Energy Drinks Good Or Bad

VitaminWater really, really chaps my hide. Over and over ag 00004000 ain, I see people getting tricked by its sneaky, deceptive ways. Because it's called "VitaminWater" and is sold as a health drink, everyone assumes it is great. It also doesn't help that it says "50 calories" on the package...but there are actually 2.5 servings in the small bottle (bringing the calories to 125 total). It also has 33g of sugar! I checked 4 times to make sure that was right. It's a total sugar bomb! And by the way, other drinks list the whole bottle as 1 serving size, why, suddenly, is this one 2.5 servings?

There are several new vitamin enhanced waters with FAR fewer calories hitting the shelves. Get the skinny on these beverages below:

Skinny Water: Per bottle: Calories: 0, Fat: 0g, Sodium: 0mg, Carbs: 0g, Fiber: 0g, Protein: 0g, WW PTS: 0, Cals/mL: 0, Contains Artificial Sweeteners

Here's a drink with a new twist: these have 0 calories and are enhanced with acai berry extract, tea extracts, ginseng, B vitamins and minerals (calcium, potassium, chromium, niacin) to give you an energy boost. One bonus of Skinny Waters is that they contain higher levels of vitamins compared to many other vitamin waters (100% of the recommended daily intake for certain vitamins in each bottle). They also contain EGCG, the active ingredient in green tea, which is thought to suppress appetite (their website claims that Skinny Water improves weight loss by 350%). These also claim to have "0 sugars" which almost tricked me, but listed on the ingredients is sucralose (or brand name "Splenda"). Zero sugars only means no real sugar. Don't let the package fool you. As far as flavors go, Skinny Water currently has 5 flavors, and the 3 I tried had a tiny bit of a bitter after-taste. This acai flavor was the best one I had out of passionfruit lemonade (just OK) and raspberry pomegranate (gross). Given all of the great things it has going for it - packed with more vitamins, minerals, EGCG & other wellness additives than any other zero calorie vitamin water I have found - I'll drink this acai variety if I drink any "vitamin water".

Archer Farms (Target) Fortified Waters: Per bottle: Calories: 5, Fat: 0g, Sodium: 15mg, Carbs: 1g, Fiber: 0g, Protein: 0g, WW PTS: 0, Cals/mL: 0.01, Contains Artificial Sweeteners

Because I love the Lavender berry flavor, I decided to feature this drink from Archer Farms (or Target brand). However, they have a variety of fortified flavors: one for "beauty", one for "motion" that helps joints. You have to wonder though, do these waters live up to their billing? They contain relatively low levels of vitamins (around 20% of the recommended daily intake), much less than you would get in a multivitamin. Can that really relax or beautify you? One certain downside is that these contain artificial sweeteners. That said, if you are going to go with a low calorie vitamin water, I do love the flavor of these - it is a very mellow, subtle taste which is a nice change from some others that are SO overpowering.

Alive Water: Per bottle: Calories: 0, Fat: 0g, Sodium: 65mg, Carbs: 0g, Fiber: 0g, Protein: 0g, WW PTS: 0, Cals/mL: 0, Contains Artificial Sweeteners

Stayin' alive. Stayin' alive. Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah, Stayin' ALLLLIIIVVVE. This water tastes good, and this "protect" variety has Vit A & C (although only 25% of the recommended daily value per bottle). I do like the Dasani Plus vitamin waters better than Alive, because they taste better in my opinion. This water does contain sucralose and sodium, so if you are avoiding those in your beverages, this isn't for you.

Dasani Plus Waters: Per bottle: Calories: 0, Fat: 0g, Sodium: 62.5mg, Carbs: 0g, Fiber: 0g, Protein: 0g, WW PTS: 0, Cals/mL: 0, Contains Artificial Sweeteners

Dasani flavored waters always seem to have a very nice flavor and these are no exception. They have 4 different varieties and flavors for different vitamin, mineral, tea and ginseng combinations. They have defend + protect (orange tangerine, which is tasty), cleanse + restore (pomegranate blackberry, which is YUM), refresh + revive (which is kiwi strawberry, not my favorite) and a new calm + relax variety (lemon lime flavor, which is good). Each of them have varying B vitamins and minerals and of course, zero calories. However, like the Archer Farms fortified beverages, the amounts of vitamins in these Dasani waters are relatively low (about 25% of the recommended daily value per bottle). This has to make you question whether these waters can really calm, relax, defend, protect, cleanse, restore, refresh or revive you? These also contain artificial sweeteners which is a downside.

