Many people think sports drink and energy drink are the same things but they are made for totally different consumers.
Most of the time we end up buying energy and sports drinks. We usually buy these products without knowing the difference between energy and sports drink. Many a times energy drinks are bought to have instead of a soft drink or to quench thirst but in reality that is not the purpose of energy drink. All you are doing is taking in lot of calories without making any effort to burn them. Energy drinks are mental stimulants; basically they are soft drinks which have caffeine, taurine and glucuronolactone with more calories than the normal soft drinks. Since the time new energy drinks have been introduced with alcohol content in them, there have been valid concerns about the consumption by the masses. The ingredients of energy drink usually include herbs like ginkgo and ginseng, amino acids including taurine and vitamins. It also has plant based stimulants like guarana but a major ingredient is caffeine. There are certain side effects that have been observed like difficulty in sleeping, indigestion, anxiety and palpitation. Furthermore it has been seen that excess intake of these drinks coupled with no exercise leads to obesity, since there is a considerable amount of sugar content in the drink.
Sports drinks are manufactured keeping in mind people who are more physically active or are athletes. These drinks don't have stimulant effect but some of them might contain caffeine. Usually these sports drinks are rich in carbohydrates and are designed to take before or after an exercise regime. These sports drinks are usually safe and have been made after extensive scientific and nutritional research. The higher the levels of carbohydrates in the drink the slower will be the rate at which the stomach will be empty. Electrolytes in a drink will reduce the urine output and would encourage fluid retention and prevent dehydration. There are three different types of sports drink content that are available in the market. One is Isotonic which replaces fluids quickly which are lost due to sweating and gives a boost of carbohydrates. This is used by most of the athletics especially the middle and long distance runners or team sports. The Second type is Hypotonic is for athletics who need fluids without the boost of carbohydrates like jockeys and gymnasts. The third type is the Hypertonic which are taken during exercise to meet the energy requirements.
It is important to note that mixing sports and energy drink with alcohol is becoming a thrilling practice with the youngsters who should not try this at any cost since energy drink is a stimulant and alcohol is a depressant. The effect of contrasting the two can be harsh for the body. These days' energy drinks are used by people who are leading a very busy and hectic life. It is important to know what is healthy for our body and what the body truly needs. There are healthy drinks available in the market like Purple and Monavie which are a better choice than energy or sports drink.

QUESTION:
Side effects of Monster Energy Drink or pregnancy symptoms..?
It's weird. Last time I got my period was around the end of June. I had unprotected sex for one whole month (july), and I was expecting my period this past week. The problem is that I drink 2 or sometimes 3 monsters a day to keep myself awake at work or school. Now I am confused. The energy drinks would keep me awake all the time, and I wouldn't get hungry either; now, I feel sleepy almost all day long, and I still get hungry even after I drink the Monster energy drinks. I've had this habit for about a year now, and this is the first time (last 2 weeks) that those energy drinks are not working for me anymore. I am not even trying to get pregnant because 2 yrs ago I tried and I never got, so I'm thinking that it will not happen anyway...-
ANSWER:
wow.
you REALLY need to kick the habit of energy drinks. seriously, immediately. its totally unhealthy. it kicks up your heart rate and could be fatal or give you diseases. also, the carbonation messed your teeth up. the chemicals in monster are totally unhealthy. the first alternative i suggest is water. many people think its so plain and stuff, but really, its the best there is for you and its calorie free and totally natural and keeps you hydrated. second is smoothies. main smoothie shops such as robeks and jamba juice offer free boosts, get an energy boost! and they are full of nutrients and very healthy. its possible that the man you are sleeping with could have a low sperm count or be sterile. and some people just can't procreate together. thats why they created test tube babies, they take eggs out of you, and sperm out of him, and then put them together and whichever egg starts growing the implant into you and then you have a baby!! so first, kick the monster habit. second, get checked out at the doctor. a few simple blood tests could find out the reason why you are reacting badly to the monsters. third, if theres nothing wrong with you and your blood, have your man get checked out to see if there is anything wrong with him and his sperm. anyways, best of luck to you! remember, monsters do not benifit your body at all, they just make you hyper unnaturally- not good.
best of luck!!

