The natural health researchers at Institute for Vibrant Living (IVL) have investigated the natural remedies available for low energy levels. Here is their report:
Energy Drink Craze - Caffeine and Sugar
There is no doubt that energy drinks can be great. However, many energy drinks have a problem in that they contain caffeine.
In fact, many energy drinks are simply loaded with caffeine and lots of it. Too much caffeine can leave you feeling anxious and jittery and, of course, there are other issues as well.
When the caffeine "high" wears off, you are left feeling more exhausted than ever. This makes most energy drinks less than an ideal solution for your daily energy requirements.
A second major issue is that many energy drinks are loaded down with sugar in some form or another. Sugar has no real value for your body and provides truly empty calories.
Just like caffeine, when your sugar high is over, your energy is over as well.
Labels Can Be Deceptive
Unfortunately, many people buy energy drinks without realizing that they are usually packed with sugar and caffeine. The ads for energy drinks can be deceptive, as they usually emphasize how they contain vitamins and herbs that work to stimulate the body.
Often the caffeine in energy drinks will be disguised under the label of "guarana" or "yerba mate." It is important to carefully read all energy drink labels.
The best energy boosting option is one that will help you keep your energy throughout the day and at the same time give your body some much needed nutrition. A great way of doing this is to look for products that provide your body with healthy nutrition.
A Green Drink Alternative
All Day Energy Greens is a perfect example of a product that can give your body the energy that it needs and provide you with health and nutrition at the same time.
Moreover, All Day Energy Greens may do this without the sugar, caffeine and other potentially harmful additives that your body simply doesn't need.
All Day Energy Greens is a different type of approach to the energy drink dilemma in that this energy drink contains 38 herbs, herbal extracts as well as grass juices blended together into a uniquely tasty mix.
This is an energy drink that was designed to improve digestion, help you gain muscle, improve your energy level and infuse your body with nutrition.
But Wait -There's More
All Day Energy Greens is about energy and nutrition. It contains an impressive array of ingredients designed to give you what your body needs. With 633% of Vitamin C and 667% of Vitamin E, you know that you are getting a major vitamin boost.
Other nutritious and detoxifying ingredients such as spirulina and chlorella actually help to detoxify your body unlike most energy drinks, which are high in sugar.
In short, with All Day Energy Greens you know that you are doing something great for your body, thanks to an array of nature's best ingredients.
We are tooting our own horn here, but this really can make a positive difference in many people's metabolisms and may contribute to their overall well being.

QUESTION:
Is it safe for my little sister and her friend to drink energy drinks?
Well, my sister and her friend always bother
me to run them to the store so they can buy a
variety of little energy drinks. They buy stuff like
red bull, monster, rockstar, vault, sobe, etc.
They're 16oz bottles.I told her that I wouldn't do it anymore because
I don't think it's good for their heart and since
they're young (12&13).They claim they drink 2 bottles a day but I still
don't trust them or even think that's safe. What i'm asking is if it's safe for them to drink it
or what do you think their limit is and what
are the side effects?my little sister is a tiny girl and
her friend is overweight.-
ANSWER:
Energy drinks are full of sugar, caffeine, and B12. B12 is not dangerous, but the caffeine and sugar are. Even diet versions are full of caffeine, which can be very damaging. Caffeine is an appetite stimulant and a diuretic, forcing water from the body and causing many people to eat more out of an artificial sense of hunger. Most of those drinks are also carbonated and the phosphoric acid present depleats bones of calcium, which is especially dangerous for teenagers, who should up their calcium intake to build stronger bones during adolescence. And 16oz is way too much, for even an adult it's ridiculous. No one needs these things, but even for those just wanting a boost, one 6-8oz serving is more than enough. They'd probably feel just as good (though not as cool) adding a good multivitamin to their diets. Maybe offer to buy them some other type of fancy drinks instead (juices like odwalla, naked, or some of the kerns nectars, even tea blends from sobe, snapple, hansens and POM are safer than the energy drinks, though they are still high in sugar). When I was younger, I felt really special when I was treated to a "cocktail" at my neighbors' house. The cocktails were always some sort of juice (usually orange, cranberry, or tropical guava or pineapple), mixed with a splash of 7up or hansen's soda, and occasionally featuring a drizzle of grenadine or other fruit syrup. These were always served in small, fancy glasses (6-8oz), over ice. As an older teenager, I tended towards juice mixes and gatorade (still sugary, but no caffeine).
If you offer options, and explain why the energy drinks are so bad for her age group, maybe she'll change her habits. Good Luck! ^_^