Joint Juice Waters: Per bottle: Calories: 10, Fat: 0g, Sodium: 55mg, Carbs: 1g, Fiber: 0g, Protein: 0g, WW PTS: 0, Cals/mL: 0.02, Contains Artificial Sweeteners

This glucosamine and vitamin enhanced water is specifically designed to be a supplement to those who are looking for greater mobility or improved joint function, and the vitamins are there for the energy boost. It tasted pretty good, no complaints there (I tried the berry and lemon flavors and definitely liked the berry flavor best). This does contain sodium and artificial sweeteners.

Propel Fitness Waters: Per bottle: Calories: 25, Fat: 0g, Sodium: 88mg, Carbs: 7.5g, Fiber: 0g, Protein: 0g, WW PTS: 0, Cals/mL: 0.02, Contains Artificial Sweeteners

Propel has been around forever and it's a good option. There are zillions of flavors, and they are a good source of vitamin B6 and niacin (about 75% of the recommended daily allowance) and an ok source of vitamins B12, C and E (about 25% of the daily recommended allowance) in the average 20 fl. oz water bottle. Basically, these are meant to provide energy and antioxidants. There is a new calcium version that provides 25% of the daily recommended amount of calcium, but I could not find this one to try yet. And all of these contain artificial sweeteners and sodium. All this being said, remember that simply taking a multi-vitamin provides you with 100% of your daily allowance of many vitamins and minerals, and has zero calories and NO artificial flavors, sweeteners or sodium!

    • ANSWER:
If on the ingredient label, any sweeteners labeled as aspartame, sucralose, or the like is on there, they are bad for you. I can't remember which is which, but aspartame is either the same as Sweet N Low or Nutrisweet. Sucralose is SPLENDA. SPLENDA is the newest sweetener on the market, but do you want to know what SPLENDA really is? It's chlorinated sugar. Just like table salt is chlorine and sodium, SPLENDA is chlorine and and sugar. I used to eat that stuff from the packet cuz I loved the taste so much when I would go to restaurants until I found out what it was made from. The best sweetener out there is called Stevia. It's all natural, just like sugar, but it has zero calories. It's made from the leaves of the Stevia plant. You can find it at health food stores. It has a different taste than sugar, but it's the safest sweetener out there that also has zero calories unlike sugar.

  10. QUESTION:
Energy drinks a good or bad idea?
I have heard that energy drinks can be helpfull when working out because they help your metabolism work faster making you lose more weight. Now with that i heard thats dangerous because it can make your heart go faster which could lead to heart failiure.

    So my question is:
Drinking a energy drink a good or bad idea before working out? Give details and hopefully sources.

    • ANSWER:
Terrible idea. Energy drinks dehydrate you, which is the last thing you want when working out. You want to drink lots of water when working out as you sweat and the water helps your joints, muscles, etc. Energy drinks will give you headaches when used in a workout as it is dehydrating you and is counterproductive. It won't do anything worse than coffee to your heart, but it doesn't help when working out.

    • ANSWER:
Well, unless you think 12 tablespoons of sugar is good for you, they are considered BAD. lol they do nothing for you besides sending your heart racing for a time being, loading you up with TONS of sugar, and then having your body come crashing down from the adrenaline rush wearing off. I stopped drinking energy drinks a year ago when I found out how much sugar I was drinking and was getting unbearable migranes from the adrenaline rush crash.

  13. QUESTION:
Hydrive Energy drinks. Good or bad?
    Hey there

So my local gas station sells these Hydrive energy drinks, but I was wondering about some stuff thats in it, if it is good or bad for you. Or possibly neither.

30 calories, 6g carbs, 6g of sugar per bottle.
    Other stuff is:
    Niacin
    Vitamin E
    Vitamin B6 and B12

do you like it? is it bad for me? is it good for me? what?

    • ANSWER:
Bad. Those things are awful for you. They increase your blood pressure, stress levels, and basically wear you out before your time. You should endeavor to stay away from caffeiene in general, but especially the concentrated caffeine and uppers you find in Red Bull, Vault, etc.

  15. QUESTION:
    Energy Drinks? Good or Bad?
I love my daily energy drink. It's sugar free and uncarbonated. Any good things about this? Bad things?

    • ANSWER:
I always believe in the saying, "having too much of one thing is never good." The ingredients in these energy drinks have not been studied enough for long term effects. If they don't contain caffeine, they have one thing. If they're sugar free then they have artificial sweetener. Some of these so called energy drinks can cause palpitations. Surge of energy, yes but at the end of the day, you are so exhausted and tired. Just take the drinks in moderation. It always safer that way.