QUESTION:
Do Monster energy drinks have any long term negative effects if i only drink them 2-3 times per month?
I drink Monster energy drinks on "special occasions" about two or three times per month. I DON'T drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or pot, or take any prescription drugs, so there isn't the risk of combining them with any of those. Also, I'm a 14 year old, 115 lb girl if that changes anything. I basically want to know if I continue this pattern for, say, 10 years, will there be any long term negative side effects when I get older?-
ANSWER:
I’m just scratching the surface with what I have written here so let me give you some food for thought. When you are considering consuming energy drinks:•Make a mental note that while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is allowing companies to sell and market their energy drink products, there is still very little research that has been done on them. I suspect the FDA allows them to be added simply because they do not pose any immediate danger to energy drink consumers.
•The long-term effects of energy drink ingredients, if any, are still not known meaning that drinking a lot of these drinks on a consistent basis may or may not harm you in ways that have yet to be researched.
•Energy drink labels are frequently misleading or at least they are so ambiguous that when you buy them you simply believe what you want to believe. Remember that in most cases, the claims being made have not been proven.
•It remains unknown as to whether any medical conditions and related prescription medication will interact with energy drinks. If you try an energy drink and react poorly to it, consult a physician.

QUESTION:
What are the side effects of the energy drink Monster?-
ANSWER:
The effects don't bother everybody as we are all different. If you are accustomed to high amounts of sugar and caffeine then you won't notice it as much. Basically for those that do get affected they might get hyper, jittery, and their mind might race. Plus it is actually 2 servings in the small can and 3 in the larger one.Basically if you are going to drink a Monster then you either need to really need the energy or drink only half, at most, at a time.

QUESTION:
monster energy drinks, question about side effects?
i drank a full monster for the first time during school on thursday, and it 24 oz. i drank it really fast cuz it was good, and i was shaking like crazy.so i went to my art class and it was like, 30 minutes after i drank it and i was shaking so bad that i couldnt draw. i sit at this table with a bunch of guys and i know that they do some drugs and they drink, and one of them said that drinking that much that fast wasn't good for me, so he told me to drink some water.
he gave me his water bottle, which only had a few sips taken out of it, and i drank it in like one chug. after that i started to get really dizzy and i almost passed out. i coulld feel my face shaking and loud noises really bothered me.
the guy who gave me the water asked me to refill it so i stood up and my legs felt like jello and i couldn't walk in a straight line because everything was spinning. all the guys were like laughing, not really at me, cuz they're nice to me and i guess you'd say they're my friends, but they thought it was funny.
when class was over, i was gonna push open the door because it was closing but i missed it so i like, walked into it.
so can someone tell me if these were effects of monster or did the guy have something in his drink? it looked like normal water to me and it was clear, but people are telling me that monster doesn't do that to u
and if it makes a difference, im a 15 year old girl and i weigh like 130

QUESTION:
Is This A Side Effect Of Monster Energy Drink?
I just had my very first Monster Energy drink, I finished the whole thing in at least 5-10 minutes and then I was shaking like crazy after I finished it, but it was kinda cold. But twenty minutes later when I got home, I have constant parasthesia in my hands and I always get it, but now it literally feels as if someone is under my skin tingling in my nerves. And my room is pretty effing warm too. I stated shaking around like a mother-effer and now its not as bad, but its in nearly all of my fingers and some parts of my palms. I've never had it this bad or this long. Could it be the Monster energy drink? I don't think I should buy another one.-
ANSWER:
It sounds like the Monster might have caused it. Too much sugar or something. I wouldn't drink them anymore though just to be on the safe side.

You don't need that stuff at your age. It will get you hyped up then give you the nastiest crash, make you lazy and tired. I say you eat an apple at the beginning of your day. Eating an apple in the morning gives you more energy than a cup of coffee. So eat apples!

