The side effects of energy drinks are a hotly debated topic; presently there are efforts to ban such drinks so that they are not accessible to children. The effects of energy drink sugar are the reason behind why so many parents and organizations are frowning upon the use of such beverages. These drinks have a number of baneful side effects including the onset of dizziness, hyperactivity in children, upset stomach and nausea, as well as heart palpitations. Some children even suffer from diarrhea from consuming popular energy drinks.
Organizations like the Australian Medical Association are heavily concerned with the side effects of energy drinks and their effects on children. These beverages are immensely high in sugar content and energy drink sugar offers children no nutritional value. What's more, these beverages are extremely high in caffeine content too. The side effects of energy drinks also include the notion that children might easily become quickly addicted to such beverages, and it is yet to be fully determined how some children with certain medical conditions might react to the consumption of energy drinks. In one case reported in The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry, a bipolar man that consumed several energy drinks was triggered into having a manic episode and had to be hospitalized; that being the case, it's no wonder that parents and health organizations are citing concerns with energy drink sugar and stimulant ingredients.
The side effects of energy drinks are also associated with increases in blood pressure levels in some individuals. Since these beverages are highly caffeinated, they also may hold the potential for causing a child to become dehydrated after consuming the beverages. What's more, if an adolescent chooses to experiment with alcohol and he or she also consumes energy drinks, it has been found that the combination of energy drinks and alcohol is equivalent to combining depressants and stimulants: this can result in dramatic moods swings, irritability, and behavioral unpredictability.
Some of the energy drinks offered on the market today stimulate a child for several hours. The energy drink sugars and stimulant effect eventually wears off and causes the child to crash. When a child crashes, he or she can become exhausted, cranky, moody, and irritable. Changes in the child's behavior can then affect his or her interaction with family and peers and may even have an effect on the child's scholastic endeavors. After the crash, the child might then want more energy drinks to elevate his or her mood, thus starting the vicious cycle of energy drink craving and possible addiction.

QUESTION:
Are there any side effects of getting totally wired on energy drinks?
Ok, so I chosen to be Abstinent to alchohol, but i've found that energy drinks sorta give me the same feeling. So i was wondering, are their any side effects of drinking a few energy drinks. Especially like any long term ones?
Yea Im not stupid. I would for sure not be drinking them everyday, But you know, they help me kind of loosen up. Just a couple now and then i just don't want to mess up my body for something stupid like that.-
ANSWER:
These drinks tends to be high in sugar and caffeine. They can raise your blood pressure and heart rate very high. They are NOT soft drinks (although they are marketed as one).
Personally - I wouldn't recommend ANYONE under 15 years old to drink it - but of course you drank alcohol so you should old enough.People have been know to be so hyped up on it that they do crazy things and lose control (One case I know of a young man drank more than 5 of these in one hit and totally lost control of his senses - took a car and drove at high speed ended up crashing into a wall - killed. Not making this up - it actually happened)
Your brain just can't handle that much caffeine. So careful of how much you drink per day.Long term affect is possible kidney damage, heart failure, brain damage.
Like anything else - all things in moderation. I'd hate to see you in a hospital.
Cheers

QUESTION:
what are the side effects of energy drinks?
and which energy drink product is safe for health?-
ANSWER:
well energy drinks are of course full of vitamin b,taurine, and cafine. those are the ones that effects you the most. too much vitamin b in a diet is unhealthy as it slows down the ability to absorb other things. Taurine is found naturally in our bodies and in some foods, such as seafood and meat. It is believed to play a role in muscle contraction and may detoxify and cleanse the body of harmful substances, though there are no definitive scientific studies confirming this, and cafine increases heart rate and blood pressure, and can cause dehydration and prevent sleep.

QUESTION:
What are the long-term side effects of energy drinks?
My husband was drinking energy drinks like CRAZY for about 6 months,. He started off with 1 a day for about a month, then 2 for about 1 month, and then 2 AND 2 five hour energy shots a day. He stopped about 2 weeks ago because he started getting pains in his liver. Could all those energy drinks have caused it? I tried to make him stop drinking so many, but he wouldn't listen. What are some side effects that energy drinks cause? How long do they usually last and what can he do to get rid of them?-
ANSWER:
Energy drinks are all-around bad for him. It messes with the body (i.e. liver, heart issues). Not to mention it makes the body USE more energy. To gain energy you have to lose energy, and this is what the energy drinks do. It's like a chemical balance, you lose some energy with all the chemicals that go in the body, but those same chemicals end up GIVING the body energy (albeit for a short period of time)

Are there any schools that are informing students about the side effects of energy drinks? If so what sites?-

i don't think that many schools are talking about the side effects of energy drinks. i think it depends on the grade level of school. but you can have a meeting with school staffs and faculty to discuss your concern about energy drinks. some schools are not that concern, because they think and believe that kids would know the consequence of drinking too much energy drinks. but if parents get together to express their concern then maybe the schools will explain the risk of drinking energy drinks.