QUESTION:
She doesn't eat and all she drinks is sugar free energy drinks. What will this do to her body?
I know she has an eating disorder and that I can't help her, but I still want to know what is going on with her. I always see her drinking those energy drinks that have caffeine and taurine. I guess the reason is that she has no real energy anymore because she won't eat.-
ANSWER:
Diabes most likely, not to mention electrolyte deficiencies (hypokalemia, etc.). Her adrenals will also start to suffer. Not to mention the horrid effect from not eating. She needs to see a specialist who can treat the eating disorder, and needs to have blood tests done to check for imbalances.

QUESTION:
My Friend Lets Her Nine Year Old Son Drink Energy Drinks Like Rockstars, Monsters, & Red Bull, Is This Safe?-
ANSWER:
I am a teacher who goes into schools and teaches a nutrition program. We ALWAYS tell the kids to NEVER drink energy drinks. They are very unhealthy and children die from overdosing on them all the time. We tell stories of children who died of a heart attack after drinking 2 or 3 in a short amount of time. If she values the life of her child i would highly suggest not giving him energy drinks.

I'm at a friends house and we were in her backyard and my rockstar energy drink fell over and spilled. QUESTION:
what happens if you drink two energy drinks on a empty stomach?
my friend hasnt eaten since last night and she is on her second energy and i wanna know what and how she will feel. i dont think its a good idea.-
ANSWER:
Listen, she could get in big trouble if she abuses those things. Energy drinks have a high caffeine content. over 200 mg of caffeine a day is considered caffiene overdose, which can lead to seizures, strokes, muscle spasms, hallucinations, racing heart palpitations, and worse. Google caffeine overdose. It's not good and you should tell her to be careful and her parents if they are unaware.

QUESTION:
Do You Allow Your Kids To Drink Energy Drinks?
I admit that I don't know much about them and have never used one - drinks like Red Bull, MONSTER...My daughter (7th grader) tells me that "lots of people in her class drink them"
Is this stuff good for kids?
-
ANSWER:
No. Absolutely not. I have a teenager going through puberty and she has severe ADD. An energy drink? If I want to ruin my day and everyone elses that comes into contact with her- then I guess. But no. She does have energy drinks when she stays over at friends houses. I really don't understand why parents are cool with loading kids up on energy drinks during sleepovers but whatever. It's their night down the drain, not mine.

QUESTION:
My sister is battling hepatitis c and is completely fatigued. What can she do to get her energy level up?
We (the family) has checked out all the websites and recommendations but none work. How is a person with no energy at all (not even to get to work on time) supposed to "stay active" as a remedy to fatigue?? Makes no sense to me....What can she do to make sure she can keep her job (and therefore insurance to treat this thing)? We've tried coffee, its only a temporary fix and the caffiene is not good for her. Neither are energy drinks. She has always been a health eater, so that really isn't helping anything right now. What else works in this situation?
-
ANSWER:
I currently have a blood pressure problem (it will go sky high and drop really low in around a minute) and sadly, fatigue is one hibg I have to deal with, like your sister. What I have found, is that when I get up I don't want to move... At all. Not even to eat. So I'll get some sweet tea (because of the caffeine) and drink it the morning to start moving. Like you said, coffee is only a temporary fix. But if you give her coffee and get her to start moving, she should be better. Ir always works for me. Also after school I get tea or a pepsi or coffee and drink some of that. Then (if it's nice out) I'll go outside an relax and just mess around. I don't know why but it really helps. I still feel like poo in the morning, but it feels no different than getting 2 hours of sleep. After tea and about a half hour, I feel like I it 16 hours of sleep. Just keep er on cafiene and keep her moving. This is the third week I'm dealing with the blood pressure problem and I feel loads better. I hope it works with your sister too!!