QUESTION:
Are there any longterm side effects from drinking energy drinks?
I drink at least one monster low carb energy drink a day and Im extremely active (triathlete) and was wondering if there are any known long term negative side effects to drinking energy drinks.-
ANSWER:
I'm 46 and have been drinking caffeine since I was old enough to keep both ends off the ground. I used to drink 7-9 cans of Mountain Dew a day. Never bothered me UNTIL I hit 40. Then developed arrythmia, while I can't prove it's the caffeine. I'm one of nine kids and I'm the only one that has it, so it's not hereditary, and other than caffeine, I can't think of what would cause it.One or so a day I wouldn't think would hurt, just try not to go over board, you might regret it later.

QUESTION:
My husband drinks Monster Khaos Energy Drinks, he drinks 8-10 24oz cans a day. What side effects and harm?
He says it will not harm him but I think that it does what do you think and how can I help. I feel that this is a huge problem.-
ANSWER:
Liver problems, heart problems (that's just too much stimulant). Plus he's putting himself at risk for high blood pressure, ulcers and heartburn. And bone loss--for every 150 mgs of caffeine ingested, the body excretes 5 mgs of calcium. Each MK drink has about 100 mgs of caffeine, so he's losing about 30 mgs of calcium a day.

QUESTION:
Redbull, Monster, 5 hour energy, etc? What's the best energy drink with the least harmful side effects?
I've been avoiding the energy drink craze, until recently. Over the last few days I've had two redbulls each day to accompany my lunch, and afterwards I felt great for a few hours (when I needed the energy at my job), but felt a little "slower" hours afterwards, more than I was before I ingested the drinks...Which was expected, and not regretted since I obtained the energy when I needed it. But I haven't tried this with my workout exercises, since the combination of the two seems to be detrimental.I've been wondering, though, which is the best energy drink with legitimately galvanizing ingredients (I don't believe too much in banana smoothies and all that, they may taste good and possibly cause you to feel better, but not energized.) but doesn't have adverse health effects. Is there such a thing?
I should also mention that I'm not much of a coffee drinker. And I've heard good information about Boost (in that there wasn't any bad information to be found), even if it's 'energy' is derived from protein and vitamins instead of the obvious caffeine, which may or may not yield the desirable results I've experienced previously.

ANSWER:
well all normal energy drinks like monster, red bull, amp, sobe, jolt, and even vault have major sugar, lots of caffeine, and sometimes chemicals tht can harm ur body. i used to be in the energy crave thign i had about 3-4 monsters a week and now i slowed it down to about 1 a week, but tht still isnt enough. you dont need it. but those 5 hour energy,6 hour power, and all those do work and no side effects, but they taste like sh*t. so yeah id say saty away from the energy drinks unless u dont mind the medicine tasting small shot thingys.

QUESTION:
what does the energy drinks like Monster, and Red bull, What are the side effects?
How bad are energy drinks for you and what do they do to your body?? and why is Red bull the Smallest one and the most expensive one?-
ANSWER:
These types of stimulants are quick up and quick down, which have you always coming back for more. You need a natural energy bust that last hours and you come down in a slow manner so you really do not feel it. I know of two that are 100% safe and natural, and have no side effects. One is a drink and one is a tablet. My husband takes the tablet and can tell a difference in how tired he is at the end of the day if he forgets it. QUESTION:
Could these be side effects of an energy drink?
I drank an enegry drink about 7 or 8 hours ago. It was a monster. Idk what kind. It wass orange and on the top it said "anti - gravity." But about ever since like 8pm I've had a hot itchy face. I get random chills and shake a lot. And my stomach hurts on and off. Could this be from the energy drink? Cause I am only 4'9"..
Since I'm so small I didn't know if that could do something with it..-
ANSWER:
Well, there are a lot of things that could come into play here. What do you weigh? Do you drink them often?
Have you eaten anything? What did you eat? How much?
Are you hydrated, with any water in your system?
A lot of things will effect how an energy drink is on your body. I don't know about the itchy face, but it sounds like you have a little too much caffeine in your system and not enough food substance. It used to happen to me a lot, but I used to drink 4-5 monsters a day and I only ate every 3 days. I do NOT advise it! Just try to eat a little something, drink so water, and lay down.