What are the Side-effects of Energy Drinks ?
Non-Alcoholic ones
stuff like Red-bull or Hype-

Increased heart rate, heart palpitations, feelings of anxiety, restlessness, insomnia and I recently read that drinking just one red bull thickens the blood so much that it's similiar to someone who has heart disease. Energy drinks are high in caffeine, which can make you feel jittery (especially on an empty stomach). It also increases your heart rate and affects your nervous system, making you feel shaky. QUESTION:
Would are the side effects of drinking an energy drink every day?
Im not doing this. Im just curious
like rockstar, monster, nos, etc....-
ANSWER:
.Well if you drink an energy drink a day there won't be any side effects. One drink a day is well within moderation and won't have any adverse effects. The only catch is that Monster and Rockstar and many others are actually 2 or 3 drinks in a can. Only the small cans like the original Red Bull or better yet XS Energy are single servings. All of the makers recommend against having more than two in a day.All problems with energy drinks can be narrowed down to over use or being dehydrated. However that is not what you will hear from the ignorant masses.
Yes, most energy drinks do have a lot of sugar and caffeine as well as other stimulants. However, sodas have as much if not more sugars. Coffee has more caffeine. So energy drinks are NOT any worse then those. However, with all of the combined stimulants in them more than 2 is simply much more than people need in a day.
The way they should work is that you get the initial rush from the sugars. Before that wears off and you have a sugar crash the caffeine and other stimulants should take over. However caffeine takes more water to process than the energy drink provides so it dehydrates us. When we are dehydrated we feel tired and caffeine no longer helps energize us. So if we don't drink 2 glasses of water with each serving then we feel tired when the sugar rush wears off. That is the big crash of energy drinks. If you are hydrated you will not notice the crash and should be energized for 4 - 6 hours.

I take a multi-vitamin and I really dont like drinking coffee too much during the summertime. I've decided to try out energy drinks to see if they will have the same effect. Any suggestions??-

Well there is a new healthy energy drink out there called FRS. It has less caffeine, no guarana and less sugar than most other energy drinks. The company puts healthier ingredients in it, vitamins and antioxidants. I drink it about 3 times a week. Its great when I'm tired and need an extra boost and best of all I don't crash afterwards like I do when I drink Monsters.I found an article about FRS that is pretty good if you'd like more information at http://www.voernix.com/2008/07/frs.html I think they also have a free trial there.

QUESTION:
monster energy drinks, question about side effects?
i drank a full monster for the first time during school on thursday, and it 24 oz. i drank it really fast cuz it was good, and i was shaking like crazy.so i went to my art class and it was like, 30 minutes after i drank it and i was shaking so bad that i couldnt draw. i sit at this table with a bunch of guys and i know that they do some drugs and they drink, and one of them said that drinking that much that fast wasn't good for me, so he told me to drink some water.
he gave me his water bottle, which only had a few sips taken out of it, and i drank it in like one chug. after that i started to get really dizzy and i almost passed out. i coulld feel my face shaking and loud noises really bothered me.
the guy who gave me the water asked me to refill it so i stood up and my legs felt like jello and i couldn't walk in a straight line because everything was spinning. all the guys were like laughing, not really at me, cuz they're nice to me and i guess you'd say they're my friends, but they thought it was funny.
when class was over, i was gonna push open the door because it was closing but i missed it so i like, walked into it.
so can someone tell me if these were effects of monster or did the guy have something in his drink? it looked like normal water to me and it was clear, but people are telling me that monster doesn't do that to u
and if it makes a difference, im a 15 year old girl and i weigh like 130