  20. QUESTION:
Energy drinks - Good or Bad?
I'm pretty hooked on either Rockstar ZeroCarb or Blue Monsters. They make me less jittery than coffee and I never 'crash' off of them. I have heard some people say they are good for you b/c they have vitamins and other people say they are horrible for you. Any ideas and/or thoughts? If anyone knows of any studies done, that would be greatly appreciated too.

    • ANSWER:
I don't know about Blue Monsters, I do know that Rockstar is pretty tame by comparison to some energy drinks.

You want to watch out for the ones that are overloaded with stimulants, especially caffeine. Some of them now have as much caffeine as four cups of coffee--knocking down that much is likely to have some negative effects.

Also, think about the non-food ingredients. Does your body normally ingest artificial sweetener, artificial color, or high levels of carbonation? No. Have these things been PROVEN harmful? Far from. But moving your food and beverage consumption closer to natural seems like it would be wise.

  21. QUESTION:
    Energy Drinks good or bad?
How bad are energy drink really for you. I know they have a lot of sugars but i burn 10x more than that in just a couple hours so thats not bad but what about teh taurine adn guarana and stuff? What do they do and how are they bad? Especially in monsters? Those are the ones i drink the most i mean i only have like 2 or 3 a month so i dont drink them very often. Oh and which energy drink do you think is the worst? amp, monster, rockstar, full throttle, or nos?

    • ANSWER:
The worst part of energy drinks isn't the sugar, it's the caffeine. They have a lot more caffeine than coffee or soda. Caffeine raises blood pressure, causes headaches, irritability, shakes/jitters, and deprives you of sleep

  22. QUESTION:
What in energy drinks is good or bad for you and what are some good and bad affects?

    • ANSWER:
Basically everything in energy drinks are bad for you. i.e. guarine, taurine, caffeine, huge amounts of sugar, and other garbage chemicals. The only thing energy drinks do is give you a short burst of energy and then a terrible crash a little while later. They don't work for sports unless you use something like GU-energy gel packs or CLIF energy gel shotss. They only contain small amounts of caffeine and none of the other garbage.

Energy drinks will just mess with your bodies chemistry and reduce your efficiency.
If you want more energy, I suggest eating more natural carbs and fruits that are high in anti-oxidants.

I also recommend FRS energy, it is one of the better ones and doesn't contain guarine, taurine, etc... and it has a lot of anti-oxidants.

  23. QUESTION:
Are caffine and energy drinks such as red bull good or bad for weight loss?
i am currently trying to lose about ten kilos and have heard different things about caffine.. some people say its good for weight loss while others say its bad. I actually find energy drinks to really help me to have the stamina to get out there and exercise etc.. are these bad? i usually have the sugarfree ones.
    thanks very much!

    • ANSWER:
Caffeine is good for weight loss. It's known to boost metabolism. Not in a huge way, but it does make a little difference.

Red bull is fine too. It's mainly caffeine and taurine (an organic acid compound. occurs naturally in the body and plays several physiological roles)

Just look out for sugar. As little as possible on a diet. Take your coffee black and buy sugar free red bull.

  24. QUESTION:
    Energy drinks, good or bad?
I say bad, the last one I had before working out is preventing me from sleeping right now.

    :
    Good for health?!

    How exactly? :|

    • ANSWER:
Yes you are right they are mainly bad because most energy drinks contain almost twice as much that is in sugar believe it or not. This can lead to an ultimate sugar high soon after you drink them, which usually turns out to be a negative turn of events. If the energy drink had caffeine, which yours did because you can't sleep that is even worse, because your body needs sleep to get enough energy for the day. Studies find though that some energy drinks such as powerade, when used in small amounts during working out could help to restore energy levels so in this case their use would be considered good.

  25. QUESTION:
Is it good or bad for you to drink 2 energy drinks in less than 6 hours????

    • ANSWER:
Bad, 'cause it will probably leave you drained eventually.

  26. QUESTION:
Are Energy drinks bad for loosing weight?
im 13 (please nothing your too young stuff) and im 173cm tall and weigh about 62kg. i got some fat around my stomach that i want to get rid of so BAD really i really want it gone! I wanted to build a six pack as some of my class mates have ones so i wont be called fatty anymore and i want to build muscles. so i started to run every second day for around 2km to loose weight, after my runs i was very tierd and was unable to continue. i started to eat healthy like i cut down on white bread, pasta etc and now i eat the dark bread :D or salad or apples between 2-4h to keep my metabolism up. Also i got a dumbbell and started to do strength training like between 2-3 days. So few days ago i drank a monster energy drink i checked it had around 40calories so i dident think its gonna kill my diet. Are the energy drinks bad if i use them before my workouts to get a boost. And it woked i jogged like 5km streight and was amazed my self too my legs and stomach were in pain but i was able to run the next day again :) i think i used up the things i consumed from the energy drink and even more. i felt awsome. So are the energy drinks good or bad? and any tips for getting a sixpack/loosing weight i know i need to drop my bodyfat % downlow :P

    • ANSWER:

  27. QUESTION:
Monster Energy Drinks Good or Bad?
I want to try 1 but i feel like it might kill me . I read that if its not the drink, its how much you take it . I was thinking like 1 or 2 every 2 weeks...