QUESTION:
Energy Drink side effects?
About a month a go I drank a monster and about 4 hours after drinking it I felt numbness in half of my hands and arms. Today I drank one again and the same thing happend I was also very shaky. Is all this normal?? Oh and I'm 15-
ANSWER:
I drink energy drinks all the time, it gives me an extra boost during long days. I'm very athletic, and very fit, so my body handles them differently than yours.
The long term side effects are not known at this time about them, but there are many different explanations from non-experts(as you read in other answers).
I would advise only drinking a small portion of one. Your not used to the boost it gives, so start off slow.

QUESTION:
Monster Energy Drink?
I usually drink a monster energy drink before my lacrosse games, which occur about once a week. It gives me great energy, but I was wondering if there are any health side effects if I have one only once a week, sometimes once every 2 weeks.-
ANSWER:
There are really no healthy side effects from drinking energy drinks. They contain a lot of caffeine and sugar, and can cause you to have that well-known crash once it wears off. It also causes heart palpations.Having one once a week won't kill you, but don't allow your body to become dependent on them for energy. The best way to keep up your energy is to eat correctly, exercise, and get 8 hours of sleep a night.
Just be weary of how much of them you drink, because the human heart has a limit of how caffeine it can take. It is not uncommon for kids these days to come into hospital emergency rooms from caffeine poisoning. Some kids will take a whole can and shotgun it as if it were a beer.

QUESTION:
Red Bull energy drink ?
HI i know I have a little tolerance to caffine,I feel sick light headed and my heart races etc and I know that I cannot take any of the slimming pills that contain it like stackers or any other diet pills containing taurine and the other things natural that help you to loose weight.I notice that some of these ingredients are in energy drinks and have stayed away from them.
But yesterday I noticed an energy drink called Monster, it contains taurine ginseng and of course caffine and the tin is double the size of red bull, I check with the red bull can to see the ingredients but they are pretty much the same, appart from the monster drink contained natual ingredients.
Anyways I drank the can of Monster yesterday and was perfectly fine, no side effects what so ever. So I thought that today seen as though I have never tried red bull I would get a can as I didnt have no side effect with the Monster energy drink, however I did and am suffering now with the same side effects as I get with other high caffine containing products like slimming pills.
I just want to know why red bull effected me like this when it contains the same amount of caffine and taurine, however it doesnt contain the ginseng like the monster drink does. I dont understand it
I have read that Red Bull are linked to different things and even death if more than one consumed but why is this the only energy drink that has this effect on people, when other energy drinks have the same ingredients. I compared to make sure as I didnt want to get the side effects of the Red Bull but I did and will never make the mistake again.
Any ideas of why this is ?
Thanks for your answers, and Twinkle star, no one asked you to read my question, why dont you answer a question with an answer rather than a comment. if future if you cant be bothered to answer a question ,what you doing on here?-
ANSWER:
How is it possible to read so many information and not realize that all the energizing drinks have basically the same recipe and therefore the same toxic effect on the human body?!!!
Not only Red Bull can endanger your health, but also the other similar products. I'm not even sure the water in those drinks is natural, because, as you probably know, in the US almost al the potable waters are "enhanced" with flourides. This is the result of the "care" our governments have for their citizens!

Monster energy drink?
Okay. i have an anxiety disorder, and i started drinking 2 cans of monster a day this past week to stay focused in school because i also have ADD. it helped but today i noticed that my left hand has some serious uncontrollable movements. it seriously wont stop moving! i am typing this with one hand because my other hand wont listen to me at all..is this normal side effect of monster or something i should b worried about???
thanks-
ANSWER:
Yea that does not sound not good at all! 2 cans is alot of caffenine, try cutting back to one and then maybe to none. Energy drinks are not good for anyone and are full of sugar and junk. Try to find some thing natural and soothing that might help. Maybe chamomille tea or something else but definatly not energy drinks