ANSWER:
Go ahead and thumbs down me, but... You don't need any energy drinks and you know it. You have tons of energy! The truth is you are looking to get an almost "high" from these drinks, aren't you? I understand, I love that elevated feeling of caffeine, it makes me feel like I can do ANYTHING, but stick to your mountain dew and chocolate for now, ok? There will come a day when the "want" will turn sharply into a "need", save your tolerance levels until you really need it. With grown up issues. You know I love you and only want what's best for you. Trust me on this one.Love you,

QUESTION:
what are the effects of drinking the energy drink Monster or other energy drinks during preganacy?
i have this friend who is 17 and pregnant for the first time.she has no knowledge of pregnancy.i told her not to drink energy drinks while preganant.i didn't give reasons why as i dont know for sure.but i am thinking that if it speeds up our own heart rate it would the baby's as well right?could it cause heart defects, heart failure, or the heart to burst?she doesnt listen and i need facts to back up what i will tell her so she doesnt harm her baby for her own stupidity.
i just read my can of monster and it does say not recomended for pregnant women.monster contains taurine ,panax ginseng, L-carnitine ,guarana ,inositol, glucuronolctone ,and maltodextrin.
-
ANSWER:
They all have caffein in high doses which isn't good for the unborn child. Also some contain taurin which is harmfull for the unborn child - the energy drink I have in mind actually has a warning printed on the can that says that pregnant women should not consume the drink. There are also other things in it that can cause deformities in the fetus. I read up on energy drinks when I was pregnant because I also liked them, but decided not to take any chances and didn't have any eversince.

ANSWER:
Bull" DrinksS.O.B.
No, it's not what you think. Your mother won't get offended with this one. It's Stoli Orange and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. Ask the guys at Freeskier Magazine about this one. An orange wedge for garnish.Bazooka Bull
It'll blow your mind out of the canon! It's Bacardi Limon and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. Tastes like a Bazooka Joe Bubble Gum.Blaster
It started in Europe and made its way to Denver. Presentation is important with this. A pint glass with a can of Red Bull on top with it's tab open so that the can will rest on the glass and pour on its own while the bartender pours the Jagermeister into a shot glass. Drop the shot of Jager into the glass of Red Bull and chug. Also known in Breckenridge as a "Bullmeister".Dirty Little Bastard
Created by some bartenders in Montana, this one consists of a pint glass filled with ice and a shot of Bacardi 151, fill with Red Bull and a float of Jagermeister. Drink it through a straw till it's gone. Keep your hands on the glass, not the person sitting next to you.Depth Charger
There is some controversy over this one. Whatever they call it, it's much like the Blaster only you substitute Stoli Vanilla and Grand Marnier for the Jager. Remember, presentation is important. Create fun!Chambull
Simple! Champagne (the real stuff made in France!) mixed with Red Bull. Bring on the bubbles. Champagne glass with a cherry on the bottom.Kiss-A-Bull
A little flava added to the bull. A shot of apple, grape, cherry, watermelon, or peach Pucker and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. A cherry garnish is a nice touch.Tish & Terry
Created by the bartenders who discovered it in Portland, Oregon. Finlandia cranberry vodka and Red Bull. Served as a highball on the rocks. Lime wedge garnish.Bull Royale

QUESTION:
Why is it possible to light red bull energy drink on fire?
I recently watched my cousin open a can of sugar-free Red Bull and light it on fire. Her prof assigned it as homework. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a large flame, but it certainly was on fire. I was with her when she bought it and brought it home, so there was no trickery involved. I am baffled... any ideas as to why?
Also, it doesn't matter whether it reg. Red Bull or Sugar free.-
ANSWER:
could be the sweetener which could be a different type sugar then sucrose. and i have seen sugar catching fire so i am pretty sure that it is the sugar in the drink.

