What is in your popular Lo-Carb Energy Drink?
Carbonated Water
Your Lo Carb Energy Drinks are comprised of Carbonated Water, and a series of weak additives that mostly are used as food preservatives. The only plant derived things in a Monster is a Root Ginseng Extract, and Guarana Extract. The Guarana Extract is not listed in any measurement. There is a reason why you can buy these "Energy" drinks on sale at convenience stores...there is no real energy in the drinks. It's carbonated water with chemicals and two plants.
The Caffeine is not from natural sources.
Scientifically speaking, you can not have real energy without "Carbohydrates!" Figure that one out when the Carbs are listed as 3g on the can I am reviewing. The fake sugars trick you into thinking you have energy, and then the crash comes!
The "Natural Flavors" are not listed by ingredient...so what is natural about the flavor. Well look at the masking sugar substitutes, and you will get the base of the flavor along with corn starch.
The Energy Blend
The "Energy" is comprised of Glucose, and then L-Carnitine, which are both pretty basic and easy to come by. The 2500mg of "Energy" also includes Inositol, something that scientific research deems as non-essential for human nutrition. Further, Maltodextrin is basically corn starch, and is also listed as part of the "energy blend." Maltodextrin is absorbed by the body immediately and along with the fake sugars and processed caffeine is part of the reason for the "crash" you receive about forty minutes after you drink one of these products. Glucuronolactone is the last of the "Energy Blend. Rumor goes on to say that Glucuronolactone was banned due to several brain tumor-related deaths back in the 1970's. No scientific proof of this, but why even try?!!!
The Ingredients
Below are all of the listed ingredients in a very popular Lo Carb "Energy Drink." We are what we eat. What we eat should also be fuel. The FOOD we put in our bodies should produce energy. What we put in our body should be nutritional. We are all comprised of cells. I think we forget that we are a living, breathing organism! Remember, 1/4 of what we eat keeps us alive (it does not necessarily keep us healthy), 3/4 of what Americans eat keeps the pharmaceutical companies, big government, and doctors in business!
Glucose
Glucose is a ubiquitous fuel in biology. It is used as an energy source in most organisms, from bacteria to humans. Glucose is a primary source of energy for the brain, and hence its availability influences psychological processes. When glucose is low, psychological processes requiring mental effort.
Citric Acid
Citric acid is a weak organic acid, and it is a natural preservative and is also used to add an acidic, or sour, taste to foods and soft drinks. In biochemistry, it is important as an intermediate in the citric acid cycle and therefore occurs in the metabolism of virtually all-living things. It can also be used as an environmentally benign cleaning agent. Where does the Citric Acid come from in this beverage? No citrus fruits are listed.
Natural Flavors
What are these natural flavors? No fruit or berries are listed as an ingredient on the can???
Taurine
Taurine is an organic acid. It is also a major constituent of bile and can be found in the lower intestine and in small amounts in the tissues of many animals. Taurine is necessary for normal skeletal muscle functioningabut humans naturally produce Taurine.
Sodium Citrate
It possesses a saline, or mildly tart, flavor. Trisodium citrate is chiefly used as a food additive, usually for flavor or as a preservative.
Color Added
Where is the color added from? No ingredients or dye's are listed???
Panax Ginseng Root Extract
aPanaxa is the aGenusa of the Ginseng Family. Ginseng has a healing effect, as well as a stimulant quality.
Caffeine
In humans, caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant, having the effect of temporarily warding off drowsiness and restoring alertness. The caffeine in these drinks either originates from the ingredients used or is an additive derived from the product of decaffeination or from chemical synthesis.