QUESTION:
Whats worse for you, N.O. Xplode or Monster Energy Drink?
2 weeks ago I recently starting taking N.O. Xplode as a pre-workout supplement to help with my workouts. I've read that it can have some bad side effects if used for too long. But I'm curious, whats worse, N.O. Xplode, or Monster Energy? Because I've drank many Monsters before (not in the same day, I never went more than 2 a day and that was a bad mistake) and heard that they pump chemicals in there that are bad for you also. So on a scale, how would Monster and N.O. Xplode compare in unhealthiness? I know theyre both unhealthy. and its hard to find something that isnt unhealthy besides natural fruits and vegetables. Again, I'm just curious as I don't want to blow out my liver while I'm still young. And yes, I use things with caution, I follow directions and with the N.O. Xplode, I've only used 1 scoop, as I do not want to go any higher.-
ANSWER:
N.O. Xplode really isn't that bad for you. It's meant as a pre-workout supplement, so it provides the carbs and amino acids you need to get the most from your workout. Monster drinks are loaded with sugars and carbs. Yeah, it has other things added to it to make it "better for you", but i wouldn't recomend it.

QUESTION:
Monster, Energy drink?
Hi, I'm 15 years old
and I plan on drinking one tonight so I can stay awake while I study.
I have a bad habit of falling asleep when I try to study.
How bad would it be for me to drink 16oz?
Would it be okay?
Any nutrient facts?
Any side effects?
I have never had one before.
I'm around 5'4 and weight somewhere between 93-97.-
ANSWER:
Yes it will be very bad for your overall health ( including mind and body) You will have a lot of sugar mixed with caffeine and a myriad of other creepy chemicals in your body which in terms of mere minutes you will be so hyperactive that you will want to do anything but study, and then when it goes away, you will be physically and mentally tired ( crash effect) and sleep; waking up like when being hit with a bulldozer and failing. Try 5 Hour Energy Drink. Works well for focusing and studying and doesn't have the crash effect. Or at least try to find a healthier hour to study friend!BEST OF LUCK!

QUESTION:
How do energy drinks work exactly?
I use Monster on a regular basis, but I don't understand why I feel so great after drink one. Also, I often get a headache after drinking coffee, but could it be related to making my coffee very strong?
Also, is it possible to get strongly addicted to Monster or other energy drinks?
Also, does anyone have an experienced opinion (somone having drunk Monster on several occasions) on what energy drink has the best effects and least side effects, etc.
Does anyone know why caffeine pills make me feel terrible/anxious?
Please do not advise me to stop drinking Monster or other energy drinks please.
-
ANSWER:
Energy drinks are full of both caffeine and sugar...
Sugar and caffeine are both addictive, and can cause withdrawal symptoms.
Some symptoms of withdrawal are anxiety, headache and nausea.Sometimes caffeine pills make you feel anxious because the caffeine is keying you up, and you have no way of stopping it.
Normally your body generates a heightened state of awareness in response to danger or stress, and when the danger is gone it shuts it off.
Caffeine works like this, heightening your alertness, but there is no way for your body to turn it off - until it wears off.
Some energy drinks hide their active ingredient by telling the name of the plant that it came from, or using another name. An example is Yerba Matte. This is chemically similar to caffeine, and is just as addictive.

Has anyone noticed any negative side of effects of NeuroSonic?
I've tried NeuroSonic, and my thinking got really cloudy, and my energy quickly depleted after a couple of drinks. Has anyone felt anything similar?I've tried looking for reviews online about it that talked about negative side affects, but haven't found anything. To me NeuroSonic isn't any better than other big energy drinks like Monster and Red Bull because they give me the same effect as NeuroSonic.