ANSWER:
Top 4 Foods Guaranteed To Give You a Burst of Energy
By: Marci LallOatmeal
Eating oatmeal can do wonders to your body. It’s high in fiber, low in fat, and low in calories. In addition, consuming oatmeal helps prevent heart disease by lowering your bad cholesterol (LDL) and increasing your good cholesterol (HDL). Oatmeal’s also great because it’s a meal in which you can customize and be as creative as you want. You can top it off with fruit, nuts, or berries for some added flavor and nutrients.
Yogurt
Throughout the years yogurt has been sky-rocketing in popularity. This calcium-rich food keeps your bones staying super strong and helps fight off any infections by increasing your immune system.
Another added benefit is the live bacteria in yogurt. These good bacteria help to keep your intestinal tract functioning at its optimal level. Now you don’t need to go out and buy the yogurt with high fat or extra fat content. You’ll get the same benefits with the low-fat or non-fat versions. Just like oatmeal you can also add fruits, nuts, berries, or high fiber cereals to give your yogurt an extra kick in nutritional value and flavor.
Spinach
Have you ever watched Popeye? If you have, then you know what happens when he gets his spinach fix. His muscles pop out and he gets this great big burst of energy and ends up beating the crap out of the guy.
My point is not to eat spinach and beat the crap out of people but that spinach holds many nutrients that will give you that extra boost of energy.
Spinach is a vegetable that’s packed with vitamins, minerals and super healing powers. On top of that it’s a great source for antioxidants, and folic acid that will help protect you from many diseases. Research has also shown that spinach may lower your risk of strokes, colon cancer, cataracts, heart disease, osteoporosis, hip fractures, memory loss, Alzheimer's disease, depression, and even birth defects.
Canned Salmon, Tuna, or Sardines
A big thing hitting the media now-a-days is heart health. Salmon, tuna, and sardines are three fishes that are loaded with essential, heart-healing, inflammation-fighting omega-3 fatty acids. Getting these fish into your daily eating plan is pretty easy. You can just add them to a fresh tossed salad; add them into a sandwich or as a snack on some healthy crackers.
Exercising but don't have the energy to get through it? Add these 4 foods into your eating plan and watch you energy levels soar through the roof...

QUESTION:
Besides energy drinks, what can my 11yr.old child have to wake her up?
my daughter has a soccer game early in the morning & she went to sleep later than I was hoping for. what can she eat or drink right before her game that won't upset her stomach and hopefully give her a boost because I know she's going to be tired. I heard eating chocolate candy worked?-
ANSWER:
The problem with chocolate is that the energy wears out very fast, and she'd soon crash, probably before the game's over.Since the game is early in the morning and very soon after getting up, I recommend a good cold (or cool if it's too much for her) shower right after getting up and a complete breakfast. That should get her nice and alert for a few hours. By the time her energy wears down due to lack of sleep, the game should be over and she could take a nap or something.
Good luck....

QUESTION:
Can I drink a rockstar energy drink if I'm nursing?
My daughter isn't that sensitive to caffeine. I drink about 2 cans of soda (with caffeine) per day and it doesn't bother my daughter at all. Occasionally I'll drink a big cup of coffee with no effects from her.
I'm not sure how strong the energy drink is.
If I drink it in moderation all throughout the day, will it be okay?
*I'll be sure to watch for signs of fussiness from my baby.
Does it have alcohol in it? I'm clueless. lol-
ANSWER:
No, Rockstar does not have alcohol. But it's still not healthy for you or your baby. Just because your daughter does not display obvious effects of caffeine, she IS being affected. Caffeine messes with a child's development, even out of the womb. Why do you need an energy boost? If you must drink coffee, drink caffeine free. It tastes the same, and no harm to the baby. If you can't do that, just monitor your caffeine intake.

QUESTION:
POLL - What does the energy drink, mother do to you?
My friend will always buy a mother after we go shopping. Then on the way back in the car (night time) she will stick her head out of the car and scream at people xDShe does it every time because it's from being so hypo! What does it do to you?
-
ANSWER:
These drinks tends to be high in sugar and caffeine. They can raise your blood pressure and heart rate very high. They are NOT soft drinks (although they are marketed as one). Large amount over a period of time can be detrimental to the body.there is always some warning on the label. But they are always too small for you to bother reading anyway. The warning usually say something like "do not drink more than 2 a day" .
Personally - I wouldn't recommend ANYONE under 15 years old to drink it.
Worse case scenario is death from heart attackThere are anecdotal evidence that people have died from indirect result of drinking too much of this stuff. I have read of a case in my local area where one young man drank 5 of these drink in one hit then got "wild" and drove his car into a brick wall.
DON'T under estimate what can happen to you or your friend.
I know my answer is long and probably bordering on "lecturing" but I hate to see another person die or their health permanently impaired from their young age.
Cheers from Australia