Sorbic Acid
Sorbic Acid is a natural organic compound used as a food preservative. Sorbic acid and its mineral salts, such as sodium sorbate, potassium sorbate and calcium sorbate, are antimicrobial agents often used as preservatives in food and drinks to prevent the growth of mold, yeast and fungi. In general, the salts are preferred over the acid form because they are more soluble in water.
Sucralose
Sucralose is a zero-calorie sugar substitute artificial sweetener. Sucralose is approximately 600 times as sweet as sucrose (table sugar),[2] twice as sweet as saccharin, and 3.3 times as sweet as aspartame. It is manufactured by the selective chlorination of sucrose (table sugar), which converts three of the hydroxyl groups to chlorides.
Benzoic Acid
This weak acid and its salts are used as a food preservative. Benzoic acid is an important precursor for the synthesis of many other organic substances. Benzoic acid is used to make a large number of chemicals!!! Benzoic acid is present as part of hippuric acid (N-Benzoylglycine) in urine of mammals, especially herbivores.
L-Carnitine
In living cells, it is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria during the breakdown of lipids (or fats) for the generation of metabolic energy
Nicotinamide
Nicotinamide has demonstrated the ability to block the inflammatory actions of the body. It is also known to help with skin disorders such as acne. It is not a naturally occurring substance.
Acesulfame Potassium
Acesulfame potassium is a calorie-free artificial sweetener. Acesulfame K is often blended with other sweeteners (usually sucralose or aspartame). These blends are reputed to give a more sugar-like taste whereby each sweetener masks the other's aftertaste, and/or exhibits a synergistic effect by which the blend is sweeter than its components.
Sodium Chloride
Sodium Chloride is commonly used as a food preservativeait's salt.
Glucuronolactone
Glucuronolactone is a naturally occurring chemical produced by the metabolism of glucose in the human liver. It is an important structural component of nearly all connective tissues. Glucuronolactone is also found in many plant gums. It has received some notoriety due to urban legends that it was a Vietnam War-era drug manufactured by the American government. The rumor goes on to say that it was banned due to several brain tumor-related deaths.
Inositol
Is an isomeric alcohol found in the Vitamin B complex. There is no evidence that it is a dietary essential for human beings.
Guarana Seed Extract
Guarana may indeed boost energy, since its main ingredient is guaranine, which is chemically identical to caffeine.
Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
A crystalline compound, decomposing at about 208C; used in medicine in vitamin therapy. Also known as pyridoxal hydrochloride; vitamin B6 hydrochloride. Your body does not absorb this chemical, and we hope it gets peed out!
Riboflavin
Riboflavin is the principal growth-promoting factor in the vitamin B complex. Also known as vitamin B2. Riboflavin is involved in a wide range of oxidation reactions, of fats, carbohydrates, and amino acids.
Maltodextrin
Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide that is used as a food additive. It is hydrolysate produced from starch and is usually found as a creamy-white hygroscopic spray dried powder. Maltodextrin is easily digestible, being absorbed as rapidly as glucose, and might be either moderately sweet or almost flavorless. It is basically a Corn Starch with no nutritional benefits.
Cyanocobalamin
It is Vitamin B-12, and is the easiest to crystallize and therefore easiest to purify after it is produced by bacterial fermentation. Cyanocobalamin usually does not even occur in nature, and is not one of the forms of the vitamin which is directly used in the human body
Note:
Remember that certain processing, as with sugar and white flour, tends to significantly reduce B vitamin content. Certain things such as "Corn Starch" can drain the power of any Vitamin B Complex.