QUESTION:
Monster Energy Drinks, seriously, would like advice from a health professional?
I know a lot of questions have been asked about energy drinks, but still, here goes:I started drinking Monster energy drinks about 2 years ago. I NEVER drank more than one a day, but I would never go a day without one one. About a year ago an aquaintance, who is a nurse, convinced me to stop and so I did, for about a year, I'd only drink about one a month. I missed them and thought about them quite regurlarly, and whenever I'd drink one, I'd feel like ''myself'' again - awake and ready, and much more valiant- I guess it sounds like the regurlar effects of caffeine, but to me it gives me a certain something that reminds me of amphetamines, only on a much smaller scale, but a sort of artistic focus, and a drive to create...
I recently picked up the habit right where I left it; I'm back to one a day. They seem to give me the focus I need, make me feel altogether better, and peppy, and help me sleep a little less at night. Part of it is psychosomatic: I feel a little better as soon as I hear the can pop open. I truely don't want to give them up, but am concerned about the long term effects. I hear it's somehow bad for the kidneys: could someone please explain why that is?
I always drink the 473ml cans, like I said, no more than one a day. Also I drink it very slowly, I never gulp it down or anything but instead try to make it last at least 2 hours.
Is there any way for me to keep enjoying these without risking my health?
Also people on both sides of my family have diabetes, and I hear there's quite a bit of sugar even though I can't find it anywhere on the label. (By the sweet sweet taste I'm guessing this is true
)How is it worse than drinking , say 3-4 cups of coffee a day?
What if I drink them for 6 months a year and quit for 6 months; will that give my body time to recover for another half year binge ?
Thanks - gotta love yahoo answers
PS- Also ; I'm the sort of person who is mostly a night owl, and I usually don't start eating until about 3-4 pm, and tend to munch very late until like 2am.
I find that Monster drinks completely fill me up and so I don't have to eat anything in the evening- surely that can't be all bad.PPS- Also, I see there's a crapload of vitamin B in there, is that a bad thing? there's quite a lot

QUESTION:
Is it legal for a energy drink company to give out energy drinks on school property?
There are marketing guys that drive around in jeeps to drop off a load of free energy drinks at my college that are not sold in stores. The marketing guys left very quickly so Im assuming it might not be legal for them to give out free health deteriorating drink. The second the marketer guys say "Hey want some free energy drinks?" a huge crowd try to get their hands on it. They consume it because it is free despite how bad the drink is for their health and its side effect. It was just sad watching all these kids drink that horrible stuff.....I bet it would make no difference if it were medical marijuana that these guys were giving out.Anyways, my question is it legal for energy drink companies to do this? Theyre doing this in many colleges in the US. Monster Energy drink marketing guys gave out about 200-300 free drinks at a local college in Washington last year....They also came by my work place to drop off 10 coffee energy drinks a few months ago....Can't they get in trouble for this?
-
ANSWER:
That is legal and really not immoral since it is a college. College students should know better than to consume that rubbish.

QUESTION:
Is it safe for my little sister and her friend to drink energy drinks?
Well, my sister and her friend always bother
me to run them to the store so they can buy a
variety of little energy drinks. They buy stuff like
red bull, monster, rockstar, vault, sobe, etc.
They're 16oz bottles.I told her that I wouldn't do it anymore because
I don't think it's good for their heart and since
they're young (12&13).They claim they drink 2 bottles a day but I still
don't trust them or even think that's safe. What i'm asking is if it's safe for them to drink it
or what do you think their limit is and what
are the side effects?my little sister is a tiny girl and
her friend is overweight.-
ANSWER:
Energy drinks are full of sugar, caffeine, and B12. B12 is not dangerous, but the caffeine and sugar are. Even diet versions are full of caffeine, which can be very damaging. Caffeine is an appetite stimulant and a diuretic, forcing water from the body and causing many people to eat more out of an artificial sense of hunger. Most of those drinks are also carbonated and the phosphoric acid present depleats bones of calcium, which is especially dangerous for teenagers, who should up their calcium intake to build stronger bones during adolescence. And 16oz is way too much, for even an adult it's ridiculous. No one needs these things, but even for those just wanting a boost, one 6-8oz serving is more than enough. They'd probably feel just as good (though not as cool) adding a good multivitamin to their diets. Maybe offer to buy them some other type of fancy drinks instead (juices like odwalla, naked, or some of the kerns nectars, even tea blends from sobe, snapple, hansens and POM are safer than the energy drinks, though they are still high in sugar). When I was younger, I felt really special when I was treated to a "cocktail" at my neighbors' house. The cocktails were always some sort of juice (usually orange, cranberry, or tropical guava or pineapple), mixed with a splash of 7up or hansen's soda, and occasionally featuring a drizzle of grenadine or other fruit syrup. These were always served in small, fancy glasses (6-8oz), over ice. As an older teenager, I tended towards juice mixes and gatorade (still sugary, but no caffeine).
If you offer options, and explain why the energy drinks are so bad for her age group, maybe she'll change her habits. Good Luck! ^_^