QUESTION:
What are some negative health effects of Red Bull or other energy drinks?
What are some negative health effects of binge drinking Red Bull while a physical activity. Suppose a person goes snowboarding for a weekend and drinks about 5 a day. What are some short term and long term side effects of the drink. Are there any health effects concerning fertility in a man.?-
ANSWER:
A common concern regarding the beverage is its supposedly high caffeine level. Proponents of the beverage counter critics by stating that a serving has roughly the same amount of caffeine as that found in a cup of coffee. In 2007, a study conducted by American researchers concluded that Red Bull, along with other popular energy drinks, could boost both blood pressure and heart rates, prompting them to warn those with heart disease to avoid the drinks due to the possibility it could reduce the effectiveness of their medications. The increases, however, did not cause dangerous levels in healthy people. The various measures of heart rate all rose between 5-10 percent during the 1 week trial. Key similarities between Red Bull and the other energy drinks named make the study relevant to the ongoing discussion of Red Bull.

QUESTION:
Could these be side effects of an energy drink?
I drank an enegry drink about 7 or 8 hours ago. It was a monster. Idk what kind. It wass orange and on the top it said "anti - gravity." But about ever since like 8pm I've had a hot itchy face. I get random chills and shake a lot. And my stomach hurts on and off. Could this be from the energy drink? Cause I am only 4'9"..
Since I'm so small I didn't know if that could do something with it..-
ANSWER:
Well, there are a lot of things that could come into play here. What do you weigh? Do you drink them often?
Have you eaten anything? What did you eat? How much?
Are you hydrated, with any water in your system?
A lot of things will effect how an energy drink is on your body. I don't know about the itchy face, but it sounds like you have a little too much caffeine in your system and not enough food substance. It used to happen to me a lot, but I used to drink 4-5 monsters a day and I only ate every 3 days. I do NOT advise it! Just try to eat a little something, drink so water, and lay down.

QUESTION:
Dangerous effects of energy drinks?
What are the dangerous effects of energy drinks like Redbull SUGAR FREE? I've heard about effects like heart failure due to drinking too many energy drinks. Is it okay for me, a 16 year-old, to drink one can of Redbull Sugar Free a day? That's because I feel really, really tired and sleepy after school. Will developing this habit take a toll on my health? Like creating any side effects? How much do I need to drink to develop side effects? (asking out of curiosity)-
ANSWER:
I suggest that you don't go that route, especially because you are very young. At 16 you do not want to experiment with that type of behavior. Not only are energy drinks bad for your health, they can also be very addicting. If you start using these energy drinks you will find yourself having difficulty getting through an ordinary day without one. At that point you probably will have already done a lot of damage to your body. There are better ways to get that boost of energy, and they can include very simple things like eating right. It sounds like you aren't getting enough fruit and vegetables in your diet.

I drink energy drinks all the time, it gives me an extra boost during long days. I'm very athletic, and very fit, so my body handles them differently than yours.
The long term side effects are not known at this time about them, but there are many different explanations from non-experts(as you read in other answers).
I would advise only drinking a small portion of one. Your not used to the boost it gives, so start off slow.

QUESTION:
Do Monster energy drinks have any long term negative effects if i only drink them 2-3 times per month?
I drink Monster energy drinks on "special occasions" about two or three times per month. I DON'T drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or pot, or take any prescription drugs, so there isn't the risk of combining them with any of those. Also, I'm a 14 year old, 115 lb girl if that changes anything. I basically want to know if I continue this pattern for, say, 10 years, will there be any long term negative side effects when I get older?-
ANSWER:
I’m just scratching the surface with what I have written here so let me give you some food for thought. When you are considering consuming energy drinks:•Make a mental note that while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is allowing companies to sell and market their energy drink products, there is still very little research that has been done on them. I suspect the FDA allows them to be added simply because they do not pose any immediate danger to energy drink consumers.
•The long-term effects of energy drink ingredients, if any, are still not known meaning that drinking a lot of these drinks on a consistent basis may or may not harm you in ways that have yet to be researched.
•Energy drink labels are frequently misleading or at least they are so ambiguous that when you buy them you simply believe what you want to believe. Remember that in most cases, the claims being made have not been proven.
•It remains unknown as to whether any medical conditions and related prescription medication will interact with energy drinks. If you try an energy drink and react poorly to it, consult a physician.