Monster energy drink stimulating the brain?
what ingredient/vitamin(s) in that Monster energy drinks or any energy drink that seems to make u more outgoing or communicate around people more....or what part of the brain is it stimulating?-
ANSWER:
First off, you cannot get "head problems" from energy drinks as one misinformed person said. Caffeine helps stimulate the brain and increase alertness and concentration. It even helps some people with ADD focus! B12 and Caffeine help increase concentration a lot and are good to have in moderation. To be honest, I'm not sure what part of the brain it's stimulating, but I know it helps!

QUESTION:
Does anyone know why I broke out in hives when I drank a Monster Energy Drink?
I have never been allergic to anything in my life aside from spores etc in nature, and I know that as you get older the chances of developing allergies to different things increases. But I have drank many Monster Energy Drinks and never had the problem. I am just curious if anyone knows exactly which ingredient it is that I reacted to by chance so that I can know to look for that in future products. I appreciate any help I get regarding this and I thank you ahead of time.-
ANSWER:
Could be one of the herbal ingredients, or just the caffeine, or maybe artifical dyes and flavorings. You'd have to have an allergist give you an allergy test.

QUESTION:
Is Nitrous Monster energy drink healthy for you?
It says in the ingredients that is has nitrous, and carbon dioxide in it.-
ANSWER:
The nitrous oxide and the carbon dioxide are not the issue really. carbon dioxide in beverages has been thought to be healing actually...Monster energy drinks are not healthy because of the amounts of sugar and caffeine. Sugary soft drinks are never healthy, so no Monster is not healthy for you.
No, nitrous wouldn't kill you in such a small amount... I doubt if they even put it in the drink... It might just be the name. Not sure. Like nitrous gives cars a boost, the energy drink will give you a boost.
anyways...
Nitrous will get you high, its laughing gas =]
But, I doubt they put enough to get you high in the drinkNow, inhale compressed nitrous from a tank for a car, and that will freeze your lungs, and yes you will die. The release isn't controlled enough to inhale it safely.
Too much nitrous can kill you, but then again drinking too much water can also kill you. Too much of ANYTHING will kill you. It just matters on how much it takes to kill you, and some substances require such a high amount, it just isn't feasible to consume that much.

QUESTION:
What is Taurine, L-Carnitine, & Panax Ginseng that is inside the Monster Energy drink?
helpful or harmful stuff? If you have any info about the other agents in this drink do suggest or add on. The language in the ingredients is foreign to me-
ANSWER:
Taurine - 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid
L-Carnitine - 3-hydroxy-4-(trimethylazaniumyl)butanoate
Panax Ginseng - the botanical name for the Asian Ginseng plantTaurine is a substance that has a detoxifying effect on working muscles and it may improve athletic performance. It has no known harmful effects but there are questions about it. It seems to be safe up to 3 grams (3000 milligrammes) a day and after that it is thought that the body simply throws the rest away. Nevertheless there is concern over long term large usage.
There is an analogy with vitamin C. Conventional wisdom has it that more than the required dietary amount is simply excreted. Nevertheless taking massive doses seem to help clear up colds. So maybe taking massive doses of Taurine may have an effect.
Carnitine is present in many foods and carnitine deficiency is a potential dietary problem. Although carnitine supplements are available (and approved by USA's FDA) it has no known beneficial medicinal effects. That is once you have enough to prevent deficiency diseases then any extra is useless. Carnitine is thought to be harmless.
Panax Ginseng is the traditional Asian Ginseng plant. Ginseng species are named Panax. Asian Ginseng is Panax Ginseng; American Ginseng is Panax quinquefolius and so on. Ginseng is credited with many properties many of them magical. You will see many products including shampoo, skin cream and even toothpaste with ginseng. It isn't harmful but then again there is no evidence that it is useful.
Other ingredients
Sucrose, Glucose, Maltodextrin - sugar
Sorbic acid - Completely safe preservative
Benzoic acid - Another preservative. Virtually safe but it can generate benzene when mixed with vitamin C. So don't dissolve soluble vitamin C in Monster Energy.
Niacinamide - a form of vitamin B3 - good
Sodium Chloride - salt - enough to taste not enough to harm
Glucuronolactone - Made by the liver from glucose, it has a (unwarranted) reputation for being beneficial and it is not harmful.
Inositol - This is a carbohydrate - similar to a tasteless sugar - 4 calories per gram but no other effects
Guarana seed - natural source of caffeine
Pyridoxine - Vitamin B6
Sucralose - safe artificial sweetener
Riboflavin - Vitamin B2 - yellow food colour
Cyanocobalamin - Vitamin B12 - some people are allergic to thisThen there is the final ingredient, Caffeine. The good and bad effects of Caffeine have been rehearsed so often that there is little point in going through it here. Suffice to say that whilst Caffeine is not harmless it isn't too bad for someone who isn't already sick. Caffeine is a potent and effective stimulant.
Going through the ingredients there important ones are Sugar and Caffeine - Energy and stimulant.
Everything else is there just to make up the recipe.
Some make the drink palatable - carbonated water, the sweetener etc.
Some are preservatives - Sorbic acid etc.
Some sound good without doing anything - Ginseng, Taurine etc.
Some are vitaminsBasically nothing there to worry about.