    • ANSWER:
Monster energy drinks are actually not all that bad. the caffeine content is about 80 mg per eight ounces, which means 160 mg of caffeine per can.

Starbucks brews have 160 mg of caffeine per eight fluid ounces, which is twice the amount of monster so......

My suggestion is to watch out for the sugar content mainly, thats usually what contributes to a lot of the "kick" that people feel when drinking monster. go for the low carb or zero carb and i really dont think it makes too much a difference whether you drink monster or regular coffee, although monsters can be quite pricey.

  28. QUESTION:
are energy drinks good for you or bad for you ???

    • ANSWER:
Most energy drinks are just a little worse than sodas are. They normally have extra sugar and caffeine than a soda might. Some might use ingredients like taurine or guarana that is questionable too. However, many do add some B vitamins and ginseng which the sodas don't do and they are beneficial for you.

The healthy energy drinks are much better. There is XS Energy, Tab, 5 Hour Energy and Stacker's 6 Hour Power.

  29. QUESTION:
Are energy drinks mostly bad or good for you?

    • ANSWER:
Hi I don't drink them the sugar isn't good. I've also heard their not good for the younger kids.. I would drink a vitamin water they're refreshing and taste good. grandma sue

  30. QUESTION:
Is drinking this energy drink good or bad for me?
it's called Xenergy and it has no calories, sugar, or carbohydrates. It does have huge amounts of B vitamins though... like 250-500% per serving. will this benefit me or not?

    • ANSWER:
As a general rule I try to stay away from energy drinks. Loads of B vitamins could possibly be a very high dose of Niacin in disguise (this ordinarily is not a bad thing but some people have adverse reactions to larger doses. Like myself I get really hot and everything gets itchy as hell).

My energy drink of choice consists of green tea, yerba mate', or a little coffee. If you're looking for a workout boost I would recommend yerba or green tea.

Remember: the fewer artificial chemicals you put into your body, the less stress you place on your self-cleaning mechanisms, and the more energy can go towards exercise/work/recovery/recreation...whatever it is you want.

      Hope this helped.

  31. QUESTION:
Is drinking several energy drinks a day good or bad for you and why?

    • ANSWER:
Unfortunately, they're not that good for you. Not only do they have a lot of unhealthy sugars, but the caffeine they use can make you "crash" at the worst possible time. Not to mention there are side effects like tremblers and jitters. I would recommend one and instead of slamming it, spread it through a small period of time to maximize its effect instead of drinking four as quickly as you can because it won't do much good. There's only so much caffeine will do.

  32. QUESTION:
Do energy drinks have any good or bad adverse health effects?

    • ANSWER:
Most of them contain vitamins and minerals that would have good health effects... however, they also contain caffeine and other chemical compounds that have little or no positive health effects, and may negatively impact ones health.

Consuming one or two every once in a while isn't likely to have a measurable impact on your health... drinking them all day, every day would be bad though.

  33. QUESTION:
Rockstar energy drink, good or bad?
Please let me know, with specific, reliable information only (please, no personal stories unless absolutely necessary or simple "yes/no" style replies) if Rockstar (the regular 16oz. kind or the Juiced 16oz. kind) is good or bad for a person who drink it maybe 3 or 4 times a week, but will rarely go some weeks where one is drunk every day. What damage can be caused by this habit or what good can be caused.
    Thank you very much.

    • ANSWER:
I use to drink 1 a week but now im only 1 every 3 weeks.

-although u an i know abt the caffine addiction an crash stuff already. these are only minor affects towards u.

-But permanent affects may be: balding, poor appetite, and anger issues. or loss in semen

-its not the caffeine that creates this but the guarana, ginseg, and milk thistle with in these drinks.

+dont worry abt people saying you'll get addicted to caffeine, because you wont, unless u drink coffee 2+ times a day.

The commercials say that there's no sugar crash or bad side effects. I was just wondering if the 5 hour energy drinks actually work and what you all think of them? And are they healthy?

the commercial is always just trying to influence you to buy the product.

