      I lived in Malaysia about 10 years ago and at one point there was a big story about a golfer dying because of an ingredient in red bull... This may have something to do with it.
      Singapore is very strict so it's hard to tell, you may be able to drive somewhere else and buy a large supply...

    I love the taste of Rock Star, Red Bull, Ace, Monster, Full Thottle, etc... But at to a CAN!?! C'mon!

    I've been experimenting with different sodas and ingredients to replicate the taste and have really come nowhere close. (Though an AirBorne Cold Tablet in mountain dew, club soda, and a little orange juice isn't bad!)

      i have found myself in the same position as you. sadly there is really no way to recreate the flavor without expensive ingredients. I will be trying to accomplish this as a chemistry project.

      a key part of the flavor (the sourness) comes froma high dose of citric acid

      p.s. another option that i do is buy in serious bulk when energy drinks go on sale. i have also found great 1 dollar energy drinks at 1 dollar stores ( for example rip it, pihrana, mad dawg)

    Can an energy drink (Redbull, Monster, Rockstar, etc) be stored in a plastic or glass container?
    I've noticed that all energy drinks seem to be stored and sold in aluminum cans, and I'm curious if it's possible to store them in a plastic or glass container instead of aluminum. All soda that I can think of is sold in both aluminum and plastic containers.

    The only two likely reasons that I can come up with are:
    1) the ingredients in an energy drink that are not present in sodas (i.e. taurine) react with the plastic/ glass bottle, or
    2) the light that gets through causes the ingredients to react

      It might just be an image thing. Normally energy drinks try to sell on their "toughness" and aluminum just looks better than plastic in that respect. For example the whole aluminum can could be colored but a plastic bottle is limited to the paper part being colored. [see Vault]

    HELP! I am addicted to ROCKSTAR Energy drinks!?
    I have been liberally drinking Rockstar for almost 2 years now. I always have one in the morning before work, and sometimes on my way home from work. And SOMETIMES, one before I go to sleep! It's weird because the caffeine has no effect on me, or I have just become immune. The sugar content is way too high, and I know the other ingredients will kill me someday, especially considering the amount I drink. Someone help! I don't know how to kick my habit, and I tried finding other drinks like Starbucks Fraps or water but it just didnt do it for me. I dont drink soda very often so thats not an option for me. I drink non-caffeinated tea at work all day as well.

    Any ideas?
    When I say the caffeine has no effect, I mean it doesnt keep me awake, make me more awake etc. The addictive part, yes!

      It has caffeine in it, those energy drinks can become way addictive, try to keep yourself busy and drink lots of water to clean that out of your system.

    Why do energy drinks help me think?
    I'm 16, I drink them from time to time, not as much as most teenagers do. Any time I drink a Monster or Rockstar energy drink I don't ever get that hyper-jittery effect, instead my creative thoughts flow better, my mental capacity seems to expand for a short time as well. Oddly enough I don't experience any of those dreaded "crashes" either.

    I'm curious though. Is there a specific ingredient that might directly attribute to this quality, or is this just a unique side-effect in my case?

      You might have ADD. It sounds like what ritalin does to hyper kids. Or it could just be in your head and you're attributing some sort of reaction to a stimulus.

    Why does the drink 'Rockstar' hurt my stomach?
    I drank a rockstar this morning around 10 am, and since around 1pm my stomach has felt like it has a really sharp cramp. I don't plan on drinking it again, but does anyone know what is in it that could possibly be causing this? The pain is like a 3/10...not horrible, but still bothering me. I want to know so perhaps I can avoid this ingredient in the future. I am not a frequent user of energy drinks.

      It's probably because of the amount of caffeine. You could also have had an existing stomach issue that was worsend by the drink (gastritis maybe).

      Anybody's stomach would hurt if you drank it on an empty stomach but more than likely it was the amount of caffeine. Instead of drinking those things just eat a healthy diet and get plenty of good exercise. it's easier on your stomach that's for sure!

      They do have a diet Rockstar, which is sugar free.

      Although energy drinks are not the best thing for you, they are loaded with sugar and caffeine. Caffeine is not the best choice for you body and could cause stomach aches if it receives too much. Some people can handle high sugar intakes, some can't. Yours might not. So look for diet ones. Hopefully your stomach won't hurt anymore. =)

      They do not have a laxitive in it. Howeer that does not mean that one of the ingredients in it will cause you to get like that. We are all different and unique and though certain items will normally do this or that for most people that is not the case for every person. Some people can't function without a good bid of caffeine and others get real hyper with just the smallest amount.

      I would suggest staying away from Rockstar. If you get this with other products then keep track of those ingredients and you might be able to narrow it down to a specific thing. Asking your doctor to do allergy tests on the ingredients in Rockstar may or may not help. This does not sound like normal allergic reactions.

      Of course there is always a possibility that this is just a coincedence too. You could have been coming down with something. If so it is possible that the drink may have triggered it or made it worse at the time. But not necessarily either.

      It's possible, but kidney stones are not created quickly, it takes a long time to get them started and formed. If this drink did make kidney stones that quickly, it'd be taken off the market waaay fast.

      Just today in my local newspaper there are cautions about kids drinking too many energy drinks.
      Some of them have many times the caffeine in them than a common coke or pepsi. Caffeine is a cheap way to get you energized.

      I think one a day is okay. Check the label to see how much caffeine is in the drink. You probalby use it to wake up in morning like adults use a cup of coffee. I never could drink coffee, so I always drink a pepsi in the morning!!

      It's best to use as little of the energy drinks as possible. If you're drinking one a day, I don't think that's too bad. But you need to be careful of other caffeine drinks, like colas. If you drink one Rockstar a day, and then 3 or 4 cokes, then that's waaaaay bad. You're hurting yourself then.

    Okay so I've been getting a little bored of coffee, but I need something in the afternoon sometimes to get me to the gym. So I decided to look at some energy drinks to see if they come in diet varieties.. well what do you know, I found that Amp, Monster and Rockstar each came out with seemingly much healthier, low-sugar/sugar-free and low-cal versions of their energy drinks. The caffeine content, at least in the Amp seemed less than traditional coffee (around 72 grams) so right there I thought was an okay start, not to mention the petite 5 calories and no sugar/carbs. I did not see aspartame on the ingredients list, either.

    They also put catchy phrases about staying lean and energized, etc. Pretty good advertising, i'd say.

    So any [experts?] want to take a jab on this? Could drinking these better-for-you energy drinks regularly really pose a serious threat?

    5 hour energy just launched a bunch of these commercials against energy drinks like monster which i find is totally lame. it is nothing special. compare the ingredients of the two drinks they're pretty much the same and in the same doses/proportions. monster has more sugar but if you're worried just buy a rockstar or monster low-carb instead. go ahead and wikipedia every single ingredient in 5 hour energy you'll find its useless and the only real one is caffeine which is kind of weak in itself. and despite costing more it does not taste as good. lame.