QUESTION:
Red Bull energy drink ?
HI i know I have a little tolerance to caffine,I feel sick light headed and my heart races etc and I know that I cannot take any of the slimming pills that contain it like stackers or any other diet pills containing taurine and the other things natural that help you to loose weight.I notice that some of these ingredients are in energy drinks and have stayed away from them.
But yesterday I noticed an energy drink called Monster, it contains taurine ginseng and of course caffine and the tin is double the size of red bull, I check with the red bull can to see the ingredients but they are pretty much the same, appart from the monster drink contained natual ingredients.
Anyways I drank the can of Monster yesterday and was perfectly fine, no side effects what so ever. So I thought that today seen as though I have never tried red bull I would get a can as I didnt have no side effect with the Monster energy drink, however I did and am suffering now with the same side effects as I get with other high caffine containing products like slimming pills.
I just want to know why red bull effected me like this when it contains the same amount of caffine and taurine, however it doesnt contain the ginseng like the monster drink does. I dont understand it
I have read that Red Bull are linked to different things and even death if more than one consumed but why is this the only energy drink that has this effect on people, when other energy drinks have the same ingredients. I compared to make sure as I didnt want to get the side effects of the Red Bull but I did and will never make the mistake again.
Any ideas of why this is ?
Thanks for your answers, and Twinkle star, no one asked you to read my question, why dont you answer a question with an answer rather than a comment. if future if you cant be bothered to answer a question ,what you doing on here?-
ANSWER:
How is it possible to read so many information and not realize that all the energizing drinks have basically the same recipe and therefore the same toxic effect on the human body?!!!
Not only Red Bull can endanger your health, but also the other similar products. I'm not even sure the water in those drinks is natural, because, as you probably know, in the US almost al the potable waters are "enhanced" with flourides. This is the result of the "care" our governments have for their citizens!

QUESTION:
Question about monster ingredients?
is bull pee really the 5th ingredient in monster energy drinks??-
ANSWER:
NoTuarine is an organic acid that is the make up of all amino acids. It is found in the heart, skeletal muscles, nervous system, and bile where it is needed to digest and process oils and fat soluble nutrients. Bile does NOT mean urine or, like some absolute morons say, semen.
The first cases of taurine being used in drinks it was derived from bull bile. However that normally is not the case any longer.

QUESTION:
Can an energy drink (Redbull, Monster, Rockstar, etc) be stored in a plastic or glass container?
I've noticed that all energy drinks seem to be stored and sold in aluminum cans, and I'm curious if it's possible to store them in a plastic or glass container instead of aluminum. All soda that I can think of is sold in both aluminum and plastic containers. The only two likely reasons that I can come up with are:
1) the ingredients in an energy drink that are not present in sodas (i.e. taurine) react with the plastic/ glass bottle, or
2) the light that gets through causes the ingredients to reactThanks for any help!
-
ANSWER:
It might just be an image thing. Normally energy drinks try to sell on their "toughness" and aluminum just looks better than plastic in that respect. For example the whole aluminum can could be colored but a plastic bottle is limited to the paper part being colored. [see Vault]