QUESTION:
What are the side effects of the energy drink Monster?-
ANSWER:
The effects don't bother everybody as we are all different. If you are accustomed to high amounts of sugar and caffeine then you won't notice it as much. Basically for those that do get affected they might get hyper, jittery, and their mind might race. Plus it is actually 2 servings in the small can and 3 in the larger one.Basically if you are going to drink a Monster then you either need to really need the energy or drink only half, at most, at a time.

QUESTION:
What are the side effects of drink a Max 5 Hour Energy Drink? Read On...?
I'm a 14 year old girl at school I drank a Max 5 Hour Energy Drink for the first time and it made me really pumped up and my blood was pumping and I had an amazing adrenaline rush than my body started getting sore all over and my arm was throbbing. It is the next day and my arm feels like I banged into a store wall. Please tell me what's going on!
-
ANSWER:
It's simple and scientific. When your body is under the effect of adrenaline, a lot of ATP is used up so that respiration doesn't have to occur. However, you also don't breathe enough to cope with the rate of respiration and your body started undergoing anaerobic respiration and producing lactic acid. Your arm will hurt for about 3 days and then you'll forget about it. Remember, energy drinks are fun but they can be dangerous.

Side effects of Monster Energy Drink or pregnancy symptoms..?
It's weird. Last time I got my period was around the end of June. I had unprotected sex for one whole month (july), and I was expecting my period this past week. The problem is that I drink 2 or sometimes 3 monsters a day to keep myself awake at work or school. Now I am confused. The energy drinks would keep me awake all the time, and I wouldn't get hungry either; now, I feel sleepy almost all day long, and I still get hungry even after I drink the Monster energy drinks. I've had this habit for about a year now, and this is the first time (last 2 weeks) that those energy drinks are not working for me anymore. you REALLY need to kick the habit of energy drinks. seriously, immediately. its totally unhealthy. it kicks up your heart rate and could be fatal or give you diseases. also, the carbonation messed your teeth up. the chemicals in monster are totally unhealthy. the first alternative i suggest is water. many people think its so plain and stuff, but really, its the best there is for you and its calorie free and totally natural and keeps you hydrated. second is smoothies. main smoothie shops such as robeks and jamba juice offer free boosts, get an energy boost! and they are full of nutrients and very healthy. its possible that the man you are sleeping with could have a low sperm count or be sterile. and some people just can't procreate together. thats why they created test tube babies, they take eggs out of you, and sperm out of him, and then put them together and whichever egg starts growing the implant into you and then you have a baby!! so first, kick the monster habit. second, get checked out at the doctor. a few simple blood tests could find out the reason why you are reacting badly to the monsters. third, if theres nothing wrong with you and your blood, have your man get checked out to see if there is anything wrong with him and his sperm. anyways, best of luck to you! remember, monsters do not benifit your body at all, they just make you hyper unnaturally- not good.
best of luck!!

QUESTION:
Does the 5 hour energy drink have any negative side effects?
I tried some of that 5 hour energy drink and it works great for me. I'm thinking of just buying a case. My antidepressant usually makes me very tired so the drink puts me back on par with everyone else around me.Would taking it like 2-3 times a week be too much/dangerous?
Does using it often create any negative side effects?

ANSWER:
they are high in niacin - which you can get a niacin flush/fever after drinking an entire bottle. I recommend not an entire bottle at one time only in parts - I'm not too sure about the side effects of a hole bunch you may want to google the individual ingredients and what would happen if you "overdosed" on it.

QUESTION:
Side effects from black mamba energy drink or caffeine withdrawls?
My 16 year old daughter drank a black mamba energy drink on Friday night. She experienced immediate hyperness. Obviously, she wasn't able to sleep very much that night. The next morning, she experienced a "freak out" session where she was very antzy and paranoid. Since then, she has had one episode of accelerated heart rate - around 120. She is also shaky at times as well as experiencing breast pain - commonly associated with too much caffeine.Obviously, I do not approve of the consumption of energy drinks but like many things teens do - this was done away from the home. I have taken her off all caffeine since last friday and I think she may be experiencing caffeine withdrawls.
I am scheduling her for a doctors appointment for the beginning of next week. In the meantime, I was wondering if this sounded consistent with caffeine withdrawals or the side effects of the black mamba drink?
Any advice would be helpful.

ANSWER:
Energy drinks caused the hyperness and possibly the antziness the next day due to lack of sleep, but the high dosage of cafeine and sugar although not good for her would not continue to cause the same thing unless shes still drinking them
remember cafeine is a drug and can be addictive