5 hour energy may say you wont crash but the next day you will feel more tired the usual. also it is bad for you, tons of fake sugar (thats why they said no sugar because they put artificial sugar which is worse)

    • ANSWER:
Vault isn't really an energy drink. Coke markets it as an energy drink but it only uses caffeine and doesn't have that much caffeine. Vault is pretty much the same as Mountain Dew. Energy drinks use amino acids and herbs to provide energy. L-Carnitine makes your food process into energy rather than waste. Taurine and Glucuronolactone are metabolizing chemicals your body produces and Panax Ginseng is an herb that promotes wellness (panacea= heal all, panax comes from the same root word). Long story short Vault is Mountain Dew with slightly more caffeine.

  39. QUESTION:
I have energy drinks before I do my exams; is that good or bad?
I don't get much sleep at night and I find energy drinks help me wake up and give me the energy I need to function quicker. I'm not sure if it's just in my head though; anyone know if they actually help or even hinder you?

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I would say hinder. While it is true they can help keep you up, what's more important is the other effects. It doesn't take much energy to keep you sitting still, all the excess energy makes alot of people jittery and impatient. Being impatient during an exam is terrible, you miss details and often rush through performing less than usual. Plus you could experience a crash and miss alot or not follow directions. You're better off just eating breakfast, I don't sleep much (3-5 hours a night) and do fine as long as i eat

Just how bad are energy drinks for you?
My mom keeps harassing me that I drink to many energy drinks, I usualy drink every day or so. I don't drink them to give me energy they just taste good. So just how bad are full throttle and monster drinks for you?
As far as obesity goes, Im pretty sure I don't have to worry about that, Im 5'1 and not even 90lbs. and Eww... Protein shakes.....

    • ANSWER:
The thing is these drinks will get you all jacked up and hyper. When you finally calm down from it you'll feel extra tired.I tell my kids to avoid Monster at all costs.Plus I've noticed that my daughter starts craving it after she's been drinking it for a few days.It may have addictive substances in it or maybe it's the sugar.Either way it's not good for you. You'd be better off having your mom whip you up a high protein drink in the blender if you want to have more energy.Even coffee in moderation isn't as bad as those energy drinks!

  42. QUESTION:
How Energy Drinks Bad For You?
So I am writing an article for my high school's magazine (CCA's "pulse") and my big question for my article is "why/how are energy drinks bad for you?" So please answer and be specific on why they are bad or not bad. Also give good sources like doctors, ect.
    Thanks :D

    • ANSWER:
They are high in calories and sugar. They give you an energy boost and then you crash later. It's just a quick fix that doesn't last long and then you are even tireder then before you drank the energy drink. They also raise your heart rate too much....my friend went to the hospital because his heart rate went up so high....the doctors said he can't drink them anymore.

  43. QUESTION:
    Are energy drinks good?
What is the difference between energy drinks and soda? Why do they cost a lot more? Are energy drinks more good or more bad? What vitamins are good in them? Do they really give you energy? To me it does not seems like it.

    • ANSWER:
Energy drinks have a lot more caffeine than regular sodas. Usually energy drinks have a lot more sugar too. Energy drinks also have other stimulants in addition to the caffeine. Sods usually have sugar and a small amount of caffeine.

They cost a lot more because of all of the advertising, because they sponsor a lot of high end events. Also, they can be addictive and addicts will simple pay the higher price.

Energy drinks are not good nor bad. Once in a while for a boost if you need to finish a work project, study for school and the like they should be ok. Not a good idea to do them too often though.

Some energy drinks have vitamins while others do not. The vitamins can be ok but they are usually stimulant vitamins like B.

Do they give you energy? Yes to hell yes!

  44. QUESTION:
Are Energy Drinks bad for the male reproductive system?
I have heard that they are and I want to get to the bottom of this. I drink about 1 energy drink a month (if even that). Some also told me that Taurine is bad for you from what I have read it sounds good. If someone can show me some websites or tell me somewhere I can go to get some information that would be great. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
Don't drink those things. They're really not all they're cracked up to be. The energy lasts only for a little while and then you crash. Eat a normal healthy diet and you'll get all the energy you need.

are four loko's, joose, tilts, or any other alcoholic energy drinks bad for you?
i was wondering because i know that way too many monsters and all the other types of energy drinks are not too good for the body after a while. so is it worse now that these are not only energy drinks, but they contain liquor?
i just want to know what i am putting in my body.

    • ANSWER:
Well considering that exceptional amounts of energy drinks and alcohol is already bad for you on their own imagine what they would be doing to your body when put together.
They are particularly bad for your heart as the alcohol will try and slow your heart down whilest the caffiene tries to get it racing.

One scientist on a news report I watched said that such alcoholic drinks have been known to give off the same feelings as speed or crystal meth!