QUESTION:
Redbull, Monster, 5 hour energy, etc? What's the best energy drink with the least harmful side effects?
I've been avoiding the energy drink craze, until recently. Over the last few days I've had two redbulls each day to accompany my lunch, and afterwards I felt great for a few hours (when I needed the energy at my job), but felt a little "slower" hours afterwards, more than I was before I ingested the drinks...Which was expected, and not regretted since I obtained the energy when I needed it. But I haven't tried this with my workout exercises, since the combination of the two seems to be detrimental.I've been wondering, though, which is the best energy drink with legitimately galvanizing ingredients (I don't believe too much in banana smoothies and all that, they may taste good and possibly cause you to feel better, but not energized.) but doesn't have adverse health effects. Is there such a thing?
I should also mention that I'm not much of a coffee drinker. And I've heard good information about Boost (in that there wasn't any bad information to be found), even if it's 'energy' is derived from protein and vitamins instead of the obvious caffeine, which may or may not yield the desirable results I've experienced previously.

ANSWER:
If you are looking for an alternative to high caffeine and high sugar, why not try XS energy? I am a barista at Starbucks and was looking for some kind of healthier alternative to my caffeine intake, which was about 800mg a day. (the maximum suggested is 400mg. the equivalent of a venti black coffee.)My friend suggested this to me. And although skeptical because I had to buy it online, I trusted my friend alot, so i gave it a shot, and instantly fell in love with them. XS uses (instead of lots of caffeine, sugar and taurine) a high amount of vitamin B12 which naturally stimulates your brain functioning, giving you energy and helping you focus. It also helps your blood cells in regenerating. They cost about the same as a redbull. And guess what? They are sugar free. And only eight calories. Try finding that in anything else you drink. I can tell you, It's non existent. They taste great, I would never know it was sugar free by just drinking one. I think there are ten flavors, and my personal favorite is the cranberry-grape. I am not a big fan of the citrus. but see for yourself. Here is where I buy them. http://sreedy.qhealthzone.com/ Best of luck to your search in healthier options.

I lived in Malaysia about 10 years ago and at one point there was a big story about a golfer dying because of an ingredient in red bull... This may have something to do with it.
Singapore is very strict so it's hard to tell, you may be able to drive somewhere else and buy a large supply...

QUESTION:
What to add to this mixed drink?
My boyfriends 21st bday is coming up and I want to make a special mixed drink named after him. I will worry about the name myself but I am trying to come up with some simple ingredients that would taste good.I am thinking of using a Monster energy drink (green) as part of the recipe and lime juice. I am not sure what alcohol to mix with it.
-
ANSWER:
I have a great one...when people come into my bar they do what are called "drop shots" which as you might know requires dropping any given liquor in a shot glass, into a larger glass (usually a 12 or 16 oz glass) filled half way with a mixer. For instance a "Jager Bomb" is simply a shot glass full of Jagermeister (liquor) dropped into a pint glass half full of Red Bull (mixer) then drank quickly like a large shot. A "Cherry Bomb" is a shot glass full of 3 Olives Cherry (cherry flavored vodka) dropped into a pint glass half full of Red Bull (mixer) then drank quickly like a large shot.
My idea for you is to take any kind of flavored or unflavored vodka, which is the best liquor to use in this case and pour it into a shot glass. Take your Monster and lime juice concoction and use it to fill up half a pint glass and drop in whatever flavored vodka you chose.
Say your awesome boyfriend's name is Adam...you could name your drink the "Adam Bomb!" even if his name isn't nearly as clever or ironic it still works no matter what. You can improvise without shot glasses if needed and just add it into your mixer...be creative but at least you have a good platform to start on. Have fun, but be responsible...best wishes!

QUESTION:
Why hasn't Monster Energy been approved by the FDA?
The Monster Energy drinks have not been evaluated/approved by the FDA the last time I checked. Why? Too much caffeine, sugar, and/or other ingredients? (Taurine, etc.) I have had Red Bull lots of time, and it IS evaluated by the FDA, and I don't see the warning thing in the box: THESE STATEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN EVALUATED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT INTENDED TO TREAT, DIAGNOSE, CURE, OR TREAT ANY DISEASE.-
ANSWER:
It's probably terrible for you. But I don't care, it tastes delicious and as long as you don't drink like 10 cans of it a day you'll be fine.

