tolerate.

I’d also recommend not starving yourself any time before the concert. Well, you shouldn’t starve yourself ever, but you get the point: When it comes to energy, healthy food is your friend.

  48. QUESTION:
    answering questions coherently while asleep?
    hello,

ok something happened last night that freaked me a little last night. Let me give u a background first. I have tourette's syndrome and had deep brain stimulation surgery so I have electrodes which pass a small current through my brain to block the signals that cause the uncontrollable movements. just google DBS and read the wikipedia article if u want to know more. I am also on SSRI fluvoxamine (Luvox) for OCD.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_Water
    http://supplement-geek.com/dream-water-review/

I drank the above stuff called dream water last night, after having a few days of extreme stress and sleeplessness. It is part of the new "relaxation drink craze" (all over the news) which is an industry that came out to compete with the energy drink companies. There are now over a dozen brands of these drinks, and they are all supposed to "calm" you. The one I drank had a 150mg "proprietary blend" of GABA, 5-HTP & Melatonin. I took it and went to sleep pretty quick which is always the hardest part for me.

My dog is 14 and she has cancer. I love her to pieces and I searched for days relentlessly in the paper calling shelters looking for her when I was just 10 years old. That was 14 years ago. So last night she had a seizure at 1am (about an hour after I had gone to bed), my parents took her to the 24hr emergency vet. Knowing that she may not ever return from the vet, my mom aroused me and asked me if I wanted to get up go, in case I needed to say goodbye. Apparantly, I said no, she tried again, I said no. She thought it was very odd for me that I would refuse going, but her concern was the dog at that point.

So fast forward 7 hours to 8am, I wake up go downstairs, see my dog (surprisingly relaxed from the meds, thought she was dead for a second) then I saw an invoice and 2 doggie prescription bottles on the counter for tramadol and neurotnin. The invoice was timestamped 2:23am. So I went to my dad and said "would anyone like to inform me what the **** happened last night?" (not knowing that I was already told). He explained the whole thing, and then told me mom had tried to wake me and asked me if I wanted to go...I didn't believe him, so I asked my mom and she confirmed. She said I sounded awake and coherent so she thought I really didn't want to go. When I told her I didn't remember ANY of it, she said she was sorry, she really thought I was awake.

Sorry for the long story, but is there even a medical term for what happened? It has never happened before and all I can think of is that stupid drink. How can I have said "no I want to say home" in a full formed sentence so clear that my mom thought I was awake, and not remember any of it....it's like I got totally sloshed or something...but I don't drink. Plus I would NEVER in a million years say "no" to that when my dog could've died at the vet. (Thank god she came home or I never would forgive myself).

I have heard of people muttering in their sleep talking nonsense, but never heard of carrying on a coherent conversation with someone with no recollection of it. Scary....I have vowed to never drink one of those again because what if that had been a family member and not my dog? Scary! please help me rationalize this or anyone tell me if this has ever happened to them!

  49. QUESTION:
    Are HyDrive energy chews safe?
I haven't had much luck with monsters, and I drink coffee several times a week so my tolerance towards caffein isn't zero. But these energy chews WORK for me. Way too well actually. I had 2 packets (the max you should take in a day) and I felt the affects for 17 hours! 17!!! And I didnt even sleep... but didnt feel groggy or tired. Or hungry for that matter, despite having only one meal yesterday.

So now I'm eating a smaller amount, but it's still charging me with energy. I almost feel a little hyper, even though I've only had half a packet. But my question is... are these safe?? Do they have any bad reviews? Because they feel like some sort of prescription strength product. I SWEAR I'm not trying to spam these things. They just surprised me, because for me energy supplements usually don't do anything. 2 monsters is hardly noticeable. But these are like crack. I'm usually a drowzy person, not very energetic, poor focus, even though I'm only 21. That's why I ate them in the first place. The only time in my life I had something like this give me this kind of energy was back in highschool, when I tried a friend's ADHD(or ADD?) medicine. And this is why it concerned me a little. I'm a 21 year old male and weigh about 170.

    • ANSWER:
Yeah dude, thats some serious ****. You can definitely blow out your adrenal system if you use them regularly... which means you will always feel tired, caffeine won't affect you, and your body won't produce as much adrenalin, if any. Only take them if you need them. Ginkgo, taken with ginseng tea can solve your problem without the horrible effects. Btw two packets is an insane amount of B vitamins caffeine, and taurine. If i were you i would only do one packet, one contains more caffeine than 2 8 oz, cups of coffee, and coffee often contains more caffeine than an energy drink. If it is strong enough, of course.

  50. QUESTION:
Kind of a weird situation, 5 hour energy?
I slept all through the day before, until about 6pm. So obviously I'm going to be up all night. But the problem is, I HAVE to be awake through 6am to 5pm. Just to babysit my nephew, its not like I have school or work or anything. I know I'll be able to make it to noon, but its just the hours after that I don't think I'll be able to make it through. I don't drink coffee. (You know how there's that one drink or food that you even smell and you feel like throwing up? Yeah, well thats coffee for me.) My sister told me I should try the 5 hour energy shot. I have the berry flavor, and as far as I know it tastes like cough syrup, which I can definitely handle. Especially in a small amount. I've already read all the reviews and everything online, so I know what the possible side effects and health risks are. I'm just wondering how much of it I should drink exactly, but you're more than welcome to let me know of anything that I should be aware of. The reason of this is, I'm 17. But I'm pretty tiny, about 90lbs, so I'm a lightweight with everything xD
Anyways, should I only drink half to start off with, or less than that?

    • ANSWER:
You can drink it all if you like, I have in the past as I work nights and need to be up sometime during the day. I would start with half, and if you are starting to feel tired down the rest. If you drink it all at once you may feel like you have taken 10 pixie sticks and eaten them all at once. but should get use to it. Barring some kind of energy drink about the only thing you can do is stay active, don't sit for long periods.