QUESTION:
Do energy drinks have bull sperm in them?
I heard from one of my friends, that the energy drink Monster has "bull sperm" in it. Now, that seemed pretty unlikely to me but she said it was "Taurine" or something like that. Now, that's one of my fave energy drinks and I was curious as to if it actually contained aforementioned ingredient.-
ANSWER:
Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) is a chemical acid found in muscles of some animals. It's not like blood or anything, it's simply a chemical.

QUESTION:
Is anybody else addicted to Monster Java?
It's coffee made from the Monster energy drink company. I'm addicted to it. How do I get off of it? I know they banned it from another country because of an ingredient in it. I think it is taurine or something like that. My bf calls it crack in a can. I drink 3 a day. Sometimes 4. It isn't the caffeine. It only has half the caffeine in one can as regular coffee.-
ANSWER:
it is just because of the sugar ! there is not much caffeine in there then a regular (week) coffee.

QUESTION:
vyvanse reaction to energy drink but not the caffeine?
i take vyvanse for my ADD yes i know its a stimulant and so is caffeine and them together can mess u up. but i have noticed when i take my vyvanse and i have 5-hour energy i have nausea and dizziness. when i have monster the same thing but milder its less concentrated than 5 hour energy.BUT i can drink like 5 soda's with 34Mg's of caffeine each, with no downside at all (170mg caffeine). 5 hour energy and monster combined have no where near that amount of caffeine so i don't think its the caffeine thats bothering me at all. i think it must be something in bot of them thats not in soda causing this. both energy drinks have many different ingredients so maybe its one of those. any ideas? thanks-
ANSWER:
yea, energy drinks and 5 hour energy have a bunch of stuff in them. it's probably the guarana, which contains caffeine but is more dense than regular coffee beans. it also contains other ingredients, theobromine and theophylline (which are also stimulants) so they often dont put it under the "caffeine" section of labels. so dont drink those..
and you should really be careful, you can really mess up your heart by mixing a powerul stimulant (vyvanse) with more stimulants. i work at cvs pharmacy and i know that vyvanse is pretty strong, so i really don't see why you would need another "pick me up" in the day.

QUESTION:
What would cause me to break out in hives from a Hitman Monster Energy Shooter?
So, because I'm trying to get an english project done for tomorrow I bought a Monster Hitman Energy Shooter from the local corner store. I've never had monster shot before, although I have drank a few low Carb Monsters (the ones with blue in place of traditional green). So anyways, I'm breaking out in white hives on the back of my right hand and my knees and shins of my legs feel real itchy.
The only allergy related to ingesting things would be red food dye, and the substance is green(I checked), the rest are typical seasonal allergies. I haven't been exposed to any new environment, or used a new product or even changed clothes all day. Usually when I break out in hives from my typical allergies, it's on the fleshy part of my arm below m elbow.
The last thing I ate was two rice cakes about 4 hours ago.
Is there something that people usually break out from energy drinks with? Any unusual ingredient in this shot?
Thanks if you take the time to read this, I'm a little worried. :l

QUESTION:
Why do energy drinks help me think?
I'm 16, I drink them from time to time, not as much as most teenagers do. Any time I drink a Monster or Rockstar energy drink I don't ever get that hyper-jittery effect, instead my creative thoughts flow better, my mental capacity seems to expand for a short time as well. Oddly enough I don't experience any of those dreaded "crashes" either.I'm curious though. Is there a specific ingredient that might directly attribute to this quality, or is this just a unique side-effect in my case?
-
ANSWER:
You might have ADD. It sounds like what ritalin does to hyper kids. Or it could just be in your head and you're attributing some sort of reaction to a stimulus.

QUESTION:
Make your own Red Bull, RockStar energy drink with sodas, juices, other flavors?
I love the taste of Rock Star, Red Bull, Ace, Monster, Full Thottle, etc... But at to a CAN!?! C'mon!I've been experimenting with different sodas and ingredients to replicate the taste and have really come nowhere close. (Though an AirBorne Cold Tablet in mountain dew, club soda, and a little orange juice isn't bad!)
I don't really care about the caffeine and ginseng and all that stuff. Please don't respond with "cough syrup". I really want to come up with a good recipe and save all of us some money by sharing it with as many people as possible.
I couldn't find anything on the web? Maybe you'll have better luck?
Happy Concocting!!
-
ANSWER:
i have found myself in the same position as you. sadly there is really no way to recreate the flavor without expensive ingredients. I will be trying to accomplish this as a chemistry project.a key part of the flavor (the sourness) comes froma high dose of citric acid
p.s. another option that i do is buy in serious bulk when energy drinks go on sale. i have also found great 1 dollar energy drinks at 1 dollar stores ( for example rip it, pihrana, mad dawg)

QUESTION:
Does monster lo-carb really have only 3 grams of sugar per serving?
I have the monster energy drink it is the lo carb in the black and blue can. According to the nutritional facts on the can there are only 3 grams of sugar per 8 oz and 2 servings total so my question is. Could they really only have 3 grams of sugar per serving.I would guess that the "energy blend" listed on the facts contains Glucose as the second of seven ingredients. All seven together are 2,500mg which is milligrams I believe which. is how many grams?
Anyways I am guessing they hide all the sugar under the name "energy blend" then under that name as glucose. But even still I think that would be low sugar levels.
So how much sugar are you really getting in your body when you drink monster energy lo carb?
-
ANSWER:
there is only 3 grams of SUGAR per serving, but look in the ingredients...anything that ends with -ose is also a sugar so
there is probably more

QUESTION:
Energy Drinks - Is it all in the mind?
I've been drinking Red Bull and Monster for 2 years now (not so frequently) and feel like I experience effects of ginseng and caffeine (increased heart rate, restlessness, alertness).
Do the ingredients of energy drinks really have this sort of influence on the body, or is it all mental?-
ANSWER:
The chemicals used in energy drinks (- which are really bad for the body) do stimulate increased heart rate and blood flow. They allow the capilleries and veins to open more, allowing increased circulation. This in turn allows the body to be fed quckly with the high levels of sugars in the drinks. As for energy drinks giving mind stimulation - that is untrue, the statement is going on the theory of higher cirulation - increased brain activity, but there has never been anything to prove this.

QUESTION:
is it bad to drink multiple energy drinks in one sitting? for an experiment?
Hi,
I'm doing a research project for my end of the year project for AP Chemistry. I basically was researching about ingredients and stuff, history, etc. But I think it would be cool if i conducted an experiment on myself similar to that movie "Supersize Me".Is it safe for me to drink about 5 energy drinks in one sitting, such as Monster, red bull, 5hour energy. etc. to conduct the test and see if i get anyof the sideffects.
I have never drank energy drinks before, because i've been sorta against them.
I am considered very healthy from my doctor, i do a lot of cardiovascular exercise like I have been on varsity swim since freshman year. and i weigh about 120 lbs.
i want to know if i consume these when i'm almost dead tired and then consume about one can for like every hour or so for like a few hours. recording the data as i go along. but i want to know if this is deathly bad, like i'll need to get my stomach pumped or die.
well if it's really bad, i obviously wont.
-
ANSWER:
You do know that can potentially kill you right?the average person should only consume a MAXIMUM of 850 mg in one day, and even that amount is highly unhealthy.
each of those energy drinks contains 250 mg of caffeine in them.
250x5= 1250 mg of caffeine=HEART ATTACK.
the caffeine could put you in cardiac arrest, or, it can house long term effects.
DONT do it.
how about you do the effect of EACH energy drink on five differe tpeople? sounds alot more sensible

QUESTION:
Most Recommendable? 5 Hour energy, Monster Hitman Energy shot, or other?
The first two seem to be pretty similar (in ingredients and effect) based on what I've read, while 5 hour is slightly tilted to be the better product; but I'm wondering if there is anything critical I should know about these energy shots that should influence my purchase.Initially I was skeptical about buying energy shots because of their small size while the price is akin to that of the average energy drink, but apparently these shots pack more of a punch than an entire can is able to. I've consumed a 5 hour energy shot in the past and I've been pleased with the results, but I'm searching for something to replace what I currently use through the day, which is the Jolt brand energy drinks, while getting the most for my money.

QUESTION:
When ever i have coffee or energy drinks my stomach hurts, why?
Like at first I thought it was caffeine that I was allergic to. but monster (a drink that hurts my stomach) doesn't have caffeine just a bunch of other stuff. what ingredient/s do coffee, monster, and other various similar substances (all of which are liquids) have that could cause me so much pain?-
ANSWER:
If they just make your stomach hurt, then you aren't allergic to anything. Allergies will give you a skin rash or make your face/ throat swell up. It sounds like you are sensitive to caffeine. If I drink a coffee or energy drink on an empty stomach, I'll get pains too. Try to drink smaller amounts at a time and eat something with it. PS, Monster energy drinks have caffeine.

QUESTION:
Monster Steroids suspicion?
Is there any possibility that Monster Energy Drinks sold in Texas can contain steroids or traces of steroids or any ingredient that may lead a drug test to say positive for steroids?-
ANSWER:
Technically, energy drinks don't contain steroids. They do however, contain Taurine, a substance used in combination to create anabolic steroids for body building supplements.well, like most energy drinks, Monster contains Taurine. Taurine is an organic acid that is a major constituent of bile, and can be found in lower amounts in the tissues of many animals including humans. (metazoa).[1][2] Taurine is also found in plants, fungi, and some bacterial species, but at lower levels. Taurine is a derivative of the sulfur-containing (sulfhydryl) amino acid, cysteine.
Taurine is often used in combination with bodybuilding supplements such as creatine and anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are synthetic derivatives of the male hormone testosterone, which promote the growth of skeletal muscle and increase lean body mass.
Monster energy drinks contains 2000 mg of taurine, 1000 for each of the two servings.
No, if tested, you won't neccessarily test positive for steroids. I know from working at a casino where they do random drug tests that if you do have an energy drink before tested, it will show something. Kind of like if you eat a poppy seed muffin before you takea drug test and it shows you have opium in your system. If you have an energy drink before a drug test (unrecommended) let them know.
My advice? Lay off of the energy drinks. Seriously. I used to drink 2-3 SOBE Adrenaline Rushes a day. I started feeling crappy and couldn't figure out why at first. Then I thought that it could possible be the energy drinks. I stopped drinking them, and actually have not had one in over 2 weeks, and I feel so much better. I know other people who quit drinking them and felt better as well. Trust me. They're really not all that good for you.

QUESTION:
can you give me your opinion?
IS MONSTER ENERGY DRINK BAD CAUSE SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT THE INGREDIENTS IN THE MONSTER ARE THE SAME INGREDIENTS THAT ARE IN DRUGS IS THAT TRUE???????????-
ANSWER:
All false.People say that Monster and other energy drinks are bad but if used as intended and in moderation they are not. They are what they are called. Energy drinks. They are not suppose to be every day multiple times a day drinks. Too many will give us too much caffeine and too many other stimulants in them. That is what is not good.
Red Bull recommends only having 1 to 2 a day. The 2nd largest selling, which happens to be the first ever and largest healthy enery drink, XS Energy, suggests only having 1 a day and recommends against having more than 2. Since a Monster is 16 ounces it already is 2 servings and many people have 2 or 3 of those a day so it is too much.
There is 26g of sugar per serving or 52g per can of Monster. Once we have 2 or 3 cans that is too much sugar. The same thing is with the caffeine. 80mg per serving or 160 per can. After 2 - 3 cans a day that is bad. The maximum safe level of caffeine we should consume is 300 mg per day. After that we start to have health problems related to excess caffeine.
There are no drugs in it. People continually say that caffeine is a drug. It is not. Drugs are man made or altered in some way from plants. Caffeine is naturally occuring in many plants.
